Disappointing & we will never return to the Aspen Lounge also known as Rowans at the Coppid Beech Hotel. Bracknell
Aspen Lounge also known as Rowans at The Coppid Beech Hotel, Bracknell.
**Total Disappointment avoid this Restaurant**
The table was booked weeks in advance for the Saturday 14th February 2026 (St Valentines Day) 7.15pm.
And noting that the Aspen Lounge / Rowans, make it very clear on their automated booking system that you must pay a £20 non-refundable table booking deposit, which is fine. And your table is only for 90-minutes, which for us is not a problem. But for the staff & the manager at the Aspen Lounge / Rowans at the Coppid Beech Hotel this is clearly not enough time to serve a table of two people in a half empty restaurant.
To set the scene.
We got there at 7.10pm (table booked for 7.15pm) & the restaurant was less than half full, we were shown to our table at that time. Noting that we noticed that there was no gentle background music playing softly.
Then we waited & waited until 7.35pm before the manager came over to ask us, if we would like to order our food. At which point we said that we had not even been asked, if we would like a drink. And so, at that point we ordered our first drinks & our food (no starter, just main courses).
The manager did not apologise for the fact that we had already waited over 25 minutes before any member of staff had come to our table to ask us, if we would like a drink, let alone ask us what food we would like to order.
Noting that by now the restaurant was just over half full.
The food turned up within 10 minutes, as did the drinks. The time by then was almost 7.50pm. And noting by that time it was over 35 minutes to get our first drink.
The main courses were reasonably tasty, nothing special.
Then at 8.10pm the waitress came over to take our plates away, & asked us if we would like the dessert menu. And we said, can we have 10 minutes before we looked at the desserts, to let our dinner digest first.
Also at that point we ordered another drink each, which turned up within 5 minutes.
After that, no other member of staff came to our table until 9.20pm, so from around 8.20pm until 9.20pm not one member of staff bothered to come to our table to see if we wanted any desserts or another drink or even the bill. And when they did come to our table at 9.20pm, they asked if we would like a dessert. When clearly it was obvious if they had taken any interest, that we didn’t even have the dessert menu on our table to choose something.
At which point I went to the lady at the till to pay our bill, & as I was paying our bill at that till, another customer came up to that lady at the till & said “can someone find out where their main courses were, as they had waited over an hour”.
To summarise.
The restaurant was only half full, it was a Saturday evening, & it was also St Valentines Day. So, it was not as if it was the quieter middle of the week where less staff were on duty.
The evening was ruined by the painfully slow service & the total lack of interest by the staff & manager.
As a restaurant the Aspen Lounge also known as Rowans, was a huge disappointment & it is not a restaurant that I would recommend to anyone.
But if you want to know how NOT to run a restaurant, lose customers & potential future returning customers revenue. And if you don’t want any ambience in a restaurant & or you’re a fan of the 1970’s TV show “Fawlty Towers”. And you also want to experience painfully slow service by disinterested staff & manager, that all seem to have a total lack of interest in doing their job. To the point of not even noticing that you don’t even have a dessert menu on your table to order a dessert from. Let alone a drink glass or bottle on your table 25-minutes after you first came into the restaurant. Then the Aspen Lounge / Rowans at the Coppid Beech Hotel in Bracknell is the place for you.
To any potential customers reading this & thinking where to go for a meal & or St Valentines day/evening.
Do yourself a huge favour & instead go to the Royal Foresters, Ascot. It is much better. We went there last year for St Valentines Day evening meal, the tables we lovingly decorated in rose petals & there was live music playing & they also had a lady playing the Harp. The whole evening was superior in every way. Save yourself the disappointment, & go to the Royal Foresters in Ascot, instead.
