I would give 0 stars if that was an option!!

I would give 0 stars if that was an option! DO NOT EVER OPT FOR EUROPCAR!!! Biggest scam ever! Rented the car for 12 days in July 2025. We paid for the car in full at the desk, Informed the agent at pick up from Munich airport that we were doing a road trip from Munich through Switzerland, Italy, Austria and dropping off the car back in Munich. We specifically asked if we needed to be aware of any rules or guidelines as it was our first time driving in Europe to which we were told we only have to pay the tolls and buy the Swiss and Austrian vignettes to use the highways in these countries which we did. On returning the car, our deposit of €100 was fully refunded a few days later as well. In December(5 months after our trip!),I get an email saying I have not paid cross-border fee to europcar which amounted to about €30, along with reminder fees for €25 and processing fees apparently, which came up to about €65. Despite many failed attempts to reach them over the phone, and leaving messages trying to clarify what these fees were via their website and writing emails, there was no response to them while I kept getting reminder emails with the fees increasing every time. If there was a cross border fee, why was it not taken off my deposit? Why was I being asked for it 5 months later along with processing and reminding fees?!? I had to cc multiple teams from Europcar to get a response!! And they still wanted to me to pay close to €155 now with more reminder fees because apparently the cross border fee was mentioned in the user guidelines (which is a 25 page document!) which is emailed to you during pick up and it was my fault that I trusted their agent with the info he gave me instead of reading the 25 page pdf while I have time constraints on my holiday! Why was I not charged for this at pick up then when I paid in full for the car? After all the back and forth for close to 4 months from the first email from me, they finally waived off the processing and reminder fees but still asked my to pay the cross-border fee of €30. Mentally stressful, exhausting and such a hassle !! Waste of time! The most unpleasant experience ever! Definitely not opting for Europcar ever again!

Charge extra after months for scammy reasons

Disclaimer: Avoid Europcar, since they may charge extra, for certainly scammy reasons, promise wrong things and do not offer any customer service solving their problems.

Everything was fine when we were there at Europcar Visby airport.
However, months later I received an invoice to pay additional money for "after hours".
Because they kinda forgot to charge it when we signed few min late even though arrived (on time!) because the customer before us was slow. The invoice came from non-local Europcar and said we'd need to pay in foreign currency on the day the mail arrived. Beside the ridiculous reasoning, that's not even possible.

Impossible to reach someone at the customer service being responsible for it, after weeks of writing Mails and calls, where I was promised they'll solve the problem, I receive another post-mail from Inkasso. Apparently, all promised solutions did not solve anything, and internally they can't solve their own problems..

Terrible company

Booked a car for a few days at home through discover cars. Went to Glasgow airport to pick up and was through Europcar.

Picking up the car was efficient, it was dark so couldn’t really check the car. Representative said to check car in morning. I set off and luckily I took a video of the car in the morning.

The car was 3 years old which was probably the oldest I have ever recieved from a rental company, windscreen washers did not work. When I returned the car I received an email to say there was damage to a tyre that I was going to get billed for. And showed a picture of a rip.

Luckily when I checked the video I could see the rip.

I contacted customer service and they were shocking. Absolute terrible company to deal with. Ended up getting it sorted but how they did not see the rip on previous return is the question as it was on the side wall.

Luckily I had taken the video or I would be getting charged and looking at the other reviews I would not be surprised if they knew it was there.

So I will definitely be avoiding at all cost moving forward.

Beware. Being stranded is very expensive.

I made a reservation and paid €230. When I arrived in Amsterdam, they told me my debit card wasn't accepted. I didn't notice because they accepted it a year ago. I couldn't pick up the car because they didn't give me any other option; they kept the €320, and I had to rent from the company across the street. Never again Europcar.

They cheat you on the price

1. I rented car through AG EconomyCarRentals. rented car was skoda kamiq. Total price on voucher 18.64eur+235.16eur payable at rental desk.
2. when we came to collect a car, we were offered opel astra. Price in agreement somehow became 313.80eur, it's allready much more than in my voucher. I didn't check price on voucher cause never had an issues with different amounts in any car rental company. If i reserve car for X amount, means i pay this amount. Or i'm wrong?
3. we were with skis, opel astra was to small for us. We returned to rental desk to change opel astra to bigger car and were offered VW Passat wagon. We accepted.
4. europcar employee told us, that we'll be charged 110eur more for a new car. Means i had to pay "payable sum at the desk from voucher" +110eur extra. 235.16eur+110eur. We agree on that. I was provided with new agreement on which Voraussichtlicher Mietbetrag (Rent price) was 490.09eur. I asked about this, and was told that i shouldn't have worries and difference from extra 110eur (on which we agree) and final amount will be returned to me after car return. I trusted europcar words and left office with no worries.
5. after our vacation i returned home and... my credit card was charged 449.22eur instead of agreed voucher price +110eur. Means i paid 449.22eur instead 345.16eur.

And customer service now saying that it's not their fault, they blame economycarrentals. It's ridiculous. Actually i was cheated by europcar. NEVER TRUST THEM

I had a very disappointing experience…

I had a very disappointing experience with Europcar at Fiumicino Airport. I was refused a car despite holding a valid Albanian driving licence and even showing Europcar’s own website, which states that an International Driving Licence is not mandatory.

What is particularly troubling is that at the same desk, with the same staff member, I rented a vehicle last year without any issue. This shows a clear inconsistency in how rules are applied. The staff’s behavior on this occasion was inappropriate and felt discriminatory.

Afterward, Europcar’s online customer service protected the staff instead of addressing the documented facts. As a result, my business trip was interrupted, causing serious problems. I have lost trust in the company and cannot recommend Europcar.

No problems so far

They charged me for an extra day, but when I wrote them an email explaining my case, they refunded me for that day. I have rented cars from many companies, and I would say that Europcar is not the worst choise. No problems so far.

Be prepared to pay more than the agreed price.

The customer service was terrible. The person I dealt with was at best unfriendly and more accurately downright rude. I was charged far more than what was agreed. When I contacted customer services, I was told that they had held an investigation and found in the Companies favour. I will never use this Company again and I urge everyone else to follow suit.

Utter thieves and con artists

This is the most unethical company I have ever dealt with. They tried to upsell me to a larger vehicle and charge me 5x the quoted price. I was there for over an hour and every customer who came in was given a bait and switch.

Ben Gurion airport

Ben Gurion airport
As they advertise their lowest price there, they keep renting when they actually don’t have the car
So people are waiting on line about 1:30-2 hours and then 1-2 hours more to get the car .
They offered $25 for the wait. You can not cancel the deal you will be charged for a day

Make a wise choice - dont rent there

Make a wise choice — do not rent from this company.

They will charge you for every scratch on the vehicle, claiming you caused the damage. Even when this cannot be proven, their terms and conditions are structured so that you are still required to pay.

I am currently involved in a legal dispute over €1,000 for a scratch I did not cause, following a rental that cost only €200.

I would never rent a car from them again and strongly advise others to avoid this company.

Beware of this company

Beware of this company. My experience was far from satisfactory. My company who is a huge customer of europcar booked a car for me for 4 weeks. When I returned the first car after 2 weeks the guy at the drop off said I had damaged the car. This was totally untrue and he showed me a tiny mark on the car door a couple of mm on the edge. You pick these vehicles up from a dark multi storey and there would of been no way I could of seen this mark without a torch. I explained the situation to the person on the desk when I picked up my next car and he said the people who work at the check in don't work for them and he was 99% sure nothing would come of it. To put the icing on the cake the second vehicle they gave me for the next 2 weeks had every panel damaged. Then when I got on the motorway the wheel bearing was that loud I could not here the phone. I am an engineer and know this car was extremely dangerous. I took the car back to the depot in Regensbourg were the guy there took me out in the car and told me this was completely normal. I told him I would not be accepting the car and he was extremely rude. When we got back to the depot the other guy on the desk realised who I worked for and probably knew how big a customer they were and changed it without issue. I have now received a bill for this tiny mark on the door and I'm not happy at all and will be notifying my company

Very shady operatios

Very shady operatios. First I had an insurance thru expedia which they refused and sold me their own for double the price. The car I got had no tread left on the wheels. It punctured in the countyside and they just took the car away and instructed me to take a cab back to Munich 50 kms away. The whole day was wasted. I took a train to be safe on the chance they don’t refund. It has been 45 days and after multiple emails no refund and now they just stopped answering mails. What a crap show!

Europcar are thieves! They just charged my credit card 4000€ for service not provided. Customer service is not helpful and I will have to take legal steps to be reimbursed. Do not book with europcar or they just charged your card unauthorised! Stay away. Worst experience ever!
