A Police Force that cannot analyse situations.
An aggressive bully got away with an assault.
My husband was walking our dog on the road near our home. A man got out of his car and physically attacked him. My husband arrived home on the verge of going into shock with tachycardia and fast breathing, so bad I thought he was going to have a heart attack. He had bruising.
I told the police the 'back story' to this incident. In a nutshell, the attackers wife had driven past our house deliberately sounding her car horn, (her children were in the car), and my husband verbally challenged her. We were then subject to a number of occasions where a car drove by late at night with the driver sounding their horn.
People don't just get out of their vehicles and attack others for no reason. Because of what he said to my husband while he was assaulting him I knew it was linked to the car horn incidents. He said words to the effect of 'I'll teach you to cheek my children' (!)
The police certainly had the wool pulled over their eyes even though they were informed of what had happened previously. There was no analysis of preceding incidents and circumstances by them. It was obvious that there was a very high probability that this person carried out an assault. Even though he had never met my husband before, he and his wife had a grudge, and the opportunity to take 'revenge' presented itself when his wife identified my husband as they drove past him. This was an opportunist crime. He got out of his vehicle and ran towards my husband with his fists raised. He however, when questioned later, accused my husband of assaulting him! How on earth would my husband be able to assault him whilst trying to control our labrador dog at the roadside? Why would he? Any 'laying hands' on him was in self defence.
There were also 2 witnesses who had a partial view of what was going on, they saw my husband laid out on the floor. However the police did not accept any evidence from them because of the 'partial view'.
The incident was reported a few minutes after the assault which occurred mid afternoon, but the perpetrator was not interviewed until the evening. You can sure be that alcohol was involved in this some where. How fortunate for him that he had a car full of 'witnesses'. What a wonderful example to his children.
Dyfed Powys police just can't be bothered to take any account of preceding circumstances.
I'm afraid that the default position of Dyfed Powys police is that nothing will be done unless there is some sort of digital evidence, which makes one wonder how things would have been done before such mechanisms were available.
We no longer have any faith in this police force, and it seems that aggressors and liars thrive in this area.
Because of the unsatisfactory response from the police, we were both left traumatised, not just by the incident, but by the way the complaint was handled. We were offered 'victim support' services, which was odd as the was a denial that my husband was actually a victim!
I suppose I should count myself lucky my husband wasn't more seriously injured or murdered by him. I wonder what the police response would have been then.
