Mara was great to deal with
Helpful, friendly and kind chat Early Settler representative, Mara. Was easy to deal with. Was patient with some mistakes I made.
No refunds, No credits, No exchanges. Be careful.
I purchased 4 dining stools on sale. I brought them home to find out they are not dining stools, they are outdoor bar stools and are so high they don't fit under our kitchen counter. I got told there would be no refunds or even a credit toward four bar stools that could fit. I am now stuck with 4 stools that are so high our legs touch our counter.
I know companies have policies, however these can be applied within reason. They potentially could have made a larger sale and follow up sales from me if they had allowed us to exchange for kitchen stools.
Very dissapointed in their customer service. I will not be shopping there again.
Misleading Stock information and unethical cancellation policy
I recently purchased a swivel chair online from Early Settler, which was clearly advertised as in stock and ready for delivery. After placing my order, I heard nothing for several days and had to follow up myself — only to be told that the chair actually needed to be shipped from elsewhere and would take around 10 days just to reach their Auburn warehouse.
This is completely misleading to customers who believe they’re purchasing an item that’s ready to go. When I requested a refund, as I couldn’t wait that long, I was told I would be charged a 20% cancellation fee — even though the delay was entirely due to their false advertising.
This practice feels unethical and unfair. Customers should not be penalised for a company’s lack of transparency. If the true stock status and delivery timeframe had been clear upfront, I would never have placed the order. Early Settler needs to be honest about product availability, stop misleading consumers and give me my refund back!

Anisa was wonderful to deal with. We asked for a delayed delivery date and she ran through the process with me. I will now have a beautiful table and chairs for our new home arriving just when we do.
My experience with Early Settler has been a hassle
My experience with Early Settler has been mostly a big hassle! My flat pack arrived incomplete and the missing parts were order over a week ago and I still don't have them, The parts seem to be lost now. No, I won't shop here again
Terrible experience with early setters…
Terrible experience with early setters shop Frankston and Narre Warren. We have ordered a wooden carved stool from Frankston store and were told we can collect from Narre Warren store which is close to our home. However, we haven’t received any call after a week and when we checked with Narre Warren store, we get a rude response stating that the warehouse didn’t deliver and asked us yo drive to keysborough to collect the item. The next day we get a call from the store where we purchased asking us to come back to collect an item on display as the warehouse has a broken item. Looks like they are playing with customers and don’t care about customer service. Zero trust worthy business and would never return for any subsequent purchases with early setters.
Anisa was very helpful
Anisa was very helpful and gave me great advice and answered all my questions.
Dodgy Business Tactics
This company's shipping prices are daylight robbery. For a small table lamp and a couple of small cushions they charge $69 for shipping with a 6 week delivery time. I only live in the Waikato! I queried this with customer service and they said that was a normal price for shipping. Where the hell are you getting your shipping quotes from? I would not be surprised if Early Settler is starting to go down the drain due to their dodgy business tactics.
Fantastic delivery service!
Received my order via delivery over two seperate occasions. Both times the delivery service guys were absolutely fantastic. Friendly, polite & great communicators. Was refreshing to see Aussie delivery guys (which sadly is rare these days) - well done Early Settler Melton on supporting true blue Aussie workers.
I WAS a loyal customer for 25 years…
I WAS a loyal customer for 25 years ago, but after receiving a pantry costing $2,648 which was described as having 'sleek white finish' that 'you will love', but in reality has a bare, patchy coat of white primer and the finish 'rough' to touch, especially on shelf surfaces , such that it is unsuitable for food storage let alone display in my home, I won't be ordering again from Early Settler. I'm horrified. Loyalty has its limits. I have a beautiful, well crafted colonial bookcase which I purchased from them in the mid 90s and still stands proudly in my lounge. I marvel at the finish every time I wipe it down and admire it's beautiful and functional design, and that's what prompted my purchase of the kitchen larder pantry, but it's nothing like the craftsmanship and finish on the bookcase.
I was also misled when placing the order. The item was listed as 'in stock and ready to deliver', but didn't mention that doesn't apply to WA customers, only eastern states customers, and there's a 2-3 week delay for delivery to WA. I chose Early Settler is because I believed it was a LOCAL WA company, and I could get the pantry within 1-2 days. It was only after I received my order confirmation email that I was advised of the 2-3 week delay.
I then rang the phone number listed online. I suspect it is to an off-shore call centre. The agent refused to give me the direct phone number and address of a local store here in WA - she said she 'can't give me that' and 'can only put me through'. Very odd.
I went to the 'store locator' page at the website, and although the words were very reassuring - it said 'not sure where the nearest Early Settler Furniture store is? No Problem. You can use our store locator tool', BUT the store locator tool is MISSING. I alerted them to this in online chat, but never received a reply.
After receiving the panty on 16 Sept, I posted a review of the pantry at the Early Settler website, with photos to alert other customers that the finish is not as stated, but my review has never appeared.
I emailed customer service on 20 Sept about the issue and requested a partial refund in view of the item finish not matching description, and have NEVER RECEIVED a response. However I noted an immediate $300 reduction in the advertised online price.
It's so important to be up-front and transparent, and to communicate with customers ordering items online. I thought I could trust Early Settler but this is not the case. I don't know if Early Settler online is a separate company or what. I have even wondered if Early Settler online is an off-shore company using the Early Settler name. When I was 'put through', it seemed the agent had simply transferred the call and not informed the person answering about my query (at that stage trying to establish if there was a pantry in stock in any WA store).
The whole experience has put me off ever buying from Early Settler again. It's a shame because they do have unique furniture, it just doesn't (in the case of my pantry) have the craftmanship and finish of bygone years, and although I found the store staff helpful, the conduct of online customer service is substandard and unethical in my opinion.
ADDITION 5/10/25 - I just discovered my email to them of 20 Sept DIDN'T SEND (I had issues with my PC and internet around then). So at this point they have failed to respond (though they did fail to display my review). I have sent the email today, with photos showing the unfinished state of the pantry, and will update here when I get a response
I’ve been a loyal Early Settler…
I’ve been a loyal Early Settler customer for 25+ years and have had no issues. They stand by their furniture so instead of whinging online contact the store you bought from and they’ll assist. Ballarat ES have been phenomenal. Yesterday it was a rainy cold drizzly day, I was anxious as I’ve never been to Ballarat before and was towing a huge 4 metre truck of an enclosed trailer to collect large items I bought. They were so kind, went above and beyond and one staff stayed behind 15 mins after her shift ended to help me. How sweet was that. I bought a $30,000 sofa afew years ago from a high end luxury store in Sydney and was treated so bad I was in tears. With ES I will never complain as I know I’ll be treated like a million dollar client even tho I bought $10,000 of products for a renovation. What a fabulous experience I’ve had with Early Settler.

I visited the Bendigo store today and the sales assistants were friendly and very helpful. I purchased a lot of furniture and could not fault their customer service. Thank you.
Recently purchased Farrow writing Desk
Recently purchased a Farrow writing desk, and it was of very poor quality. For $400, it had staples stuck on the bottom, and the top had a wood pattern printed on it. If that isn't bad enough, it would always wobble. Do Not Buy!
Helpful customer service
I had a really great experience with early settlers. There was a rug I thought was beautiful and ordered but due to issues on my end I needed to cancel the order. They were really helpful, quick process, i didnt need to jump through any hoops!
Only one star off because delivery to wa is quite delayed, but you get that and atleast they were up front about it
Fantastic service
I inadvertently chose the wrong colour when I ordered. I gave the support team a phone call, my error was rectified in no time. Team member was so helpful and friendly. I will definitely shop again.
Be aware! Read before make decision to purchase - Shockingly poor craftmanship from Early Settler
We are really shocked and disappointed with the poor craftmanship as Early Settler is a big brand and long history and frustrated with the experience with recent purchase.
We went to the Auburn showroom to inspect the display and orded an Armand Large Bookcase in April. After we received two faulty bookcases with visible cracks, dents and paint dripping, and so many defects that we can't even attach all photos in one email. We were really unhappy with the quality as we were expecting a standard quality bookcase like the one we saw in the showroom so we decided to go ahead with a full refund. We waited whole day at home, but no one showed up to take the faulty bookcase. Finally the bookcase got picked up after one week! After the bookcase got returend, we did not receive the full refund! The whole process was so frustrating and time consuming. After more than 2 months, we wasted our time, energy and money and we still have no bookcase.
Terrible customer support.
Terrible customer support.
I recently purchased some ceiling fans and since installation, the lights have constantly flickered and strobed , making them practically unusable. They start flickering almost instantly and flicker/strobe more than they don’t.
Customer support has been unhelpful. It’s been over 2.5 months, and the issue remains unresolved with no solution in sight. It's been over 1 month since last contact and now it is just radio silence.
Hervey Bay, Bens the man to see!
I visited the Hervey Bay store yesterday and was warmly greeted by the salesperson, Ben. He was not only personable but also very knowledgeable. Ben helped me visualize my lounge, transforming it into a cozy space. The selections he introduced were divine, featuring stunning shapes and textures, styles, and designs that left a lasting impression. I was so inspired that I can't wait to return to Hervey Bay Early Settler with my selection and purchase. WELL, DONE, BEN, an extremely happy customer.
