Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 47 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. People frequently struggled with unhelpful customer support teams, experiencing exceptionally long hold times, unreturned phone calls, and dismissive attitudes when trying to resolve their critical problems. Consumers additionally faced heavy unexpected maintenance costs, expensive servicing plans, and recurring mechanical faults with their new vehicles shortly after purchase. However, some customers also noted that the vehicles offered a comfortable and pleasant driving experience alongside plenty of useful interior space. A few reviewers additionally mentioned experiencing a completely seamless, professional purchasing process and helpful communication when initially dealing with the dealership.

Service and MOT work without authorisation

Service and MOT. Work completed without authorisation despite being told to wait. Followed by untruths about not being eligible for a retest if the vehicle removed from the garage, this was because the work that they'd done without permission would have been identified. All confirmed by a customer services manager. I complained and heard zero back, followed up, and still heard nothing back after months. Spend your money somewhere else, dishonest company.

We brought a brand new Dacia Duster…

We brought a brand new Dacia Duster plate was 19. It was OK except the electric were working one minute and didn't the next. We kept up with the servicing and then BANG. 2 months out of the warranty we were travelling to a holiday destination and all of a sudden the car cut out and smoke poured out of the engine. We were lucky as we had just pulled into a service station. A few people help us push it to a safe place. We called our brake down service and they were with us within half an hour. There were no warnings on the dashboard, so as far as we were concerned it was OK to drive. Suffice to say, the brake down company had to tow us home. A 2 hour drive back to where we came from. The mechanic said its something to do with the head gasket, it was undriveable. We got towed home and could Dacia fit us in to repair the car for our holiday "NO". SO the only thing we could do was to go to a local garage as see if they could help. They were willing to, but would Dacia sell or even order the part for our car "No" they refused to help the other garage. As we had already paid for our holiday we decided we had to hire a car for a week. After our holiday Dacia Solihull fit us in to look at repairing the car. We drove the car taking 5 - 10 minute breaks because water was pouring out. They looked at the car and said it would need a new engine around £8 > 10,000 was quoted. The car was worth around £13,000. We new our insurance wouldn't cover it and why would we pay for it as there was NO warning that something was up. The sales man said we can scrape it and give you £3000 towards another car, my husband managed an extra £1,000 out of them. So we landed loosing £10,000 and had to find another £12,000 for a new used. I have kicked off asking for compensation. They treated us like muck. The reason why the car was scraped was due to the plastic mounting around the gasket. It melted. So we had a 2nd Dacia 20 plate which is in warranty. But guess what? it's doing it again, except warning lights came on. Could Dacia fit us in, NO not till August. So we landed up going to a garage who helps Dacia out with work but it won't be covered on the warranty, that now means we have no warranty. While this was being repaired we hired a car for a week, later we picked our car up and the first thing I am going to do is to SELL the heap of junk. The mechanic said that Dacia/ renault are crafty because they were told to change the housing from plastic to metal and have they, NO. SO we now know why the car is cheap. AVOID AVOID thats my warning light to everyone considering buying one. This happened October 2023. The calendar doesn't change the date.

Dacia

Dacia, never again.
I bought a brand new Dacia Duster Prestige in April 2019. I wanted to avoid the potential hassle of anything going wrong with a second hand car. I had saved up for this for some time and I felt confident my decision to buy that vehicle from new and stick with the Renault brand was the right one. I had owned a Grand Scenic for 11 years, done 110,000 miles with it with no issue whatsoever. Maintained regularly, I was extremely satisfied with the performance of that vehicle.
Unfortunately, it turned out to be a big mistake. Just over a year later, one of the down/up select buttons on the steering wheel started malfunctioning. As the vehicle was under warranty I took it to the dealership I had purchased it from and the outcome was “Carried out fault finding as per Renault’s guidance and advised the rotary switch to be replaced”.
Within 4 months following the above, the near side rear door window motor failed. This was also replaced under warranty. At that point, I logged a complaint with Dacia customer services who ‘generously’ offered me a £100 voucher to be used towards my next service at a Dacia dealership. I rejected this and demanded an extra year warranty instead which they agreed to. Thank god for that! 2022, the steering wheel switch issue re-appeared. I took my vehicle back to a dealership for a second repair and they ended up replacing the entire steering wheel as (I was then told by the dealership) it turned out to be a known issue!
Earlier this year, the engine warning light (amber) came on 250 miles away from home with the message ‘Check anti-pollution system’. Not knowing what to do, I called 2 different Dacia dealerships within the area (Leeds) but neither had any availability for approximately 10 days. I explained the issue and was told the first thing to check was the DPF and that continuing to drive the vehicle if the DPF was blocked could result in more damage with the car going into limp mode and potentially having to replace the DPF at a cost of approx.. £1,200 + labour!
With no alternative, I called a nationwide company specialising in this kind of thing. They came to my location and cleaned the DPF on the road side at a cost of £360. The issue appeared to be resolved following this exercise, only to re-appear within a few miles. Basic diagnostics were showing ‘open circuit on coolant thermostat’. I called the AA and spoke to one of their technicians who thought that a sensor was probably at fault as the car had no loss of power. I was able to drive home and ended up getting the coolant thermostat replaced by the independent accredited mechanic who has maintained our cars (my wife has had a KIA Ceed for 15 years and never experienced any issues with it) for 20 years or so as per manufacturer schedule. Sadly, the issue persisted and my only option at this stage was a Dacia dealership who could run the Renault specific diagnostic software to pin point the faulty part. It turns out, there is a ‘2nd thermostat’, namely the low temperature thermostat on the radiator and that was the faulty part. Result: 1 hr labour to diagnose the issue + 2 hrs labour to replace the part + part + VAT > £509!
Considering the history of my vehicle (4 years 10 months, 51,000 miles at the time of the failure) and the hassle I have encountered as a result, I contacted Dacia customer services. I expressed my deep disappointment and asked Dacia to contribute to the cost of this latest repair. While I appreciate Dacia had no legal obligation to do so, I asked for a gesture of good will to be considered. It took 3 weeks (and 3 phone calls to chase them) for Dacia to let me know that, as my car was 2 years out of warranty by now, they would be ‘unable’ to help financially. At that point, I asked the case officer (3rd one I was dealing with) if she believed that 4 component failures in less than 5 years was normal. The unequivocal answer was ‘no’.
So, while Dacia customer services agree that such a number of failures in such a relatively short period of time (and quite low mileage) was not normal, they are ‘unable’ to help … Talk about ‘washing your hands off it’. What a let down!
It goes without saying that I have a written records of all the repairs carried out. Furthermore, I believe the phone calls I refer to are recorded thus substantiating my statement above.

Clutch judder is normal and built into Dacia's

To make a long story short...

I purchased a new Dacia Sandero from the Swansea Dacia/Renault Dealer

While still under warranty and at around 14,000 miles I reported a clutch judder problem with the car, and that sometimes it (amongst other things) was quite violent and contravened road safety

The Swansea dealer subsequently would not perform a proper investigation of the problem (eg. drop the gearbox to check for possible issues with oil seals, friction plate damper springs, and warpage in the pressure plate etc)

After continually reporting the judder to the dealer, without a resolve in sight, I complained to Dacia UK

Eventually, the Dacia UK office reported to me that the clutch judder problem was a characteristic of that particular model (not just mine but all sold), and was not considered a defect/problem, and as such not a warranty matter.

So... any unsuspecting souls out there who may be thinking of purchasing a Dacia, I have it from the horse's mouth that clutch judder comes with the vehicle, as standard and without additional cost - a clutch judder problem for free.... Wowwwww... hurry... hurry.... hurry, while stocks last!

PS. when buying the car if only the salesperson had told me that I would be getting clutch judder for free then I could have left her a tip, in gratitude.

2019 Dacia stepway

2019 Dacia stepway, rang about service, with Cardiff Dacia, yes sorted I thought, only to be contacted back by the young lady, to say they won't be doing a coolant change, why I ask, the technician says it takes to long, I thought that was what I was paying for, time and parts, or is this just a scam to get more out of you, since the car has gone out off warranty, they don't want to know, I would be weary now of buying a car from these now, wanted a boot lock, so I thought I would contact, Dacia pontyprid, only to be told, I won't be able to speak to them as they don't answer phone, she tried them no joy, I said never mind it's not the first time this as happened, and they never ring you back, she said give me your number I will ring you back, but again, like Turkish delight, full off Eastern promises.
Renault, you need to get a grip with Cardiff, and pontyprid if they are yours as well, I would never buy again from these, they don't give a hoot. 😞

Rusty Dacia

I think anybody just about to buy a new Dacia should read this review first.
I purchased my new Dacia Sandero in 2016 and have always looked after it well. Therefore, I was shocked when my husband found some rust which had appeared on the side sill.
He took my car to the Main Dacia dealers (Toomey Motors Basildon) body shop for them to have a look.
He was told the rust was due to water getting under the paint and it would cost £677 to repair.
Previously in 2022,when the car was only 5 years old we took it to the same garage because paint was coming off around the rear wing. On this occasion the garage took photos but told us to get a spray paint and repair it ourselves. I still have photos showing where the paint was coming off.
I did not buy a new Dacia to find that after 5 years the paint was coming off and now after 8 years it is going rusty.
Is this what you get for buying a reasonably priced car, which I am now deciding whether to get rid of.

Sutton Park Warwick ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING After Sales Service!

ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING SERVICE after the purchase of my car from Sutton Park, Warwick (Sept 2023) . 35 days after having it I reported an issue with gear changing which had started the week before but I was driving two cars at the time and put it down to that.
They were extremely unhelpful and in the two weeks it took for the car to go in to be mended and me getting a courtesy car (which RAC provided not Dacia) I spent £350 insuring my old car which I, luckily, had not yet sold. Plus £200 getting RAC cover on it and £150 for a new battery none of which would have occurred if it had not been for Dacia selling me a car that was damaged.

When the RAC arrived to tow it there was no tow hook (I still haven't had this replaced) in my NEW car.
I had to wait another day for a courtesy car and miss work in order to wait for the RAC collection (this work went unpaid), this was the third day of trying to sort a collection and I had started a new job having to be collected by my boss!
The dealership were extremely unhelpful with both myself and the RAC merely saying they had no space. The wonderful RAC person found space at Wolverhampton where my car remained until early January. After collecting it I discovered the tool bag emptied over the bag seat along with the car guidance, it was unvaleted, the back windscreen wiper blade was damaged and a few days later realised that the bonnet had not been put down correctly.

After having my car back for 6 weeks only the car is not changing gear again and has failed to change gear while I was driving down a motorway.
I phoned the service dept. this time and was told that they recognised how dangerous this fault was and would ensure I was booked in as a matter of priority ... a week and a day later I have heard nothing!

I wish I had realised that I only had 30 days to demand a refund as the fault did appear well within this time frame.
I do like the car very much but would avoid Sutton Park at all costs; aftersales service is worst than non existent: it is rude and unhelpful!

I am seeking legal advice regarding claiming back my costs and will be demanding a refund on the car. unfortunately because I was not within the 30 days when I complained about the fault I imaging this will not be a full refund

I am furious that I purchased a new car in Oct 2023 and by February 2024 I have only managed to drive it for 3 months and for only 6 weeks of those weeks has it been in full working order and the garage do not care that it is dangerous and unfit for purpose!

Our car has been in Dacia Crewe…

Our car has been in Dacia Crewe dealership for 3 months now and still no sign of an imminent repair. Its incredibly frustrating waiting for parts that are on back order as they say.
Renault/Dacia don't give two hoots about supplying parts for warranty work, and because of this I would definitely not recommend buying any of their products.

Just purchased a Dacia Sandero Stepway…

Just purchased a Dacia Sandero Stepway from Hendy Dacia Ferndown. I didn't think I was going to buy new with my budget until I discovered how reasonably priced these cars are and the feedback I've received from other owners is they cannot speak highly enough about them. It was a little daunting having never purchase new before but Kieron and the team from Ferndown made the whole process very easy and enjoyable.

Don’t buy one full stop

Don’t buy one full stop. The cars re okay but you will need to visit a dealer which is where it all goes wrong. Either they’re briefed to be as awkward as possible to keep costs down or they’re just useless. My car goes in with a gearbox fault on 5 Jan at which point it has a software update that the dealer advise has not fixed the issue. Can I return on 7 Feb for a gearbox out and strip. I do as asked. I’m advised to collect my car on 9 Feb as they’ve…..reset the gearbox (thought they did that in Jan). Total muppets. So between Jan and a Feb where they identified a fault that a reset didn’t cure it has fixed itself. Buy elsewhere. Based on my recent experience the only half decent dealership was a Mazda one.

Terrible customer service

Have twice been accused of lying by the Yeovil dealership. Once when our automatic Duster started to stall when pulling away. We eventually got it on video so they had to agree there was a fault. The fault still hasn't been resolved.

Then our Duster went in for its first service and was hit by another vehicle while at the garage. They claim the damage was already there, which is wasn't. They conducted a walk round of the car when it went in but are refusing to acknowledge they did this. Dacia UK won't help and said we need photographic proof the vehicle wasn't damaged prior to going for its serivce.

Overall its been disgusting service all round and we will not be using this dealer again or buying another Dacia.

Make sure you take photos of you vehicle prior to having work done by Dacia.

Do not buy a service plan

I bought a service plan through the Dacia site. The terms and conditions clearly stated that, if I wanted to cancel, I could do so at any time and could do so in the first 60 days without a cancellation fee. I received the certificate/new terms and conditions (now on Mobilize headed paper) with very little information and stating that the 'cooling off' period for cancellations had reduced to 30 days. I believed I had a service plan, with Dacia as I bought it on their site. After ringing my local Dacia dealership, I found that they did not have a record of my plan and did not know which service it would provide, or where to find this information from. They wanted to sell me their own plan and gave me incorrect information about the level of service required in the service schedule (twice: on line and via telephone call -of course more expensive than necessary). I tried to cancel the plan 3 days after taking it out. As I saw later, the scheme was administered by EMaC and not Dacia, and I needed to contact them to cancel the plan. I contacted EMaC and they told me I could not cancel the plan and this was in my terms and conditions. They continued to tell me I could not cancel it even when I presented them with the original terms and conditions. EMaC advised me that I needed to speak to Mobilize or Dacia. When I complained to Dacia that I was unable to cancel the plan which I signed up to through their website and agreed to their terms and conditions, they said that they could do nothing about it as EMaC administered the plan. I should have been aware of this from the terms and conditions. They would do nothing at all to help and did not think any of this was their responsibility. They would not even file my complaint.

Rubbish car that's riddled with faults

Rubbish car that's riddled with faults. Unfortunately own a 2019 Duster, don't waste your money within the space of 9 months car has had cooling fan issues (running constantly), reving issues (revs so low car feels like it's going to cut out, braking issues (constantly noise coming from brakes), and now the clutch and gear box has gone. Have only done 5k miles since owning and car has low mileage. Useless cars and not fit for purpose.

This is my second Dacia sandero stepway…

This is my second Dacia sandero stepway and I had no problems with the first one but this one I’ve had for nearly two years and when I took it for a service in February last year I reported that my seat was dropping over a period of a month which they said would be looked at. The seat was apparently replaced a few months later but the problem was still there. Customer service had been great up until that point. The car is lovely and no other issues, very reasonably priced for what you get. I’m almost due for the second service, I was passed on to head office as they can’t do anything else at the garage. Nothing has been followed up so I rang head office which sent me to a call centre to be told it was logged and I’d be contacted, still nothing, so I’ve a car that’s had a faulty seat for an extra year now and the seat drops over a period of a week now so obviously getting worse .
I’ve always been impressed with the company thinking I’d be buying another similar car next year but unfortunately if there’s a problem with a car I’ve realised it becomes the customers problem.

Thank you to reviewers. I have had a narrow escape.

I called the Dacia UK customer services on 0344 335 1111 with a question about why a cash purchaser was charged more than a finance purchaser for a new DUSTER. The call handler was preoccupied with collecting my data and I gave up waiting to get an answer and holding a silent phone to my ear. No-one bothered to call me back or email, so i checked out the reviews of Dacia Customer Service. I am glad I did, and grateful to all those who have bothered to record their experiences. i was horrified by what i read, and I will take your advice not to buy a Dacia.

Appaling Customer Service - Car Software

I had 2 new tyres fitted at my local Kwik Fit (My local Dacia dealer does not do tyres). Coming out of Kwik Fit I noticed the Power Steering and ESC warning lights had come on. I immediatlely took this to my local dealer who seemd to know all about this problem when having tyres fitted and looking through the internet later it does seem to be a common problem. The dealer told me they would have to recalibrate the car softcare to correct this and it would take 30 minutes and cost £78. I pointed out that the car was still under the extended dealership warrenty and all I had done was had 2 tyres changed it surely must be a warrenty item. They contacted the Dacia warrenty team who refused to pay it. I paid and then contacted Dacia customer services who also refused to do anything about it. Just to point out my local dealership are very good and helpful and my anger is directed at Dacia and the implementation of the warrenty. It all seems absolutely ridiculous to me that I have to pay an extra £78 because I had 2 tyres changed. Suffice it to say I will never be purchasing another Dacia or saying anything good about them to anyone I know. Absolutely appaling customer service over such a little thing.
