Buyer's beware when purchasing alcohol.

We purchased 10 bottles of champagne from Duggleby's Scarborough using the online platform. There was no mention of the age or condition issues.
We paid and collected. We opened one bottle which was corked and smelt of vinegar. Others followed with the same result. We contacted the auction house who initially were not interested. They then offered a partial refund of the commission. I requested a fee which meant that we all contributed, but I would still be paying the larger amount. Duggleby's turned it down. They would cut a penny in half and keep both sides.
{I paid £225 and Duggleby's offered £50.}
There should have been more information requested from the seller.
Very expensive drain cleaner.

Highly recommend!

We have bought from different auction houses over the last few years and have experienced the good, the bad and the ugly. David Duggleby is undoubtedly the best in our experience: reasonable valuations, low fees and very quick dispatch of purchases. Can't recommend them highly enough!

Sell With & Buy From Somebody Else

Communication and manner are major issues. They fail to communicate and are abrupt and rude when they do. On top of that the over value items and do not achieve estimate results and gouge buyers with shipping fees that are heavily marked up. Why deal with them when there are others and the bar for improvement is set so low.

I was mislead

Items sent to sale did not make anywhere near the valuation they had given me and also they did not contact me to ask if I wanted a reserve on the items (which I did) so with the cost of transporting to the sale room deducted as well I was very disappointed with the result and not impressed

The dream team of George, Duggie and Craig!

This Removal Company is first class and I highly recommend them. The team members who executed our move on the 3rd and 4th of February were amazing. Firstly we had Craig and Cam (Cameron) who carried out the packing service on Fri 31st January. These guys were extremely polite, helpful, friendly and worked tirelessly and efficiently on the job.
Monday 3rd was loading up day with George, Duggie and Craig in attendance. Once again they worked as a team seamlessly loading the truck paying special attention to detail. My husband and I were so impressed by the superb work ethic that ensued throughout their task. At the same time all three guys George, Duggie and Craig complemented each other as they worked speedily, tidily and helpfully. Nothing was too much trouble for these supermen and they remained friendly, good natured and courteous whilst they performed the job. I was actually sad to see them depart as they had skilfully taken away the stress from what was a very stressful event.
George, Duggie and Craig deserve a pay rise at the very least as they enhance the reputation of this firm. Stay well boys and take care!

Asked for a valuer to visit our home…

Asked for a valuer to visit our home where we had a large collection of porcelain miniatures. Was asked to send photos which could not be sent due to size of file. I then took pictures to them on my I pad and was advised that a valuer would contact me to arrange a visit. No one contacted me so I contacted the lady who told us she would be our liaison .sent her 2 e mails but didn’t even get the courtesy of a reply.
This is appalling service. If you don’t want to do the valuation you could at least give the courtesy of advising us.
We will not be using this auctioneers and would recommend others to consider alternatives

Property Clearance par excellence....

From the first phone call to clearing the property, it has been a pleasure to deal with Duggleby Estates. Tight timelines, Christmas period, horrific sheds to clear...

All of which was absolutely no problem. Courteous, clear, reactive.....nothing was too much trouble.

More than highly recommended

Extremely efficient and courteous

Extremely efficient and courteous. We have nothing but praise for the way our move was handled. Loaded, delivered, unloaded and finished in 7 hours - with an hours distance between properties. Very impressed and would certainly recommend.

Outstanding service & consideration

Outstanding service & consideration. Collected a few lots - large & heavy. DD had missed part of one of the lots & I missed it when I collected them. Halfway home (10 hr round trip) noticed the omission & contacted DD asking them to check.
DD located missing item - largeish & fairly heavy & in less than 24hrs had it packed & dispatched to me.
No dramas, no quoting T`s & C`s or blaming A N Other - just sorted it - these things happen.
Other houses should take note - this is service & customer care as it should be.

HOW NOT TO RUN A BUSINESS

Tried to obtain a valuation on-line and sent full details of a painting and never even had the courtesy of a reply and that was via the Harrogate office(melanie saleem).
Today because i was in the area called in the valuation event at the Talbot in Malton and it turned out to be a non-event. Totally unsuitable venue with no nearby parking as the car park was overflowing. Eventually shown to a tiny room jam packed with no privacy and facing a long wait . Appointments? So my advice is go elsewhere unless you want to waste your time

David Duggleby Auctioneer's

David Duggleby Auctioneers have sold several items at auction for me over the past couple of years. They communicate very well from initial valuation, listing statements including auction dates and times, through to payment of items sold. I can only praise and recommend this very professional company.

Reduced commission valuation

Not very impressed with their reduced commission valuation days. I even rang up to see if they would be interested and told to bring them in, but when I saw someone they said it wasn't worth it to them to sell them. Basically they weren't interested in anything which would be worth £20 or less when it was reduced commission. I wouldn't mind but whenever I have viewed their more basic sales, there are boxes and boxes of low value items which would struggle to get a bid. Also when selling anything be aware that there is a lot fee on top of the commission

Strange way to Auction Lots!

I bid £75 for a post auction lot which Duggleby's said was not enough, I saw later they sold the lot for £70, seems a strange way to run an auction house!!

Very poor

I dropped my items off for a valuation and was told I would get a call once they had been looked at. I had not heard after 3 and a half hours so called back in to be told that no one had looked at them. Then a lady came, didnt know where the items were, didn't even look at the items and told me they weren't worth much. I had travelled 2 hours for this valuation.
The lady on reception was really pleasant and helpful hence 2 stars instead of 1

Excellent service from start to finish.

Excellent service from start to finish. Very helpful staff from initial contact, through valuation, collection of items and the whole process of auction sales. Surprisingly good sales prices achieved for the items I was selling and prompt payment after completion. Top marks for a top notch experience throughout. Thank you.

Absolute rubbish auction house. Sell patched up movements and watches for high prices. Knowing or not, is your responsability to be sure what you sell is genuine. What a scam house. Never will buy again here. Advice for readers: save your money . Do not buy Rolex with FHF movement in it or Tudor with pink and chromed colour ebauche EB parts....Disgusted!!!!

Reply from David Duggleby Auctioneers & Valuers

Hi Alex,

Thank you for your feedback. All watches we sell are listed on our online catalogues prior to the auction. This includes a condition report, which details any parts that are not original to the watch, and photos of both the front and back of the watch and the movement. Our valuers are also available to provide pre-sale advice and answer any further questions you may have regarding the items and their condition before you place a bid.

We strive to provide a quality service to both our buyers and our sellers, and had you contacted us directly regarding any issues that you may have had, we would have tried to rectify the situation as quickly as possible. We are disappointed that you were not happy with the service that you received and would appreciate if you could contact us directly so that we can investigate this further.

Thank you,

David Duggleby Auctioneers & Valuers
