Left my wife stranded in Dubai with no support

Thanks Cover for You for leaving my wife stranded in Dubai. She was super pleased to hear that your small print states she is now in a war zone with no insurance to extend her hotel stays or fund alternative flights back home.
My wife has been frighted, huddled down in the hotel basement at times with missiles being intercepted overhead.

You website states “ We truly believe you will find a product that ensures that you feel safe and secure while abroad so you can focus on making memories”. Not quite the reality when it comes to doing the right thing by your customers.

Thank you for your review.

We are very sorry to hear about the distressing situation your wife is experiencing. Being caught abroad during conflict is understandably worrying, and we truly empathize with how difficult this must be for both you and your wife.

War and acts of conflict are classified under our policy terms as excluded events. This means we are unable to provide cover for claims arising directly from the outbreak of war, including evacuation, alternative travel arrangements, or associated disruption costs.

However, in situations like this, the tour operator and the airline have primary responsibility for assisting your wife.

Under the Package Travel and Linked Travel Arrangements Regulations 2018, if you booked a package holiday, the tour operator is responsible for:
- Providing assistance while you are in difficulty
- Arranging alternative travel where possible
- Offering refunds or suitable alternatives if services cannot be provided
The airline also has obligations to support passengers whose flights are canceled or disrupted.

The policy automatically extends at no cost if your wife takes the first available flight offered by her airline or the UK government. If she is still abroad we strongly recommend that she:

- Contacts her tour operator immediately and request urgent assistance
- Speak directly with her airline regarding rebooking or evacuation options
- Follow the advice issued by your embassy or foreign office
- Register with your embassy if not done so already

If you or your wife have any questions, please contact our Support Team who will be more than happy to assist you.

Brilliant service

I fractured my fingers after falling over in Lanzarote. I called the helpline and they explained what I needed to do to get treatment and gave me hospital in area. I paid for treatment and on my return sent documents to Coverforyou. I called the following day to make sure they had been received. Jess took my call and she was amazing, stayed on the phone while I resent and completed my claim. Refund should come through in 5-10 days. Will definitely use this company again. Big thank you to Jess for all her help.

Nightmare claims process if Axa services your claim.

While CoverForYou have an excellent rating on Trustpilot, if you have to make a claim you may find your service provided by Axa Travel Insurance, (2.1 stars).
While I was seriously ill abroad, trying to deal with Axa's claim process was very difficult.
On the telephone, the Axa representative often blamed another department for delays which I obviously didn't care about.
Read Axa's reviews before taking up CoverForYou insurance.

Just to add that it's not possible to log in to the CoverForYou website directly. Access is via an annoying email link process. Should be changed.

Port cover but look at the policy wording!!

We missed two ports. The first due to a fellow passenger being ill so we couldn't make the port. The second was due to a world leader conference occurring at the port and so the port was closed.
They won't settle my claim as it says in the policy wording that they only accept weather conditions or timetable issues and no alternative port is offered.
I assumed missed ports covered missing ports scheduled but more fool me.
Check their policy wording thoroughly if buying.
Well, many thanks for your reply and I will certainly check policy wording in the future. I will not be using your company in the future or any companies you are underwritten by including AXA.

Thank you for your review.

Kindly note that not all perils are covered under insurance policies, and cover depends on each insurer's risk appetite. Our policies only cover missed ports due to weather conditions or timetable restrictions and no alternative port is offered, this information is stated on the Policy Wording document, which is available to download during the quote process, and access to it is emailed to the registered email address immediately after purchasing a policy.

We also offer a 14-day cooling-off period, so our clients can cancel the policy if it doesn't meet their needs and receive a full refund of the premium paid.

The reasons you provided for the missed ports do not fall under the above mentioned cover and, regrettably, your claim has been declined.

If you have any questions, please let us know.

Do not expect back what you're out of pocket.

We had to stay an extra 4 nights in Geneva after losing my daughter's passport whilst skiing. I had to change our flight home, book 4 nights hotel and travel by train to/from the British Embassy in Bern from Geneva.
I submitted all my paperwork and receipts for all these extra expenses.
All I was reimbursed for was the Emergency Travel Document(ETD). This left us over £1000 out of pocket.

After speaking/emailing them requesting why I was not being reimbursed for any of the travel and hotel etc, they just repeated that all I was getting was the ETD paid.

Not impressed with the service and will not be renewing once it expires.
Absolutely shocking treatment by a company we should be relying on when we need them most.

I've used this company for years and had a brilliant time, until now. Whatever has been integrated with AXA simply doesn't function. My husband needed a doctor, their system wouldn't work and I was told it could take days to fix. I now need to speak to a doctor, and yet again, the system will not allow me to make a request. Absolutely awful.

Thank you for your review.

We are sorry that you are experiencing technical issues. However, we note that your policy covers subject to the policy terms and conditions, medical emergencies whilst travelling abroad, as such, if you are unable to reach the DoctorPlease service, you can seek a local doctor/hospital and claim against the policy once you return back to the UK, alternatively, please contact the Emergency Medical Assistance at: +44 330 123 2370 and they will assist you accordingly.

Furthermore, we note that our policies cover the costs of telephone calls to and from the Emergency Medical Assistance Service notifying and dealing with the problem for which you are able to provide evidence.

If you have any questions, please let us know.

Will not use ever again.

Agree with all the other reviews. Very bad experience and wish I had checked reviews in more detail before going with this provider.

Just another company that will happily take your money for a "valid policy" but refuses to pay anything when you actually put a claim in. All evidence provided, circumstances completely out of my hand and still they refuse to help. Ridiculous company, would not recommend.

Avoid this company, they are awful.
My wife had a fall in Thailand and tore her ankle ligaments. After the initial online video consultation they were absolutely appalling and left us to completely fend for ourselves. We phoned them, e-mailed them and did online chats to request help in arranging hospital assistance, but go no help whatsoever. We had to arrange a hospital visit and subsequent treatment ourselves.
We are still in Thailand, but rest assured Cover for you will be hearing at lot more from us when we return to the UK.

We're sorry to hear you've had a bad experience trying to claim. You've left this review anonymously and havn't responded to requests to verify your details so we can't investigate further.

Based on the limited information you've provided the only advice we can give you at this time is that per the information we provide at the point of purchase there are two services we provide:

Teledoctor service : This is for minor illness only and allows you to speak to a GP and where required get a local prescription.

24x7 Emergency Assistance line : This service is there to assist you in the case of a more major illness, where you need to attend hospital.

It sounds from your review like you've tried to use the teledoctor service instead of the emergency assistance line for a medical emergency. If you still need assistance please contact the assistance line, or if you already have and something has gone wrong, please contact us with your details so we can investigate for you.

Fantastic Travel Insurance

We've been with CoverForYou for over 3 years now on a multi-trip plan, and cannot recommend it highly enough. Thankfully, we've only ever had to claim on it once due to cancelled flights writing off our entire trip, however CoverForYou were brilliant. Simple online chat to get the claim started, then filled out the rest in my own time. Everything was reviewed and settled without any hassle. Needed to add cover for Mexico to our plan earlier in the year and was able to do this via the online portal for only £20 in total. Cannot recommend highly enough!

Poor customer care

Zero help or advice from first call.
Was initially paid 1.72% of my claim for a medical bill, 98.28% being rejected for cancellation of ongoing holiday and a new flight home plus accommodation.
Poor customer service. Poor communication. Awarded compensation for poor case management.
Took 13 months to achieve payment of a claim and having to go through ombudsman. If they’d read the paperwork I sent or contacted me there wouldn’t have been a problem. Extremely stressful!

We have contacted the claims handlers appointed by your policy insurer, who informed us that you have submitted your claim on 21/10/2024 which was partially settled on 14/11/2024, as such within a reasonable timeframe. As you were not happy with the claim outcome you have submitted a complaint and the Final Response Letter was issued on 23/01/2025, which again meets the 8 weeks FCA requirement to review a complaint. The delays experienced were due to the review from the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS), who provided the claim complaint outcome on 30/09/2025, and the final claim settlement was made on 01/10/2025, within 2 days of receiving the FOS correspondence.

We apologise on the claims handlers behalf, for any inconvenience this issue may have caused.

my 6th annual policy with you

I’ve now just taken out my 6th annual policy with you guys. Every year I take many trips and your services have always been amazing. I’ve had a phone stolen and a hospital bill over the years and you compensated me with both issues and made the stressful process very simple!

I have upgraded my policy today and spoke to Diexter and he helped me run through everything with great detail to make sure my injuries were accounted for and I was set up ready for my next trip!

Great customer service, great cover! Thanks so much

would give zero if I could

would give zero if I could. Garbage company - avoid at all costs.

Our outbound flight was cancelled meaning a 4 day trip could not be taken. When I claimed for the lost hotel expenses the answer was “oh, that’s not covered on your policy”.

What is the point of travel insurance that doesn’t cover trip cancellation as STANDARD.

So after leaving this review previously, and after initially being threatened by CFY for leaving a negative review, they subsequently and magically discovered that my claim had been incorrectly rejected and they have now paid out!! A more professional company would have dealt with this issue correctly in the first place and would have retained my custom.

Thank you for your review.

We’re glad to hear we’ve been able to assist with your claim.

When you first left your review we clarified that all our policies include cancellation cover (covering costs when you fully cancel your trip) as standard and that we also offer trip disruption cover (covering costs you incur when you continue travelling after disruption) which you hadn’t included on your policy.

As you’d noted that your claim related to cancellation, we asked the insurer to have another look at your claim, in case they had made a mistake in the initial review. From their review it appears they had, and we apologise on their behalf for the mistake. We’re glad we were able to intervene to have them put this right for you.

We are confused by your claim that we ‘threatened’ you, the only reason I can think that you feel this way is that Trustpilot removed your initial review as it included swear words, which is against their terms.

Disappointed — excess wrongly applied despite £0 excess policy

I’m disappointed with the handling of my claim by CoverForYou / AXA Assistance. My policy clearly includes the Excess Waiver, showing £0 excess, yet an excess was still applied to my medical claim.

I’ve had to spend unnecessary time disputing something that should have been straightforward. I hope the company reviews its processes to ensure customers aren’t made to challenge clear policy terms.

I’ll update this review if the issue is resolved fairly, but at this stage, the service has been frustrating and below expectations.

Just got back from Crete and on the first day my daughter burst her chin open

Just got back from Crete and on the first day my daughter fell on a water slide and burst her chin open. She went to hospital for stitches and as we were there for 2 weeks she also had to get the removed over there. As soon as I got back to the hotel I phoned to make a claim and the man who helped me make the claim was informative and helpful and made sure I got all the details and I needed for the hospital and I got all the details they needed so there was no hassle and gave me there email incase any miscommunication between myself and the hospital. Thankfully everything went smooth and by the next day everything was sorted and all I had to pay was the excess of the policy. Would highly recommend for travel insurance

If you want insurance just to feel good…

If you want travel insurance just to feel good then great, if you want decent cover, LOOK ELSEWHERE!

I expected more from a policy underwritten by AXA!

Accommodation, transport and new flight costs to get home due to STOLEN passport NOT covered in their GOLD annual policy. The passport itself is covered but barely covers the cost of the ETD required to return to the UK, doesn't come near to getting a new passport as well!

If you're expecting your belongings to be covered then make sure you have a receipt for everything you're taking with you, because they ONLY pay out if you can show them the RECEIPTS!! A bit of a problem if some of your items were presents or if you bought your clothes any longer than a week before departure and the receipt is still lurking in the bag! As a consequence they assessed my claim at 1/4 of the total value of the items that were stolen. On, and Air pods are classed as gadgets so you need to take extra cover for these!

Customer service is friendly on the phone but communication by email is appalling as it takes at least a week to get a response.

Lesson.., read the entire policy wording before taking out the cover because BASIC things you think would be covered, AREN'T. I will never use this company again!!

We are sorry you had to claim against your policy. As you mentioned, your policy did not have cover for certain perils, which in most cases, would have been covered if you had chosen to add the additional Travel Disruption cover. We note that the Policy Wording document clearly mentions that gadgets are not covered under the Personal Belongings section, and receipts are required to substantiate claims related to personal belongings. Furthermore, the Policy Wording document was available to download during the quote process, and immediately after purchasing the policy from your Customer Zone. We also provide a 14 days cooling-off period as from the date of purchase, so our clients can cancel the policy with a full refund if they find that the policies do not meet their needs after reading the policy terms and conditions.

Upon checking your records, we note that you have Gadget cover included as standard under your policy, in case you would like to claim for your Air pods you can submit your claim online at: theoxfordclaimscompany.co.uk/make-a-claim

Should you have any questions, please let us know.

I placed a claim with Cover for You in February and m still waiting for resolution

I placed a claim with Cover for You following a ski accident in late February to recover some medical costs and check if I could get back some money for unused ski pass.

I had to wait over 45 minutes on the emergency hotline to get through to someone with a injured shoulder which was not great. I then submitted the CAS form. I heard nothing from AXA who are processing the claim despite a number of follow up emails asking for an update.

I raised a complaint on the 11th of April and was paid some compensation in June and was asked for some additional information by AXA.

It's now the 22nd of August and my claim from February has still not been settled and I've continued to receive no feedback. Very disappointing as I assumed with a 5 star rating I would get a good service.

Deceptive renewal practices - took payment 7 days early

Watch out! CoverForYou will take travel insurance renewal payment *7 full days ahead* of your renewal date.
Allegedly this is to ensure you're covered. Somehow every single other insurance provider manages to provide uninterrupted cover whilst taking payment on the day of the renewal - so I don't think this is acceptable justification.
This is clearly to prevent you shopping around.
I sat down to look at my travel insurance policy on the Sunday before the renewal date, only to find £265 had already been deducted from my card.
Of course, no customer services team was available, so I had to spend 20 minutes finding the cancellation button online.
Apparently a refund will be made - but this gives me another job to do to check it arrives and in the meantime, I'm out of pocket.
What's more, I found an equivalent insurance policy with Admiral for only £80!! So the renewal price was a complete rip off.
Given this underhand approach to taking a sky high payment 7 days ahead of time, I will never take an insurance policy with CoverForYou again.

Thank you for your review.

Like many travel insurers we take payment for your renewal 7 days prior to expiry to ensure that you are covered if you are travelling over the date you renew, if your policy expired while abroad you'd be left uninsured.

We make this completely clear at the point you purchase your policy and give you the option to opt out of auto renewal at the point of purchase or at any point during your period of insurance.

We further give you a reminder your renewal is upcoming 14 days before we charge your card which is clear the date we'll charge your card, along with an SMS if you have a mobile number on file.

We can't comment on the pricing you've quoted as you left your review on an anonymous basis but our renewals always include at least a 15% discount on the price we'd charge for a new policy. As our prices are generally competative in the market, if you've received a significantly lower price it's likely that the policy is not like for like (less comprehsnive, lower area of cover etc).

I would also note that in your policy welcome e-mail there is a one click button to the customer zone and 'Cancel my policy' is one of the first few buttons on the page.

Dreadful experience around cruise cover…

Dreadful experience around cruise cover and a missed port. 1/8 of what other insurers pay. Customer service were very cold and blunt when I questioned it.
Terms not clear - we believed the £25 missed port to be an excess fee not a settlement fee. All other insurers pay £150-£200, greatly disappointing.
Will not use this insurer again.

Our policies provide a range of limits depending on the cover level you choose, to allow customers to choose which cover best suits their needs. This is clearly stated in our wording and on our website, for example our direct policies cover:

Silver: £25 per missed port up to £125 total
Gold: £50 per missed port up to £250 total
Platinum: £100 per missed port up to £500 total

As you'd selected our entry level cover, the limit was lower than in the higher cover levels. I would note that many other providers will be showing the overall limit as a headline benefit and will have inner, per day limits as we do.
