Pretty rubbish really. Ok, I get that it will take a while to establish a full backup. But then for no obvious reason the whole backup disappears!!

A scam

A scam. Buyer beware. I paid for Small Business for 12.5 years. Then for the first time I tried to restore my data and it would not work via web, via Mac or via Windows or Linux.

They delayed support responses. Finally they set up a call with support, and support realized we couldn't do anything because now my account was past due for that month.

I told them I want my data before paying for more and they refused. Also, their terms say the only recourse is a 10% refund if you can prove their service was down, but you can't so you won't even get that.

I lost 10 years of data, steer clear of this awful company.

All data deleted

I had 4.7TB of data stored backed-up via CrashPlan. But then, without notifying me, they deleted all the data with no possibility for recovery. So, in fact you pay money to them for a service they cannot delivery.

Avoid this company

It's basically scam. I temporarily installed Crashplan on Windows machine as I had to restore my data (backed up by first device that is Linux headless machine). It didn't work out, support didn't help and later they charged me for 2 devices (second device had no backup). They refused to refund.

Poor support

The worst part about Crashplan is they have no way to contact them via telephone. Support is handled through a ticketing process and they are slow to respond. I closed an account in 2023 and they continue to bill every month for it.

Beware Of Crashplan

Crashplan has chat support but never anyone monitoring it.

The email support is slow and not very easy to use and if you can't log in you cannot even raise a ticket.

At the moment I am getting warning emails that I have not backed up when I try to restart a backup it says " Service Currently Unavailable".

They Have introduced an Authenticator System which gives you three codes but none work.

It used to be a good service but has steadily gone downhill I would like to change but to backup 2+ terabytes would take days.

Also when you try to log in sometimes it routes to something called Zendesk.

If things change I will let you know but I am not counting on it

Impossible to figure out and nonexistent customer support

I have been losing money to them month over month. There interface has always been confusing and hard to use. Also very slow. I have tried to get a hold of customer support with zero luck. I can never seem to get through to a real person let alone a helpful robot. I have been trying to cancel for sometime. It lets me update my password, but I don't know if my username is wrong or what. It requires Google authentication now. I have been trying to use that, but with no luck. I only get voicemail boxes with no response when I try to get through. I have wasted so much money. I just want to cancel but can't figure out how to do so.

It's true - best to avoid

It's true, do NOT rely on them to keep your data. They trashed years of historical backups and ignored complaints. They are focused on security now, that is a joke! Don't do it! It's also dead slow now, after they moved data centres backup is incredibly slow, I have it running 50 times slower than COMET!

I SHOULD OF SUED!

I was with Crashplan for over 10yrs with no issue with backing up. That all changed when I wanted to restore my files after a HDD crash. I contacted Crashplan just be told that "It's an issue with the app". That was it. No solution to fix the problem. Then I got send an email asking if my issue had been resolved? WHERE'S MY DATA? I should of sued you. Your a joke!

Horrible Tech Support

When you invest in an online backup service, good tech support is going to be a must. If you have a situation involving lost or corrupted data, a support agent you can count on will be crucial. The company drops the ball in that very important department. There are many good backup companies out there and CrashPlan is one to stay away from. "March" in tech support is a prime example of this.

This is a really clunky service that…

This is a really clunky service that makes a very simple task very difficult. They've never lost my data and I don't have a problem with the rates, but accessing your data remotely is next to impossible. They make you jump through this outdated QR code 2FA that never works seamlessly. EVERY SINGLE TIME I need to access my data from anywhere other than my home desktop, I have to jump through hoops including: start a chat where it's then taken to emails back and forth in order to start a new QR code authentication process. Oh--then I have to download the Google Authenticator onto my new browser--yay, who doesn't love a new Google tracking thing, right?--then follow the 17 steps to get the code working. And there's no option to turn off 2FA. There have to be better options out there...

Crashplan started as a great service, 12 years ago

Crashplan started as a great service, and then adopted a policy of:

1. deleting users' data with little or no notice
2. making it very difficult to restore data
3. increasing prices from $3/month to $40/month
4. changing their policies after their customers had invested thousands of $$ and years of backups

This is honestly behavior that should get them sued by the FTC. It's the kind of thing a criminal organization would do.

Biggest scam product I have ever come across

This is probably the biggest scam / most terrible product I have used in my entire 36 years of existence.

I've been a customer since 2014, so paid around $1000 by now to keep my data stored... and guess what... I'VE SPENT THE LAST TWO YEARS TRYING TO RESTORE IT, ON AND OFF!

Haven't used this service for two years, but they make it so extremely difficult to actually recover your data, that I keep trying to download it and it always gets stuck or some sort of error happens.

Just been on tech chat with them for about 3 hours now. And we have to start all over again because of some error. Jesus Christ What the EFF!!! This is insane! DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE IT IS UTTERLY POINTLESS... YOU ARE LITERALLY THROWING AWAY YOUR MONEY. BUY AN EXTERNAL HDD AND CONTROL YOUR OWN DATA, OR USE SOME OTHER CLOUD SERVICE

STAY AWAY!!!!!

WARNING!! THEY DELETE YOUR DATA!!

WARNING!!! THEY HAVE NO PROBLEM DELETING ALL YOUR DATA!! Guess what happens if your credit card expires or something else goes wrong with your payment? They send you ONE EMAIL saying there was a problem. If you happen to miss that email, if it gets bounced or accidentally deleted or you miss it for any reason, they don't try at all to do anything further - THEY JUST DELETE ALL YOUR BACKUPS!!! WITHOUT WARNING!! AND THE DESKTOP CLIENT *SAYS NOTHING* about any problem! So you can go for months thinking your data is safely backed up when it has been DELETED LONG AGO!!! DO NOT USE CRASHPLAN, THEY DONT GIVE A DAMN ABOUT THE DATA OF THEIR CUSTOMERS AND HAVE NO PROBLEM AT ALL JUST DELETING IT IF YOU MISS *ONE` EMAIL FOR SOME REASON!!!

Lost backup

AVOID AT ALL COST! Other reviews should say a lot about this company. Mine is no different. After years of storing all valuable pictures and videos of my children when they were small this stupid company decides to close my account and delete everything!

I am a customer since 2014 - almost all data is gone.

I am a customer since 2014. Backing up my data WITH the promise that my data never would not be deleted. However now I noticed that - without properly informing customers - they changed the retention model from indefinite to 90 days. So almost ALL my backup data is gone!! I cannot believe companies do this. Luckily I alway also relied on myself with a NAS. Bottom line I paid more than USD 1000 for a non-existing service. I do not recommend this company.
