Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Evaluating 160 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many customers expressed significant dissatisfaction with the customer service, describing it as terrible, unhelpful, and often leading to automated responses or closed tickets without resolution. People frequently encountered issues with the service itself, including problems with file uploads timing out, syncing difficulties, and files not updating across devices, which caused stress and delays. The website also presented challenges, with users reporting frustrating login processes involving numerous security questions and clicks, and a general lack of intuitiveness in the user interface. Many users also faced unexpected changes to their subscriptions, such as sudden billing switches or the removal of promised free storage, leading to files being deleted without consent. Conversely, a small portion of people felt the service was convenient for storing personal files, easy to use, and reliable, with quick syncing and a simple interface.

Worst Support Experience in years

By posting a simple question, where I asked their team to confirm something in their helpcenter I ended up being handled by Payton, an extremely uninterested agent.

He first started by offering information in full contradiction to their helpcenter, and when confronted, he started avoiding giving full answers. My last few emails were barely read, and he replied only to the first idea in each, and ignored the other questions.

He also stated that he cannot assign my ticket to another agent as that's not possible, which is a basic functionality of their ticketing tool.

I then had to find a solution for my issue alone, and when I asked him to confirm if that's working, he didn't even bothered reading my email and just said that I still don't understand how the tool works.

I’ve never had any major issues using it, though I sometimes experience syncing problems. I use the free version, so the number of ‘sign-up’ ads is a bit high, but I accept that since it’s free. It works on both desktop and mobile. The user interface, however, could be more intuitive.

Absolutely ZERO stars

Absolutely ZERO stars. Invasive buggy software. It even hooks into the screen capture!! No company should do that !! Put options in your product and stop interfering with normal stuff. I could never get the backup of specific external drive to work and I'm a senior programmer !! I requested full refund. Crap software AVOID !!

Very expensive for what you get.

I’m not happy with Dropbox. I got a MS365 family account for the same price. I also found out I have a 1Password account for free with another subscription. It’s a no brainer to drop Dropbox. Especially since they cancelled Passwords. I like 1Password and OneDrive better anyhow. Glad Dropbox pushed me to upgrade.

Terrible App with terrible customer…

Terrible App with terrible customer support - they answer your requests but give you a "shrug of the shoulders, can't do anything about that,"answer. I was trying to change my password after it had been hijacked and couldn't help. The App is undependable, slow and overall clunky - as is the customer service. Find alternative methods to transfer your photos and files.

I paid for a 3TB Professional dropbox… never again!

I paid for a 3TB Professional dropbox account (after being assured by Dropbox that it would allow me to share photo collections with my clients, 'easily and without any need for them to sign up or login'. What they didn't tell me is my clients would still be bombarded with "sign-up", "free-trial" "sign-in" and a whole lot of other confusing promo links before they ever found the "tiny tiny plain black text" that says 'or continue to download'. Not a single client found it without having to contact me for help. They were all confused and frustrated. The only reason I gave 2 stars is I got a refund (but I would have preferred to get what I paid for). I should have read the reviews before I signed up as they say it all!

Beware of Dropbox Support and Dropbox Paper – My Two-Month Nightmare

I’ve been a paying Dropbox customer for years, but my recent experience has completely eroded my trust in the service.
1. Non-existent Support
When a critical file suddenly became unreadable, I opened a support ticket immediately. Two months later, after endless back-and-forth, multiple screenshots, videos, and repeated requests for updates, I still have no resolution. Support replies are polite but essentially stall for time, never providing a plan, a manager contact, or a clear answer. I’ve been asked for the same information multiple times while nothing seems to happen in the background.
2. Do Not Use Dropbox Paper
The file that vanished was a Dropbox Paper document — Dropbox’s own document format. One day it worked, the next day it was empty and unreadable across all devices. Because it’s a proprietary format, I can’t recover it the way I could with a normal file, and apparently Dropbox can’t either. Using Paper means you’re locked in, and if something goes wrong you may be out of luck.

If you’re forced to keep local backups of files you store on Dropbox “just in case,” doesn’t that defeat the whole point of using Dropbox in the first place? Their core promise is safe cloud storage and reliable access — and right now, that promise feels broken.

Unscrupulous

Cancelled my account, kept emailing me to get me back. They automatically sign you up for free trials you don't ask for. They use dark design to get you in and make it hard for you to leave. Very unscrupulous.

They will try to con you into buying more storage.

I kept getting messages that I was over my storage limit. Now, I will admit, I may not be the most tech savvy person, but when I started looking through the files, there were all these "videos" that couldn't be played on DropBox or my MacBook. I've only ever had Apple devices, so I can't see how they wouldn't work on my laptop. I would not have uploaded something that can't be viewed on Apple products. I feel like they added a ton of useless content to make it seem like I was over on storage. There were so many duplicate files that I did not upload. I finally downloaded my photos and actual videos and cancelled my account. There are times when giving a company one star feels like too much.

Dropbox used to be great

Dropbox used to be great, but lately it's become unreliable. I've experienced several instances of files disappearing or syncing issues. Customer support wasn't helpful either. For the price, there are better options out there.

Rubbish in 2025. Moving to a new platform.

If you work with clients or anyone external. It's rubbish.

You can only be allowed access to 'shared folders' of a maximum of 10GB.

This means anything beyond this, YOU have to pay for it, which makes no sense.

Dropbox CEO, CFO, and CMO need to look into this.

Otherwise the investors should fire them.

Love it when I have to pay to upload to someone elses dropbox folder! When they are already paying! Constantly pop ups pressing me to upgrade my plan for more space. I can't even escape the pop ups to move files. Not to mention, it's incredibly slow and glitchy.

Looking For A Reliable Service. You will not find it here.

I am looking for a reliable online storage facility and chose to look at DropBox based on their advertising.
In such circumstances, I always check out the provider's Customer Service before making any decisions. In DropBoxs' case, I set up a free account just to get a feel for some of the facilities on offer such as file transfering et cetera. I did not have to wait long before I started getting messages to say that my Dropbox was well over the 2 GB maximum for a free account. This is despite my having less than 50 MB in my storage area. I emailed customer service to report this but given the report by other reviewers, I was not surprised to soon find out out why previous user reviews were so poor.. I never even had a reply. As a result, I have decided not to carry on with my assessment of dropbox and to look for other options.

The worst app I've ever used

The worst app I've ever used, as it doesn't work properly! Absolute waste of money as I paid for the year. File transfers on phone rarely work, mainly error messages and ridiculously slow uploads despite good internet connection. Files seem to be uploading but after waiting a really long time, it times out and error message pop up. Difficulty moving files on PC too, again...kept timing out and only working randomly. Very frustrating. I kept trying for a few months to try and solve issues, eg download latest version etc, but no joy, so eventually had enough.

I lost a lot of important data

I had a shared folder with my previous acountant, but when she was no longer my accountant, she wanted to remove her acces to my folder. When she did that, the whole folder went missing for both me, her and my current accountant. Thats many years of important files. After that I have been in dialogue with the support team and moved on to "advanced support", but I was first told that I couldnt be the owner of the file, since she could remove it. They therefore needed an email from the other account, it took many days to get a reply, but they ended up saying that she also couldnt be the owner, since it could disappear for her, and then they wanted an email from me - as I have already written them 12 days ago when I started to try and solve the issue. The waiting time between each response has been long and I have written them almost every day. I still havent gotten my folder back. I cannot trust that my files are safe there even though I pay for the Plus version, where they say, they are able to recover files up to 30 days. I have to find an alternative. Otherwise I was happy about it until this nightmare started.
