DJ, Beats and Sax Wedding Booking

We booked the DJ, beats and sax package for our recent wedding. It was really useful to speak with the DJ before the event and share Spotify playlist ideas. Where possible the DJ played as many of the songs we had requested which was fantastic. The addition of the beats player and saxophonist were brilliant and added extra excitement for our guests when songs were playing. We loved how the saxophonist engaged with the audience and moved around the dance floor. Our event experience therefore was absolutely fantastic and definitely 5 stars!

The only reason why I have not listed five stars for Earcandy as a whole was there was a minor travel booking issue where ferries needed booking and it was only when I as the bride raised this the day before the wedding (during a pre-event phone call) that it had been considered despite my booking being made two years previous to our event. I felt this was something that should have been noted by Earcandy and added to my initial quote at time of booking. A very minor thing, but it added an additional last minute stress to my wedding day that could have been avoided.

Thanks so much for the great review, Lucy!

We're really happy to hear that the DJ & Sax had such a positive impact on your wedding day 🎧 🎷

We've taken on board your feedback about the ferry, and will look at ways to improve the clarity for future customers about these costs in the future! ❤️

The Indie Heads - Amazing!!

We got married on 2nd June and had The Indie Heads play at our evening reception. They were incredible!!

They played all the requests we asked for and even some extra ones that they knew the crowd would enjoy! Everyone was up dancing all night and whenever anyone comments on the wedding, everyone always mentions how amazing the band was and best they've ever seen.

They were on time and I had the disco package included between band sets and that was great. The sound engineer was lovely and let us request songs on the night from guests.

I had a phone call 1-2 weeks before the wedding which was so helpful and gave me suggestions with set times etc, which put my mind at ease!

Thank you so much, was a bit apprehensive at first, booking a band online that I had never seen, but you blew my expectations away.
I would recommend the Indie Heads and earcandy to anyone planning a wedding!

Wedding music

Earcandy recently arranged music for our wedding at lapstone barn. We had a pianist during the day and then dk, sax and beats in the evening. The team were really accommodations and went through all our requirements over the phone ahead of the day. The music was brilliant and our guests loved it, we've even had a couple ask for details so that they can book them too!

Thanks to all the performers for making it a great day.

Dj and his team were amazing! Earcandy… not so much.

The DJ was amazing from my first contact with him, I was nervous leading up to the wedding as I had had no contact from Earcandy unless I chased them.

Many emails sent to Earcandy received no response and I couldn’t get through on the phone so it was good to speak to the DJ directly and organise everything for the day.

The team he brought for the evening entertainment were amazing! Our guests loved every minute. The Saxophone and drums made the best atmosphere for the wedding and had everyone up and dancing. We cannot thank you enough.

Unfortunately I would avoid using Earcandy again as their communication is extremely poor I never had to chase any other supplier.

All our other suppliers responded swiftly and we had been contacted at least 4 weeks + before our wedding date to organise final elements where as I had to personally chase Earcandy to get any sort of contact from them. This made us anxious along with other reviews of couples being cancelled on last minute.

Our 3* review is only for Earcandy due to the poor communication. The DJ and his team are 5* and above. Thank you for the best evening entertainment.

I tried to name the DJs act but have been forced to remove this by Earcandy I assume to stop people going direct.

Hey Oliver, thank you very much for the candid feedback - we're really delighted to hear that you were happy with the DJ performing at your wedding.

Normaly the final events call happens about 2 weeks before the date of the wedding, particularly during the busy season.
We tend to do this because the music is usually the 'last' thing to be orgnaised, and so needs to fit around other suppliers (venues, caterers etc) which tend to be a little more 'fixed' with their schedules.

Reading your feedback, we understand that this can be worrying if other suppliers are in touch 4 weeks beforehand.

We'll take your comments onboard as we review the communication milestones for future customers!

The worst customer service I have ever encountered

Booked our sound engineer, DJ and band through ear candy in 2021 for our wedding end of July 2022. Over the last year we have had to change venues twice due to both venues folding- Earcandy fairly helpful up to this point although tried to charge us £75 for a venue address change however agreed goodwill gesture. As the wedding day drew closer I started to become really concerned as we could not get hold of them, I mainly wanted to query why the customer booking portal was not updated with the new venue change. Eventually spoke to someone who described himself as the director who said they couldn’t follow “normal procedure” and would leave a note on the system for the band and DJ to see. Wedding day - no sound engineer even though we asked for one to be present from 14.30 play our playlist. Venue tried to contact Earcandy - nothing. Band and DJ showed up in the evening but said they had gone to one of the former venues that we had previously booked, couldn’t work out how they managed to get here as our wedding coordinator couldn’t reach Earcandy at all. It has since then transpired that later on the afternoon of our wedding day a guest who happened to have my phone on them received a phone call from the band and DJ who had turned up at the first venue which had folded, which was over an hour away! It was by sheer luck that my phone was with the guest and they were able to take the call to let them know the new venue address. So grateful the band called my number or else they would never have made it, although not ideal they had to call my number on my wedding day, how many brides do you know wants to be taking calls from suppliers on the wedding day!? (Or even has their phone on them!?). Apparently I had 1% phone battery on my phone so the guest gave the band his number and they called him back, we have phone records to prove this and also the fact my friend has the band’s number as incoming phone call further proves this. Ear candy had not sufficiently updated the system with venue change as the band and DJ clearly did not get this information, nor did we have a sound engineer from 14.30 as booked. The same guest spoke with the band that evening, the band shared that Earcandy are “notorious for letting customers down” - their words not ours, although we wholeheartedly agree. Since our wedding day I have tried repeatedly to get answers from Earcandy however continue to be dismissed. Worst company I have ever come across, and completely dismiss the stress/worry/anxiety they caused in the lead up to, and on my wedding day. I’m sure Earcandy will again respond with deflection and somehow look to blame the customer, however I wish to provide a factual review to help others.

Update: as far as we know earcandy did not speak to the venue on the day- certainly not at the point when we had the phone call from the band or when we realised no sound engineer had showed, the venue have also submitted a complaint to earcandy and as far as I know have not received a reply. It was sheer luck the band called my phone on the day and that they turned up at all! Earcandy’s one job was to communicate efficiently to all their acts updated information of venue change - they did not. It was so unfortunate that we experienced venues folding and venue changes were not helped- but it happens especially in these recent times, earcandy are simply not geared up to accommodate venue changes/updates - as proven with our booking. The refund offered was minimal and not what we agreed was the sound engineer fee. They failed with their one job and breached their own t&cs

Hello Joanne,

We're sorry to hear your review,

We've been speaking about this privately, but we will respond publicly too.

You are correct to say that you had two seperate venue changes, which we charge administrative changes for. These charges are laid out in the terms of booking you agreed with.

These changes require fairly significant work for our team to ensure all suppliers are updated, our systems are changed, and all the venue checks are carried out again. Since not all customers require venue changes, we do not account for these costs within normal bookings, and instead, charge these costs if someone needs to change their venue.

You told us that you were not happy to pay this as you felt these changes were simple, and a simple note could be added to the itinerary. We agreed to not charge you this cost and instead add a note to the itinerary. As soon as we made this change, the itinerary was updated for the band and sound engineer, the same changes that were reflected on your portal.

This change also incurred an additional £123 with your DJ, due to the additional travel, and your origional DJ being unable to accommodate the venue change which we have not charged you, and we covered this difference.

On the day of the event, the sound engineer didn't notice this change had been made. This is because it was a note, and we hadn't been through the normal due diligence checks we normally would have done. As a result, they didn't arrive early to play your background Spotify playlist.

Your venue contacted us, and as soon as they told us, we called the sound engineer. We also called all other personnel to make sure everyone was available to arrive for the evening set. According to the venue, they were able to perform background music in the meantime, so there was no need for us to send anyone else in the sound engineers place.

The band and DJ arrived on time to perform your evening set as expected.

We have offered to refund you the amount of money charged for the earlier background music for the sound engineer which you have not accepted.

We apologise for the inconvenience. Although our team was trying to help you, as you were unhappy with a charge. We will learn from this, and in the future, in particular the importance of following our processes for venue changes.

Traumatised…….

I decided to delay reviewing Earcandy to allow some time to calm down. Unfortunately every time I open Trust Pilot and read other peoples experiences, the anxiety returns. A symptom of how Earcandy single handedly ruined the lead up to my wedding.

The responses to other negative reviews says it all. It’s the customers fault, our T&C’s make this clear etc. Such an attitude demonstrates a complete lack of empathy and understanding that runs through the culture of the organisation so despite Motown Gold being a SUPERB band, if Earcandy are their exclusive agent, its with sorrow that I recommend you look elsewhere.

I work in the IT industry and this is the first time that I have seriously considered using various tools at my disposal to share my experience to a wider population via social media. I feel it’s in the public interest to learn of the negative effect Earcandy has on customer well-being. It’s sickening. So I ask the owner of Earcandy, you must improve and sort your house out. It’s unacceptable.

Surprisingly, I’ll start by stating the first contact with the owner is actually quite pleasant. A good chat about our needs, a competitive quote, appointing of an Events organiser, comprehensive website, comms portal and responses to emails. That’s where it ends …around the time the first deposit payment is completed. After this point, Earcandy were disinterested.

Out of the 10-11 suppliers, Earcandy were the only supplier to charge for rearranging the wedding date due to covid. Yes, I know its covered in T&C’s blah, blah but come on. Seriously?!

Despite updating the portal, I had to email requirements on numerous occasions to the 2-3 Events Organisers I was passed between.

Don’t bother calling them. I called 10-15 times when comms went dark. No-one answers. Perhaps in response to this review, wider data can be shared on answering calls to customers? I’d be fascinated.

It took weeks for some email replies. I have countless chasers sent to various contacts. A Director does deserve recognition here. I believe he recently joined and has the mammoth task of sorting out front of house. Thank you, even though you couldn’t resolve my enquiries at first, your acknowledgement was always appreciated.

On the 24th June, I asked Earcandy if we could simply upgrade our lighting package. On the 27th July (day before our wedding), after constant chasers, I eventually got confirmation of this from the Events Organiser. I thought she’d left the Co. to be honest.

In May (approx), we requested the sound engineer to do 3 x sets and the band do the 1st dance. A Director confirmed the sound engineer request the week before the wedding and the Owner confirmed the latter only 3 days before the wedding.

At one point I was unsure if the band were even going to turn up as everything had gone quiet. I was reluctant to send another payment until Earcandy had come back to me and there was no chaser for payment.

There was no proactive contact from the ‘Logistics Manager’ with the venue despite my requests which led to a couple of issues on the day

We had to chase Earcandy for the pre wedding phone call to finalise things. Disappointingly, this wasn’t even with the Events organiser so had to repeat everything and re-email the person we spoke to who responded once with no further assistance. Pointless call.

In conclusion, I was unsure of whether:

1) Sound Engineer doing 3 sets
2) The lighting request upgrade
3) Band doing 1st dance
4) Venue had been contacted to confirm details
5) The band actually turning up
6) Who was owning my enquiries

All of this was outstanding with less than 10 days to the wedding and nobody answering calls. I couldn’t sleep. It was horrible. One issue being resolved the day before the wedding.

The wedding day was the best day of my life, thanks to all of the other suppliers and of course Motown Gold but the days leading up to it were the worst, the absolute worst and this is solely down to Earcandy.

I wanted to email Motown Gold directly to thank them for their performance and to recommend they get a new agent but unfortunately Earcandy didn’t supply their details. Merely offered to forward on feedback. So I am sorry Motown Gold but thank you and get a new agent.

I don’t want a response as it will be in the same tone as all the other responses. I’d expect the same old drivel of it not being their fault. No doubt it was mine.

Consider this a warning to other couples, that’s my sole objective.

Hey Chris,

Thank you for your feedback

We've had a phone call about this before replying publically, and I'd like to thank you for your direct feedback.

The team were slower to respond about the upgraded lighting because we were trying to negotiate a reasonable price for the upgrade for you with the third party. However, after speaking with you today we completely understand that the delay this caused was adding to the stress.

We also take into account that keeping you more in the loop about the reason for the delay would have helped to ease your stress because you would have more reassurance everything was in hand.

We are delighted that you were happy with Motown Gold, and genuinely thankful for the time you spent today talking over this feedback on the phone.

Best wishes

DJ great, EarCandy very poor

Our DJ was great and we were really pleased with the music choices, he worked really well to our brief.

However the communication from Earcandy was really bad, simply awful. They took our first payment and then we didn’t hear back until a few weeks before the wedding, and then multiple emails/calls went unanswered as close as a week before the wedding. This was really annoying last minute stress and I would advise to steer clear.

fantastic wedding entertainment

Despite the negative reviews, Earcandy have been great with us.
They have contacted us with changes to songs we requested and when I called, I managed to speak to someone. We had a detailed conversation about timings a month prior. It understandable that they can be tricky to get hold of with the amount of weddings and events happening this summer. We trust earcandy so haven’t felt the need to contact them over and over again about anything.
I asked for our DJs contact number and they supplied it so I could speak to him about our playlist ( I would suggest you do this rather than waiting for them to contact you).

DJ Damo was outstanding, he got everyone on the dancefloor and played the right songs at the right time. We have so many amazing videos and comments from our guests!! There were many sore legs the day after!

Equally, SOUL FRESH had everyone on the dance floor. We knew we had picked the right band for our night! The lead singers were fantastic and had everyone singing along.

We were so happy with our entertainment and so were our guests. 100% recommend DJ Damo and Soul Fresh for your wedding!!!

Avoid using Earcandy at all costs

I would strongly advise to avoid using Earcandy.

We paid them to arrange for a DJ and light system for our wedding.

We had this booked in for weeks and weeks, only to be told a few days before the wedding that the DJ could no longer make it. From speaking to the DJ, they had actually told Earcandy that they couldn’t do the event well before this date, which just illustrates how badly organised Earcandy are.

In the next couple of days literally no support was given by Earcandy. I lost count of the number of emails and phone calls I made with no response or resolution of the issue.

In the end we had to beg the DJ to try to find someone else from his contacts - NOTE, THIS WAS NOT HIS JOB TO FIND ANOTHER DJ, IT WAS EARCANDY’S - literally the only job they had in the whole process. Th DJ managed to find someone unaffiliated with Earcandy which meant we weren’t able to use the premium lighting package that Earcandy were meant to provide (and which we paid for), and which we haven’t been refunded for.

The DJ managed to find us another DJ who was unaffiliated with Earcandy in the end. Because of this lack of service from Earcandy, we were still sorted logistics with the new DJ the morning of the wedding when we should have been enjoying our special day.

Earcandy were quite happy to respond and talk to us when they were taking our money/ payment for the event. Unsurprisingly they haven’t been so quick responding to our with feedback and requests for refunds for the lack of service, and the lighting package which were unable to use.

Once again, I would strongly recommend to avoid these people as service providers and just go direct to the performer, as they literally provide no value.

Hi Nick,

We're sorry to hear your feedback.

We've checked your file and we can see that prior to the event, one of our team members was trying to get hold of your partner Charlotte. She made the booking, and also provided us with her telephone number as our main point of contact. However each time they called, they got voicemail.

We can also see that the team did inform you about the change, and we provided you with the contact details of the DJ that had been reallocated.

If a DJ is unable to make an event that they have been booked for and agreed to perform at, it would normally be their responsibility to source a replacement. Initially, this would be from our pool of verified DJs. If there is no one available, they are allowed to source one from outside this pool. This is as long as they are verified as meeting our standards and can fulfil the itinerary and contract to brief.

In your case, we can see that the initially booked DJ had to cancel for unavoidable personal reasons. Due to the exceptionally busy nature of the industry at the moment, none of the DJs from our pool was available. Therefore, they sourced someone from outside our normal pool. We verified that this DJ met the standards required, they were briefed, and they were allocated to your event.

We can also see that the team carried out the initial consultation with you, the venue checks and the pre-event phone calls, communicated with you by email in the lead-up to the day and prepared the itinerary with you. Part of the value that you receive from Earcandy is that if a DJ is unable to make an event, you can rest assured that there will be someone else booked in their place - which is what happened in this case.

You have mentioned that there are some concerns regarding the lighting provided. If you could send an email to enquiries@earcandylive.co.uk, the team can look into this for you.

We had the best wedding being with DJ Damo. He played all the music we wanted and got everyone up dancing. Ear candy let us down but Damo stepped in and made our day! Thanks again
