most stuff is locked behind a paywall

most stuff is locked behind a paywall, i gotta admit its great for newbies but it sucks for long time players who want to use specific subclasses, you cant even select homebrewed ones made by others because you need a subscription for that

Ready your Wallets Dungeon Masters

As much as I hate to admit it, everything on here is accurate. But I'm gonna be honest with you, you might was well just use wiki-dots 5E. Sure not the most accurate, but slightly better than DND Beyond, here's why.

DND Beyond requires a subscription based payment for your character library. Books you buy are permanent though, so plus there. Still, there are better ways to get into DND. But if you're a dungeon master who wants to learn, this is a great place to start. Its not as needed for the adventures though lol.

Only website I would use for character sheets

I started using dnd beyond in 2018 for my first ever game and have readily relied on it ever since.

I like that you can have up to 6 characters at a time for free, which is really handy when you are playing multiple campaigns.

It is also really helpful for keeping track of all aspects of your characters. Easy to navigate page lay out allows for you to add things to inventory, customise stats, pick up feats, take rests, Heal/take Damage and find specific modifiers. It also gives a break down of your actions helping you keep on track in battles. All of this combined with the ability to roll digital dice on any one of your stats with the press of one button means that if you have a phone or tablet you essentially can have everything you need to bring to play Dungeons and Dragons from any where.

From a DMs perspective, the campaigns section allows me to add all of my players accounts to one particular thread. This way I can keep a track of character rolls, hit points, inventory etc in one place.

The ability to quickly search any aspect of the game like rules or spells details, as well as purchase particular spells, feats, classes from a number of sourcebooks is unbelievably handy.

Its a good website

Its a good website, it really is, you can make 5 characters for free, look up some stats for basic monsters, and you can even get free digital 3D dice. But seriously, did you have to support LGBTQ? ITS A DND WEBSITE...

So I used to have access to create…

So I used to have access to create characters in my campaign....we all shared different books so no one had to buy them all but now my character creation tool only accesses my books...which don't include Xanathar or Tasha since someone else already had them....to use these sources I have to edit one of the three existing campaign characters I had previously in effect erasing it. Thanks DnDBeyond! 🤬

They tried to rip off their creators under the OGL

For the past several weeks, Wizards of the Coast which owns the D&D brand has tried to amend the game's Open Gaming Licence to empower it to rip off the huge creator community that has made the game such a success. Nobody should trust them, nobody should use their product.

Wotc

WOTC had literally hundreds of ways to "increase profitability" without resorting to stealing from it's fans by attempting to go back on it's word and destroy the OGL. They could've sold dice, made their own Kickstarter, or done any other kind of merchandising. The level of greed they have displayed is outright disgusting and I cannot be a part of DnD beyond any longer. I will be encouraging my friends to do the same

Absolutely worthless Company

Abolaitly worthless company, There is a major bug with one of the character classes, and I reached out to support on the issue. They referenced a 6 year old article which *did not provide a resolution, only a conversation in which an agent said “we will look into it” and when I tried to add a comment onto that thread I was banned for attempting to comment on an outdated thread.

All this after spending $60 on dnd content that I already owned in paper copy. Genuinely a horrible company who has for a long time only cared about short term profits

God awful homebrew creation process.

God awful homebrew creation process. I was making a race. (called kilsion if I remake it again after this site ruined it) I spent an hour making subraces because I made a intial version with one subrace so I copied the race, but it removed the subraces from it so I had to copy and paste everything back since I had it saved and continued with adding the new other subraces thinking, "well that was annoying" So I make it and then I check to make sure everything is there, it is. I publish it and then the subraces are gone. I have to put all the subraces back and then hope that actually works that time. Also you can't delete homebrew once you publish it so I have 2 published subraces that are the same because I had to remake it. Absolutely afwful site, wish I could publish my homebrew somewhere else that was mainstream

They only sell online versions of the books

I was under the impression that when I ordered books from this site, I would get them in hard copy. I was wrong, and when you call their "books" they are online versions of the books. I could just find a pdf copy of the dnd books online rather than paying 150 dollars for them. When I ordered them, it asked me for a shipping address. Why would I need to give them a shipping address if they are not hardcopy? I am very disappointed in this and have spent my money on online copies of books when I could find versions of those online for free.

Terrible customer service

Like all the other reviews have said, be warned that there are no refunds and they can ban you and you lose access to all your books. Customer support is pointless, all they say is that there is nothing they can do.

This website is god awful

This website is god awful. For some reason they decide to make the official DnD website not sell physical books. So I bought the DM's guide, expecting it to ship to my house in a couple days cuz ya'know, I put in my shipping and billing info. But, than I looked into it and found that all purchases provide digital books, and there are no refunds allowed. How scummy is that? They tuck the info about it being a digital book right under your cart where random policies that nobody ever reads go. This is so disappointing and the mistake I made might end up costing me $30 if we cant find some way to refund it. Why on earth would it ask for my street address and shipping info if it was just going to give me a digital copy? I don't know why you would ever use this garbage anti consumer website. Never using it again.

I love the site, app could be better

I love the site, but the app and customer service are still below par.
Despite those faults, the site helps me and my kids organise our games so much better then ever before!
It helps in keeping our adventures moving forward instead of having to take our time to manually calculate everything.

It would be awesome, especially with my kids in mind if it could be translated into dutch.

Illegal consumer practices on refunds

Preordered Monsters of the Multiverse. Changed my mind after the announcement that WotC had bought them out so emailed customer support asking to cancel and have a refund as it isn't released until 17/5/22. "We don't do refunds" was their response which is illegal under UK law (For anyone at D&D Beyond who reads this, you have to comply with the trading laws of the countries you do business in, not the one you're based in. Just because you can get away with this in the US doesn't mean you can anywhere else).

They're not responding to further emails so I've sent the chat logs on to trading standards and will be contacting my bank about a chargeback.

Bad community support

Definitely a bad site in regards to overall value, they do not have a virtual table top and do not support one. Customer service is non-existent as well. Their extended support services promote an unsafe community atmosphere.
