Wishing all the dogs well

I first applied some months ago, for a border collie I waited only to be told the dog had been moved to Cheshire. When I phoned and e-mailed to ask why the dog had moved I was told they didn't no. I explained I had extensive knowledge of this breed as our 16 year old angel had past away. I was told to stop mithering. Feeling a little disgruntled. And wanting to adopt a rescue dog as we had a mixed breed from the home for 19 years. Ben was also famous for his appearance on supervets. With a condition called aspigillous. Everything went well and Ben had a very expensive nose job. Now we decided to try again there was a lovely black lab cross we asked was he available he was. So we applied for him. That was 5 weeks ago and still had no response. Getting weary of this process we finally adopted a border collie pup. The sweets baby with all the attributes of a very active collie. Strange how well we are coping yet the dogs home seem to think we couldn't

Absolutely awful service and I would not recommend anyone looking at these to adopt a dog.

If I could get away with putting no stars then I would have done. We had put our names down for a 5mth old husky and was told he had gone but his sister was available. We immediately said yes. When we had the video call she asked to have a look around the flat and then in the garden. We live in a flat on the ground floor, we walked into the garden and she said no. We tried to explain that our previous dog was shy and timid when we moved here but she only wanted to hear her own voice.

They told us that we could only have a small to medium dog however we have only ever had large dogs. This quickly changed to you can have an older dog and the 2 they offered was a 12yrs old who was a medium size dog and then they offered us a 10yr old husky which they claim to be a large dog.

Both my husband and I felt as though we were being discriminated against one because of my disability and the other age.

When we went up to the kennels to see the dog they were behind 2 panes of glass also the names and pictures of the dogs did not match the dogs in the kennel. On the website it said that this husky was 5mnths old however, when we were there it said her age was 2 and 1/2 but she was clearly just a puppy. The reason for us getting a puppy that was a husky/german shepherd is so that we could get them trained as an assistant dog, as our previous dog was a German shepherd cross Alaskan malamute and even though she had never been formally trained as an assistant dog she always looked after me and knew when something was wrong.

Manchester dogs home Charity Shop racist or just RUDE...rude…

Unsure as to whether they are just rude or racist as they seemed to be fine with me (I'm light skinned) yet as soon as this African guy came in their whole demeanour and attitude changed. They spoke to him in such a rude manner and for once in my life I held my tongue if nothing more just to see how it would pan out, also I was (again unusual for me) actually in slight disbelief, taken aback n didn't know what to say without being angry about it.

It was so cringe, imagine speaking to someone in such a rude manner and treating them like a second class citizen simply because of their accent and skin colour it is rather pathetic as well as just ridiculous considering we're in 2024;almost 2025.

Then again, that's old school rednecks for you.
Also, if you look at the area itself with the stupid B Mann club (no idea how that's even still standing) just around the corner it's not actually THAT surprising.

Pretty sure it's not them who profit and all proceeds actually go to the dogs. For that reason I would not stop spending money or bringing donations here.

The reviews are not all for the same…

The reviews are not all for the same Charity and there is confusion over who is being rated. Dogs' Homes is not a registered Charity, and there is no record of where they are based. DogsnHomes are a registered Charity and are based in Fleet Hampshire. They are a foster based rescue and therefore do not have a premises for people to visit. They have excellent 5 star reviews on Google and this is a more reliable place to ensure there is no confusion about people's experiences.
It would appear that Dogs' Homes is trying to piggy back on the back of a reputable Charity.

Information not correct

After ringing up and being told on the automated message they were open to the public we went only to find they aren’t! We were told you have to apply for a dog via the website (how can you tell if you want a dog this way???). They say it’s because the dogs get stressed with visitors. I would’ve thought it would be good for them to see the public! I understand though some will be anxious. I have rescued two dogs previously and I cannot see the benefit of the post Covid system! Luckily as fate would have it we went to a different home and are now in line to get a beautiful staffie. I feel for those dogs at Manchester and Cheshire who could have so many more chances if the general public could view them 😡.

We found our furever princess!

The experience of getting a rescue puppy from Gary & Michele has been a wonderful one. And we have been matched with the most gorgeous dog. She is exactly what I and my 80 year old mom were looking for. I can't thank you enough for listening to us, and then allowing us to adopt our beautiful Kyra. I highly recommend DogsnHomes for rescue dogs & puppies.

I highly recommend this charity

I highly recommend this charity. Gary and Michelle really listen to what you are looking for from your pet and are very careful to match you with exactly what you are looking for. If you need support from the team they are ready to give advice. My beautiful dog is 5 and he's been with me just a week and I couldn't have wished for a dog anymore well mannered funny and totally adorable. I call him Archie and in a week he's walked miles and let me bath him and clean his teeth. I can't thank the team at Dogsnhomes enough for finding Archie for me. They are very selective about dogs they choose in Portugal and if others are like my Archie you too will be extremely pleased.

Home lies about previous owners! AVOID!

I thought this place was a great place to take my old dog to be rehomed... I was wrong...

Here is some backstory. I used to own a dog called Poppy. A beautiful dog she was. Unfortunately, she took a disliking to my, at the time, just walking baby niece. We made the decision to take her to be rehomed after she began snapping and snarling at my niece. Since my niece is over a lot, and we had neither time or funds on our side, we thought it be in Poppy's best interest for her to go to a dog home.

Our thoughts were she would be trained to not snap or snarl at infants, or she would go to someone who doesn't have infants.

We looked at the Facebook page daily to see if our Pops had found a home. A month later, she did, and we were thrilled.

This is where things take a turn.

This year, a good few years after our Pops was in her new home, we found the current owner. My sister found a disturbing post that the owner posted on Instagram. Her post was a picture of Pops. It stated her disbelief at how anyone could hurt her. Going on to say how she was beaten and neglected.

My sister and I both contacted her, and she blocked us both. Who would you believe though. A dog's home, or the people the home have told this girl that "beat her and neglected her".

I have tried contacting the home via Facebook. An automated response was all I got stating I'll be responded to. It's now been a week.

I gave them the chance to explain. I find it absolutely disgusting that lies are told about the old owners of dogs there. Presumably, they are creating sob stories to get dogs adopted faster...

A disgusting thing to do. Beware of this home!

In my opinion the Staff do an Amazing job

In my opinion the Staff do an Amazing job! Especially given pressure they are under, With the growing trend of "hybrid & designer dogs"that so called "pet breeders" and puppy farms/ pet shops are charging extortionate prices for, yet have no clue what they are doing or what they are breeding & when that lovable fluffy "non moulting" pup grows up and starts shedding and ends up with a list of vet bills caused by poor breeding & genetics, its places like Manchester dogs home who have to step in & save these animals.

I think it's right that they are careful and have such strict rehoming policies,if they didn't and that animal came back 9 times out of 10 that animals place has already gone. I've volunteered at a few rescue centres over the years and people who have been moaning and posting negative reviews about the rehoming policies, should go and volunteer for a day!
