While we don't verify specific claims because reviewers' opinions are their own, we may label reviews as "Verified" when we can confirm a business interaction took place. Read more

Dubious practices

I’ve been contacted by ‘Denholm Associates’ on Linkedin and informed about an opportunity for an international sales role.

After submitting my CV the person who contacted me never actually reverted to me but a colleague of his phoned me a few days later and explained me about the role. I took him through my CV, he was praising my professional background and meant that my industry-specific experience, market relevant language skills and knowledge of the designated markets make me a strong candidate for the position. He also said that he’d try to negotiate for me with his client a salary slightly higher than advertised.

A week later he called me again and asked me about my actual status of employment, being fully aware that I had resigned from my position at my last employer and I was freelancing. Before arranging an interview with his client he tried to bully me into accepting his subpar proposal of settling for a salary significantly lower than what we were previously talking about on the premise that I was ‘unemployed', basically trying to offer me to his client as ‘damaged good at a discounted price’.

As I was unhappy with this new proposition and the whole matter appeared to be going nowhere I decided to withdraw from the interviewing process.

My overall impression was that this agency doesn’t represent the interests of candidates and just tries to push down salary expectations.
