Covent garden mice issu

I’ve always been a fan of Eat Tokyo, and this Covent Garden branch is definitely more spacious and comfortable than their other cramped locations. The food was great as usual—really fresh and authentic. The service wasn’t anything special, but the staff seemed super busy so it was understandable.

However, we had a really upsetting experience. My husband saw three mice in the men’s toilets and reported it to the staff immediately. It made us feel incredibly uneasy for the rest of the meal; if they are in the toilets, you can’t help but wonder where else they are. It’s such a shame because the food is lovely, but we probably won't be returning to this branch after that.

never going there again

unbelievably unwelcoming and unfriendly 'manager'. i had a table booked for 6.30pm, 2x people. I travelled a long way and arrived early... 19 minutes early. The place was perhaps max 20% already occupied, plenty of empty tables all around. Greeted by a friendly waiting person, I explained I was early and asked could I sit down and have some tea til my friend arrived. They went off to confer with a much older man who then came over to talk to me. You have booked? yes, 2x people at 6.30pm. Then go away and come back at 6.30pm with your friend. Can't i sit down and have some tea, from the menu. No we dont want people waiting. I looked around at all the empty tables, saw the few sitting people there looking at this going on with shocked open mouths, and i said er ... ok ... and left. Outside I called my friend and said I am not spending my money in that place so instead we went to Rokkon in Chiswick and spent the £80 odd there, welcoming, friendly, accommodating (we of course had no booking), and great food. I know the food is very good at Eat Tokyo but the manager's special flavouring makes it taste very sour. Avoid i would say, for sure I never will go there again. Your loss Eat Tokyo, a little politeness goes a long way. oh by the way I am an old age pensioner, we tend generally to try to arrive early for things.

After a matinee in Shaftesbury Avenue…

After a matinee in Shaftesbury Avenue about 10 days ago I walked down to Old Compton Street armed with a menu from the CATHERINE Street branch.
I walked in and saw other menus. The hostess said each branch differs slightly and she kindly sat me down and gave me an updated menu.
Whilst I was deciding what to order as a takeaway she brought me some deliciously hot jasmine tea, no charge. I then made my order, paid for it and waited. It was mainly cold with a couple of hot items.
I asked if she could pack it tightly as it was coming on a train with me.
I’m so sorry that I didn’t get her name, she was slightly older than most of the staff with short dark hair. She was very kind, very professional and absolutely charming.
A BIG thank you. I should have left a tip, my apologies, I will next time.
The food, as always, was beautiful. I’ve no idea how they do it for the price but it’s a quarter of what I’d pay in Nobu or similar, and in my opinion, better. I’ll be back with my family in tow, hopefully this coming weekend.

Double thumbs up

Genuinely would come here again (Soho branch), the sashimi was delicious, melt in your mouth... Although rice portion was slightly overwhelming I do believe that this was a very filling and satisfying meal, very healthy! Don't listen to the 1 star reviews... the food was yummers ;P and the price was really good AND the atmosphere was fantabulous. Double thumbs up 👍👍

I WANT MY SERVICE CHARGE BACK,Eat Tokyo SOHO!??

We always visit this Eat Tokyo at Soho, really rare had issues happened. The food and value are always great, good price. Unfortunately, we went yesterday afternoon and ordered more than usual ( see the photo at the Google reviews I left), so the two seat table was quite out of the space. Asked if we could have a bigger table to transfer as I saw the other bigger size table with 4 seat had just come available. Got told( that's right, felt got told off) are there any more food coming? Even he saw how crowded of our table,he still said that and reluctantly said we have more customers waiting outside, that table was needed. I kindly answered: "please, can you see it's quite crowded and uncomfortable eating like this. "Got ignored,I could only accept and apology to my friend who visited Eat Tokyo for first time. Very bad impression I suppose. (Untill we finished the meals, the table I wish to transfer to was still available, empty, zero customer.)
"Amazingly", after paid the bill and got back,I realised I was charged 12% service charge!?!?? I should have checked the bill before I paid. I didn't get the good service i should have. EAT TOKYO SOHO. I WANT MY SERVICE CHARGE BACK!!!

There are 2 Eat Tokyo restaurants in…

There are 2 Eat Tokyo restaurants in Golders Green, one on the Finchley Road was not the good at all, the service was extremely rude, the faces of the staffs are like dropping horse face, like some one just slapped them on the face.
I should give them no star!
A glass of warm water that they charge for 30 pence, a port of green tea is not allowing to refill in, a take away box charge for 50 pence.
Don't go there, you will feeling regret.
One opposite the tube station was 100 percent better then the one just around conner by Finchley Road.

‼️BE CAREFUL with OVERCHARGE‼️

‼️BE CAREFUL with OVERCHARGE‼️
My experience was in SOHO branch.
We ordered a £45 sashimi boat but they gave us the expensive one without letting us know! When we were ordering, we pointed on the menu, and verbally checked with the waitress that we wanted the £45 one.

But they gave us the wrong one, and the problem is the picture on the menu would never be match with the real food because of the availability of the fish! So, we ate the sashimi boat and we thought it was £45 the whole time since that was the one we wanted!

When we were having the bills, it showed that it's £62.8 for the sashimi boat! And the restaurant refused to change the price. We felt like we were FORCED to have a more expensive food but it would never be customer's responsibility for wrong food delivered or wrong order made by the staff!
Very disappointing experience!

And never let the staff to help you split the bills because they did that WRONG as well!

Terrible Service at Eat Tokyo in Covent Garden

This branch of Eat Tokyo in Covent Garden is very disappointing. Went there Thursday night and service was terrible. While our food were getting served, they dropped a part of food fell on the floor. And they put no effort to compensate us until we had to ask for it. Other than that, we also had to ask for the miso soup because they didn't serve it even after all the other food were served(other branches normally serve the soup first). Terrible service where we had to constantly ask for what we paid for.

They did not clarify how they gonna compensate for the food until serving bento box on our table. After the replacement food, it only stayed on table for few minutes before manager(assuming because his outfit was different. He wore a black suit) himself came to take back the food saying it don't belong to us. We tried explaining it but he was already taking it out in our table and then came back few minutes later bringing back same food saying it's a mistake without saying sorry to us. Like it is absolutely unprofessional and it was ruining the mood. It feels like they all don't talk to each other and no teamwork or communication whatsoever. The manager was making the scene and the other customers started staring at us. It was very uncomfortable for us. It just ruined our appetite and most of us (3 out of 4) didn't even finish our food.

So we asked to take the service charges off but they ask for the reason which we give it. And then the manager come and ask the reason again, so we had to repeat the same reason again ,after explaining to the manager we thought everything was fine since he left but no, another staff member asked us again and the manager joined this staff to interrogate us Like what's this????? Putting pressure on us in the group? Do they not talk to each other and have no teamwork? Their attitude towards the customers are very unprofessional and rude. These staff should be reevaluated and embarrassing to proudly put their self as an employee of the month when basic handling of situations like this can’t even be fixed professionally. Asking for the reason not once not twice but 3 times which we gave already and repeating it. I thought service charges are optional. Not the mention the staff was so aggressive in asking for reason too and his last santance was "it's only £6 anyway". Like WOW, their attitude and service are very outstanding. Also we ordered bottled water instead of tap water, so £6 isn't a problem for us either. Yeah I don't care if "it's only £6 anyway" because the service here don't worth a cent.
- attitude from the staff
- manager joining in with the aggressive staff
You think re-serving the food that fell down make up your service? No.
1st we had to ask for it.
2nd: it is what we paid for. You dropped the food which we paid for.
3rd: we didn't even finish your food.

Service: 0/5
Food: 2/5 (taste mediocre(we didn't finish it), not sure if it's because of chefs or waiters outstanding service)

We been to other eat tokyo often, and they have been professional and food are nice. But this branch have no teamwork and very unprofessional. Terrible experience.

They smashed my birthday cake and didn't event bother to tell me and brought the cake with the candle in the table.

On the 26th of January I went to celebrate my daughter's birthday in Eat Tokyo in Covent Garden. We brought a cake to the venue and after we ate the food we asked for the cake. The cake arrived completely smashed; so smashed that I couldn't even recognize it was my cake. All the decorations were gone and it was all broken. First, no one had the courage, to be honest, to come to me and explain what happened before hand. They brought the cake in these horrible conditions in front of everyone in the venue and made my daughter (who just turned 13) cry as she didn't have any cake to take a picture with. We don't have any pictures taken because of the horrible service we received. Not only did they pretend nothing had happened but also no one apologized to us until the moment when I asked to talk to the manager. The manager, as well, pretended not to know anything and continued to say "I don't know what happened". First, this cake cost me £60, Second, when we asked for the box of the cake to bring home, the box was as well completely ruined. They put the tissues inside and they tried to fix it with sellotape. I have to say that we ate the cake in the venue but now I doubt the cake was clean (where did it fell? no one ensured me it fell on a clean surface). When I came back home the box smelled of fish, and this was a sign that the box was probably being thrown in the bin or cleaned with dirty kitchen clothes; Then when we asked for it, they cleaned it and gave it back to us to put a cake that we would eat again. Where is the hygiene here? What type of customer service is this? This is just inhumane and disgusting. I'm now worried for my daughter and my family's health as your staff put us at risk of contracting diseases when they gave me a box that wasn't safe to use again. In all that I had to pay the whole bill. Didn't even bother to take away the price of the cake. They didn't even take away the service charge after this poor service. I refuse to pay for the service charge at the end. This has been so far one of the worst experience I had. I contacted the company yesterday night and today again but no one has replied yet.

H’Smith location - Contrary to some of the poor review..

Contrary to some of the poor reviews, our experience was quite the reverse. The veg tempura bento box was very filling and the salad dressing was especially nice. The salmon/chicken bento my friend had was flavourful and a healthy portion. The service was excellent and friendly - will be returning soon. It was very thoughtful of them to give the patrons a reusable cup for coffee etc. as a Xmas/New Year’s gift.
Tables and floor were clean. Nothing to complain about.

As a regular at Eat Tokyo for over…

As a regular at Eat Tokyo for over seven years, I'm really gutted to say that my latest experience at the Golders Green branch this evening was so bad, it's put me off coming back.

We ordered a sashimi boat, and the quality was well below par. The salmon seemed to be a cheap cut from the tail, making it really chewy. The seabass still had blood in it. Also, the boat was sticky. It looked like it hadn't been cleaned properly before it was brought to our table.

I spoke to the manager about it, and she was quite dismissive. She kept insisting that the salmon was top-notch, but I'm not convinced. She even admitted the boat was sticky but didn't seem to think it was a big deal. It felt like she wasn't really listening to our concerns. We ended up paying and leaving most of the boat uneaten. Through all this, no one else came to check if everything was okay with our meal. Honestly, it was the worst experience I've ever had at Eat Tokyo, or any Japanese restaurant for that matter. The customer service was miles away from what you'd expect.

Covent Garden branch

Covent Garden branch. Tasty food but poor service including forcing a table of 6 to only pay via 1 card and leaving used plates on table even though we'd ordered ice cream, encouraging us to leave. Dissapointed as i have been going to eat tokyo for 10 years

My favourite Japanese restaurant chain…

My favourite Japanese restaurant chain in London - Covent Garden, Bond St and Golders Green are all great locations, with tonnes of choice offering great quality food at really reasonable prices.
The people are all lovely, really quick service and accommodating for take-aways too! I recommend Salmon Jyu as fantastic sashimi which comes with miso soup included, at a reasonable cost (for Central London).

Staff lacked proper training...

Staff lacked proper training...
Initially excited by the food but it was quickly ruined by poor communication with our waiter. We tried to clearly communicate our needs but felt that the waiter was very confrontational and insisted that we were wrong. As such, we finished as quickly as possible since the experience was no longer enjoyable.

Repulsive experience

The waiters were very rude and arrogant at the Soho branch. One waiter scoulded and was aggressive towards us when we tried to help him place the food on our table, was told not to touch our order. Another waiter blamed us for his mistake by giving us the wrong order; insisting he was in the right when he was evidently wrong. The waitress serving the table next to us was rushing them to leave, handing them the bill even when they hadn't asked for it and ushered them out. The food was alright but the overall atmosphere was ruined by the staff. They add a 12.5% service charge for an absolutely appalling customer service experience. Won't be returning.

I recently dined at Eat Tokyo

I recently dined at Eat Tokyo, Hammersmith with colleagues and unfortunately, I must say that our experience left much to be desired. From the moment we walked in, it was evident that the service was going to be a major issue.

The most disappointing aspect of the evening was the rude behavior of the manager. Rather than addressing the issues with the service, she seemed more interested in rushing customers out the door to turn over tables quickly. This created a sense of discomfort and pressure throughout the meal, making it impossible to relax and enjoy our dinner.

To make matters worse, when we tried to express our concerns to the manager, she was dismissive and unapologetic. It was clear that customer satisfaction was not a priority for her.

As for the food, it was mediocre at best, and given the overall poor experience, it was hard to appreciate any positive aspects of the meal.

In conclusion, I cannot recommend Eat Tokyo Hammersmith, based on my recent visit. The combination of poor service, a rude manager, and an overall rushed atmosphere made for a disappointing dining experience. I hope the restaurant takes customer feedback seriously and makes improvements to ensure a more enjoyable visit for future patrons.
