In general, I found Envato pretty good for sourcing imagery and videos for our Agency. But I am afraid I have to give them a poor review because their search always returns "diverse" individuals eve... See more

I've been charged after cancellation
I've been charged after cancellation. Getting in touch with them is beyond complicated as you need to find a hidden form that doesn't actually provide you with the options you need. No chance of actually talking to anyone.
I Tried to Help - Got Penalized Instead
I've been a premium subscriber to Envato Elements for several consecutive years. Recently I identified a technical issue in a WordPress theme I had downloaded through Envato Elements. Wanting to help not just myself but other users, I took the time to document the problem and submit a support ticket, hoping this would lead to a quick fix and an improved experience for everyone.
What happened next was surprising: the theme author fixed the issue—but only on ThemeForest, and then completely removed the theme from Envato Elements. When I asked Envato support why the author wasn’t asked to upload the updated version back to Elements, the "Envato Customer Success Officer" told me they couldn’t dictate what the author should do.
So in short, I tried to help improve the platform. Instead, I lost access to a theme I was actively using and got told that nothing could be done. The issue got resolved—but only for pay-per-download customers on ThemeForest, not for loyal subscribers like me.
It felt like I went out of my way to help, but got penalized in return. And ironically, the "Customer Success Officer" only made me feel more unsuccessful.
I hope Envato seriously considers how it handles support, communication with authors, and fairness toward long-term subscribers. Because right now, it feels like loyalty isn’t valued.
Beware – Broken and Outdated Themes Still Being Sold
I recently bought a WordPress theme from ThemeForest (Envato) that turned out to be completely broken and insecure.
On activation it produced fatal PHP errors because core functions were missing, and it relied on KingComposer Pro - a page builder plugin that was removed from WordPress.org in 2022 for security vulnerabilities and is no longer available for download.
Envato initially refused a refund, citing their “no refunds on digital products” rule, but after I provided detailed evidence and quoted their own refund policy, they eventually agreed.
However, months later I checked back and the theme is still being sold exactly as before - and when I tried to warn others in the product’s comments section, my comments were deleted within 24 hours.
This is deeply concerning. It means:
Buyers are gambling on whether a theme actually works
There is no effective moderation or quality control
Negative feedback is silenced, giving a false impression of quality
Most buyers aren’t developers - they can’t diagnose these problems or fix them. They trust the platform to sell working products. Right now, that trust is misplaced.
ThemeForest may once have been reliable, but I won’t be using it again, and I strongly urge others to be very cautious when buying from this marketplace.
Gone are the days where Themeforest…
Gone are the days where Themeforest used to be the number one. Now - after years of this truly lacking in social and customer service awareness situatio involving a person named David - I still feel the disstaste in my mouth.
They do have a problem with refunds and support. I was with them for... 13 years? Dropped off 3 years ago after a decade, after some drama.
I wouldn't recommend this platform.
* I just read the newer reviews. I'm right - this company has gone down. Oh well. Worse than I thought!
Misleading Pricing – Charged Annual Instead of Monthly
I signed up for Envato Elements thinking it was $16.50/month, clearly shown on the pricing page. I only needed it for one month and canceled the same day. Instead of being charged monthly, Envato billed me $198 upfront for a so-called annual plan – even though there was no clear mention of annual billing on the checkout page.
To make it worse, they refused a refund because I downloaded files, even though their advertising says “unlimited downloads.” This is deceptive: you cannot advertise unlimited access and then punish customers for using it.
This feels like fraud and misrepresentation. Be very careful before subscribing – their pricing is not transparent and customer support is unhelpful.
Disabled Account With No Warning
I've used Envato for years. I just tried to log on to my account and received a message that my account has been disabled. I can't access the files I had purchased!
When I contacted customer support I was told "Envato maintains a set of internal and confidential policies, and your account was disabled in in line with those.
Unfortunately, as is the case with many organisations, we have several internal policies that we are unable to disclose for business reasons."
I find it very odd (and shady) that I received no emails or warnings that my account was somehow breaking Envato's terms and conditions. My only action on their site had been purchasing WP themes and video plugins and downloading them to use.
And I find it odd that they can’t reinstate my account or give me any information as to why it was disabled.
I assume my account was hacked. But I will never know...
Absolutely disgraceful
Absolutely disgraceful. It states on their website that you can also pay monthly. They took a whole years worth of subscriptions and then refused to refund me the rest of the months. I only wanted a couple of videos. Stay completely away from this platform. What a joke. Going through PayPal to get my money back.
I want to share my personal experience…
I want to share my personal experience as a buyer on Envato (CodeCanyon/ThemeForest) so that others can make informed decisions before purchasing.
I purchased two products:
GORIDE | InDriver Clone | Flutter Complete Taxi Booking Solution with Bidding Option
Goldium – Jewelry Store WooCommerce Theme
Here’s what happened:
After buying GORIDE, I created my own brand name which was not included in the original product. Later, I discovered that another buyer was publishing apps using the exact same name. This raises very serious concerns about how customer information and ideas are handled by the author.
I raised this issue with Envato support and escalated it multiple times. Despite my evidence, Envato concluded “no violation” and closed the case.
I attempted to post honest reviews of these items on Envato, but they were removed because the review period had “expired.” As a result, I am unable to warn buyers directly on their marketplace.
⚠️ My warning to other buyers: Be very careful when purchasing. Even if the code works technically, your brand name, app identity, or customer information may not be safe.
Since Envato will not allow my reviews to remain published, I am sharing my experience here publicly so others can protect themselves.

😡I purchased a plugin from Envato PTY called BEAR - WooCommerce Bulk Edit and Products Manager Professional - Products bulk edit for $59.81 USD. However, after failing to make it work on our system, we requested a refund the following day. Unfortunately, Envato promptly refused to process the refund and suggested we first purchase something else before they could give us our money back. We don’t need anything else; this is theft. We are based in South Africa, so the loss is significant due to the exchange rate. Shame on you. 😡

absolute terrible company
absolute terrible company. Back in 2023 I purchased the subscription just to have my account falsely flagged and locked in less than an hour. I contacted support, honestly jumped through too many loops to cancel my subscription. They never refunded me and recently I figured out they never canceled the subscription. They charged me in total, 3 years for a blocked account that I can't even access. What company makes it near impossible to cancel your subscription and even worse, randomly flags accounts with no way to fight it? A fraudulant company.
What a Pathetic Services they have
What a Pathetic Services they have, I have made 6 accounts and trying to purchase there basic package through my 6 different credit cards and reach customer services , they said they resolved but can't sign in from our own account. they can not accept payment.
Envato doesn’t care about its customers.
Envato doesn’t care about its customers. It’s been 15 days, and the theme seller hasn’t responded. I requested a refund, but there’s still no response—even from Envato. Worst company ever. Don’t buy themes from Envato—it feels like a scam.
ImaGen by Envato is on top of my daily tools
Envato's ImageGen has helped me streamline my creative work in editing videos for YouTube and creating unique thumbnails for my clients.
It's intuitive and very easy to use.
I'm just really disappointed in the…
I'm just really disappointed in the AI-generator of images and videos. You can't create a video longer than 8 seconds and the images feel incredibly AI. For the cost of the subscription and the ads that they run, showing a minute long video that's really well built, it feels like a complete bait and switch.
You don't get what you pay for.
You cannot enjoy the rights you are supposed to enjoy due to the license you fully paid for. When you try to resolve the issue, nothing gets resolved. That is literally a scam. Not going to reccomend or buy again.
Waste of Money – No Refund, No Support, Just the Runaround
I bought three themes from Envato/ThemeForest — spent nearly $200 — and it’s been nothing but a nightmare for almost two weeks now. Broken themes, outdated code, and zero accountability. Their support keeps kicking the can down the road with copy-paste responses, telling me to fill out forms that don’t even work.
No refund. No real help. Just stall tactics.
Thank God for companies like ThemeMonster — they actually care about their clients. Unlike this dumpster fire of a marketplace, ThemeForest is just a money grab with no customer service. Save your money and your sanity — go elsewhere.

Disgusting greedy corporation that uses false advertisements saying its unlimited for all then rejects a refund even though thats a legitimate reason for a charge back
I have never used their services and was charged
I have never used their services and learned about them when they charged me. I still didn't get any reply regarding this issue.
