I had a bad experience with DNC roofing…

I had a bad experience with DNC roofing based at the Chelmsford office. I had a quote from the salesman of £2900 for 3 sides of my guttering. The rear needed scaffolding so I thought I would get the easy bits done first. The salesman quoted £2900. My house wasn’t in desperate need of guttering but it was coming to that time. My house is 30 years old. I checked by email asking if there was any other possible costs, they said that there shouldn’t be any.

They took 2 sides of guttering off, the salesman came back and was very different. He told me that all my felt had deteriorated, it was more expensive than anything else to be replaced and the price had doubled. I didn’t have another £3000. I said well just do the two sides you have taken off then and I will do some more when I can afford it. He said we just don’t do that. I said but you said there was not going to be any extra costs and you are changing the agreement. He didn’t care. I had signed their form for £2900 which was agreed. He just dug in and said I had to pay. I said I couldn’t. He then said ok we can do eave trays instead and quoted another £1600. I felt I had no choice but I was so unhappy about it. The salesman was very forceful and In the end I had to sign for another £1400 to do it differently, I don’t know if it’s a good job that’s been done to my guttering as it wasn’t what was agreed. I feel manipulated and bullied by him. The men doing the work were polite, clean and tidy but I feel ripped off by the salesman. I will never have DNC roofing back, even for the guarantee. I won’t have them on my property again. I feel like an idiot but I was on my own and just didn’t know what to do. I think anyone who employs them should be prepared for them doubling the expected payment after an hour or so of being on site.

The salesman wanted to take my photo as a satisfied customer and shake hands but I declined to do that as I felt so manipulated.

I am happy to talk to anyone about this review and I have kept all the emails and paperwork to show the extra costs that I had to pay.
