Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Evaluating 63 reviews, most reviewers were unhappy with their experience overall. Customers frequently complained about unexpected extra charges, hidden fees, and mandatory insurance costs that dramatically increased the initial price beyond what was originally quoted. People also experienced very poor customer service, unhelpful desk agents, long waiting times, and frustrating vehicle availability issues upon arrival. Some reviewers were happy with the friendly staff and efficient service provided by certain helpful team members during their trips. A few other people also felt that the initial daily rental rates were affordable and appreciated having convenient offsite shuttle options available. Visitors noted that the vehicles were generally easy to access from nearby locations.

José is always a huge help

José is always a huge help! Some of the best customer service, very friendly. We usually talk to him whenever we rent a car in San José and pretty much always use Economy Rent a Car now.

Priceline rates don’t apply here LAX

Went online because I needed a car for one day. I live in Long Beach but best price showed renting out of LAX via Priceline/economy rent a car $20 for one day. CDW $13.99. On the day of the rental I took public Transportation from LB to LAX not easy to do if you’ve ever been to LA. Nearly 3 hours to LAX. Upon arrival waiting in line was another hour. At the counter I gave the customer service my name and drivers lic. He preceded to go down the list of prices that were much more then what I was given on my reservation booking. Economy price $30.99 per day and CDW $30.99 also.
$500 deposit. The rental cost was $101.00. I told the rep.that I booked through Priceline at much cheaper rate and the Rep. said that I was given the wrong price with Priceline. Since I had invested 4 hours into this ordeal I accepted their terms. I contacted Priceline about this. They called economy to find out why they didn’t honor Priceline’s rate and economy stated that I signed the rental agreement with the higher price. Bottom line. Price line is doing an investigation. 10 day process for possible refund if approved. $101 for 1 day rental is bull.Be aware if you book through Priceline and Economy rent a car the actual cost will be much higher then the reserved price. Company doesn’t honor discounts offered by discount companies.

Bait and Switch

I rented a car through Priceline. The deal was awesome, so I was expecting the upcharge sales pitch at the counter. I turned down all coverages as I provided my full coverage information. Then I was told I couldn’t rent the car unless I bought their insurance because I was missing uninsured motorist property damage. I called my insurance and they never heard a rental company asking for this. So, I said add it to my insurance and email it to me. The counter person said no, it has to be in effect for 45 days prior. Which is a total lie. If I had added it before going to the counter, they would not have see any dates next to the coverage page. So, this is just an excuse to get you to buy their coverage. As I was talking to my insurance person I saw two other customers who were forced to buy insurance or not get a car. One left, the other paid up. I decided to not give them my business. I went back to the main terminal and rented another car from a reputable agency a little cheaper than their price with insurance. I just would not give Economy rental car the satisfaction of getting my business. A last note, after the last person left without renting the counter person started laughing at them. I saw this from a distance as I was talking to my insurance agent.

Zero stars is not an option

Zero stars is not an option. Long story short..this company is NOT located in the Charlotte Airport as they have you believe. Person who answered the phone was unprofessional and attempted to school me on the definition of ground transportation. Never sent a driver and stopped answering the phone. Also passed by another group who kept calling and receiving the voice mail. Went with a reputable company that's actually AT THE AIRPORT.

THE NIGHTMARE NEVER ENDS

If you plan to rent a car in Costa Rica, trust me, don't do it with economy car unless you want to lose a lot of money! They are scammers! We had such an awful experience that we want to avoid it to other persons.
First, we booked online our car and took basic rate. But when we came to pick your car up, we were forced to contract additional "insurances" to pay at the desk (that are not true insurances but services to reduce your excess to 950$, it costs about 300USD for 2 weeks to get the minimum service).

Few days later, we were unlucky enough to have a coconut fall on our windscreen and broke it when we were parked in the hotel car park. We contacted economy to get help and they told us to wait for the insurance company to draw up a report (we lose at least 2 hours waiting for him). Then we had to go to an economy agency to change the car. Once arrived, we had to pay the full excess (950USD) plus 13% tax, making a total of 1070 USD. What a pleasure. Still, you are told to consider yourself lucky because you have this reduced excess, otherwise it would have cost you much more!
Having clients dealing with your own insurance company (who will refund Economy the full price btw) and making them pay 1300USD, what a fruitful business model! It's fraudulent. They make a lot of money off tourists.
And the cherry on the cake : we just recieved an e-mail of economy today that inform us that they had a breach on their system and their customers' bank details "were accessed by third parties".
How much will we lose this time due to Economy? I immediatly blocked my credit card but we are still travelling abroad and now we are really in trouble ... I wish the money they stole us will enable them to improve their security management...

If you have only one piece of advice to take away with you, RUN AWAY !!!
