While we don't verify specific claims because reviewers' opinions are their own, we may label reviews as "Verified" when we can confirm a business interaction took place. Read more

Campaigns against constructive criticism and forcing shills.

This forum does not want you to criticize any brand despite posting facts. It's turf for corporate headers and their mindless drones. Their moderation threshold rivals Reddit without an issue.

I got banned permanently without a warning because I vented about Sony autofocus with adapters, then unbanned after a week, then banned again for saying that LA-EA5 adapter does not support phase detection autofocus with third party lenses or screwdriver autofocus sony lenses on a 2023 thread without answer. Apparently saying facts about something is following an agenda against a brand. Sure, let's spread misinformation everywhere and let people make a wrong move with no other option but regret buying incompatible stuff.

Moderators tyranny !

Very good website about photography but there is one very big problem and that is with those self-righteous moderators who block members for a while if they write something they don't like. They think they are all powerful and you are not allowed to say anything about it in the forums because that alone is a reason to be blocked.
They just take your answer to a question from other members of the site and then warn you via a private message as if they are putting a toddler in the corner in kindergarten.
I have already terminated my "veteran" membership a first time, came back but am now going to cancel a second time.
I don't need this childish attitude in my life.

Moderator on DPreview just deleted my comments…

Moderator on DPreview just deleted my comments criticizing how the forums are run. And they lied about the reason for the deletion, claiming I was not allowed to make private comments because I was a new user. Nope...not a private comment and not a new user. Joined in 2015.

The forums are a pig sty. I tried to use the ignore function on some of the pigs, but it's like being in a fight with your hands tied behind your back. They can still read and comment on everything you write. If you don't want to get in a pissing match, what good is it?

Someone else commented on trying to improve the the discourse, but he got attacked. Some claimed they learned more from the heat...and nothing from civil discourse. It's a garbage site. Avoid.

The good, the bad and the ugly

The written reviews are thorough and unbiased. The hands-on video reviews by Chris & Jordan very useful and entertaining. Also excellent technique articles by various contributors. Comments/forums best avoided, as often highly toxic and overrun with prejudiced brand warriors.

Review of camera website, Dpreview.com

This a good camera review and discussion site, secondarily a news site, if only because they lag other sites in news updates. The reviews are done well, even though they don't actually do many in a given time-frame. But in the forums, it's fine unless you run afoul of the moderators who range from tolerant to lock-step minions with no appreciation of context. This is probably due to policies from their corporate owner, Amazon. Corporations don't like controversy and anything that deviates from a fine-line. If you want more free-ranging discussion on cameras, go elsewhere.

Best photography camera website

Dpreview always has the latest news and everything I need to know about the latest technology in photography. I sometimes join the contest and I have won 1 time. When a new camera is announced they will post a quick review on the same day. Apart from canonrumours.com (dpreview doesn't do rumours) and photographers site my only source for photography.
