Ive phoned 4 times now

Ive phoned 4 times now. When you do get through you go to a queue no. It takes ages to speak to someone. If you can wait that long. Wouldn't mind but it's them that owes me money. Lol. When I did get through to speak to someone he just said it's a bad line can't hear you, you'll have to ring back. Thanks for your help but I think I'll get a debt collector to get it off you. .why don't you just send me a cheque.

Hatred is too mild a term

If there was a stronger word than hatred to demonstrate a dislike of a business, then I would use it. I have such a loathing for this company. It's the consistently horrid customer service, their inability to do anything other than keep you hanging on the phone racking up a phone bill, transferring you and never getting a proper answer. Their huge delays in responding and the bad 'work from home worker' phone signal they always blame on the caller. None of them say they can help; only that they can't help. It's like they are trained to wind up customers on purpose. Horrid horrid company.

** CROOKS **

It’s time the FCA made these cowboys accountable. They are crooks and I’m annoyed that I probably didn’t read the small print when I took out a second charge on our home (which to my mind means that we were MIS-SOLD). The original loan was for £50k, not a fortune. We’ve been paying £450+ PER MONTH FOR 19 YEARS. Applied for a redemption figure (JULY 2025) and they say we still owe £33,000! How the heck can that be?

Now I’ve written this review, and read others with the same experience, I am going to refer the matter to the FCA. They’re crippling us 😡

Avoid Elderbridge – Incompetent and Unreliable!

I have been requesting a settlement statement from Elderbridge since December 2024, and despite calling them five times, I still haven’t received it! Each time, I am told that the statement has been generated, yet it never arrives.

When I asked them to send it via secure email or provide proof of delivery, they refused, stating they were unable to do so. This is completely unacceptable, especially for a financial institution handling customer accounts.

I was assured multiple times that the statement had been posted—most recently on February 14, 2025—yet here I am, still waiting. Meanwhile, my mortgage balance keeps changing due to additional payments, forcing me to request yet another statement.

Elderbridge’s customer service is appalling, and their handling of this matter has been frustrating beyond belief. I am now left with no choice but to escalate my complaint to the Financial Ombudsman.

Judging by the many other negative reviews, my experience is not unique. If you’re considering dealing with Elderbridge, think twice—their incompetence and disregard for customers will only cause unnecessary stress and frustration.

Avoid at all costs!

Debt paid

Would go zero stars but unable to, been paying this extortionate company for 25 years, loan for 50k over 25yrs, had a few issues years ago so ended up with 10k arrears, they don't care about your situation they just want your money or your house, of which they threaten quite often, anyway got back on my feet and paid more than the contractual amount for years, before I knew it the debt was falling, every penny I could afford i put to the debt, I have now just paid the very last payment to get these robbing bast*rds off my back, I have been through years of hell with threats, phone calls, letters, but no more..I cannot explain how this feels, it is more than lifting the weight of the world off my shoulders, I genuinely do not know how the staff who work there sleep at night, I know people will say it is people's responsibility to pay there debt, but i guarantee nobody who took a loan out with first plus imagined their loan would be taken over by elderbridge, then constantly have the interest raised, making payments harder to keep up with, even though the bank of England rate was at its lowest, i have my life back, never give up guys, ever!! Oh and I have no hidden interest which is something else they do regularly, so when you think you have paid this off you may not have, be aware, phone the number and you can get your balance and arrears without speaking to any of the window lickers, you just need account number and contractual monthly payments, the rest is self explanatory.

Poorly run debt collection agency

I owe just £18K now and this is suppressed interest, I have put in a Freedom of Information request to understand how much this company bought the debt from First Plus and they have ignored the requests. We are now having them investigated by the FCA as they are an unscrupulous debt collection agency who will not allow emails as they know that this is an audit trail and they hide behind poorly written letters.

Disgusting company with automatons as so call customer service staff, who threaten with no legal training.

When the interest rate changed by 25%…

When the interest rate changed by 25% we had no letter to reduce our payments as we normally did, I rang to question and was told I had to raise a complaint, which I did. letter came after about two weeks, they needed longer to investigate. Now I had three letter in my post today, all three from Elderbridge, first one opened addressed to Mr and Mrs telling me they still need more time maybe unto 4weeks. Next letter addressed to me saying rate had gone down by 48p. JOKE. When we owed more in June 23 the payment was 218.39. today balance is less and they want 220.29. JOKE they have now idea how to work out payments, makes me wonder if they have had it right from the start, we got transferred to these and had no choice.

Can anyone tell me how to actually…

Can anyone tell me how to actually speak to this company ? You can’t call only if you have an acc with them. And they don’t respond to emails due to security.
I just need to speak to someone as there is a charge on my mums house and no idea what its for. All I want is it clarifying.
Mum has dementia so can’t tell me.

Profits before people, be aware!

What went wrong?
Is the first question seen when starting to write this review.
Should that read what went right?
Unbelievably, this multi-million £ corporation dismisses my claim for a repayment mistake of their making because I didn't realise it immediately.
I was successful in reclaiming mis-sold PPI, so far no issues. What I didn't understand until too late, was my repayments should have also dropped as I was no longer purchasing the PPI. So I approached this £££££ company for an adjustment. Their reply amounted to "too late moosh". Rip off Britain at its finest.
If you have to use this company, be aware people they are not on your side, only the side of profit.

Avoid

Received a letter from elderbridge to provide proof of me being out of pocket for a mistake caused by elderbridge and in the letter they said they will put me back into the financial situation I was in before they made the mistake. I sent over the proof via email over 7 weeks ago now and nothing back. I have requested a call from a manager but didn’t receive one. I’ve called them several times and emailed 3 times but can’t seem to get any quick resolution for my query and I’m still out of pocket.

ZERO NIL NUL NOLLA SUFURI

I blame Barclays and FirstPlus for selling their portfolio to Elderbridge which is a subsidiary of Target Group. Carol Volderman had originally recommended Firsplus Loans to the public. The UK public had so much trust in her at the time but her TV campaign was utterly misleading. Elderbridge is a ruthless company; they often ignored my enquiries and blamed me for their non-transparent interest rates. Their complaints department is a joke.

Crooks?

Recently received a letter from them regarding a previous tenant in our property, and their loan, and charge over our property.
At great cost to us our solicitor involved to write to them and advise they had the wrong information, and the previous tenant should never have used our property as security.
They have not even had the decency to reply to our solicitor.
This has cost us a lot of money and is actually nothing to do with us. But the bit that hurts is that
1. If I call them I can’t speak to them because I am not the person who had the loan, no matter that addressed their letters to our property
2. That they did not have the common decency to reply to the many solicitors letters sent.
It stinks that we are out of pocket and all because a previous tenant in the property we now own used our address as security.
