I had an exceptional experience at…

I had an exceptional experience at Europcar Munich Airport, together with my family, thanks to Mr. Jahe (Altin). From the moment we arrived, he was professional, attentive, and incredibly helpful. He went above and beyond to ensure that the entire rental process was smooth, efficient, and stress-free.

It’s rare to find someone who genuinely cares about providing excellent customer service, and Mr. Jahe certainly exceeded all expectations. His kindness, patience, and clear communication made a real difference, especially after a long flight with children.

My family and I truly appreciate the support and outstanding service he provided — he is a real asset to the Europcar team. Thank you again, Mr. Jahe!

Europcar Scam ALERT !

Europcar Scam Alert
Here is how it works – give the customer a 3 year old car with 99,000 KMs on the clock. When the customer goes to pick up their car, they are not accompanied by a customer service representative – there is no reassurance that the scammers (Europcar) already know about all the many many scratches. The customer tries to photo all the minor scratches but with such a high mileage car is soon overwhelmed, gives up trying and drives away. On return Daniel Chiroean will pick one of the small but many random scratches on the car and blame you for it. He will then give you an accident report to fill out, which you will refuse as you have not had an accident and have not been responsible for said scratch. His supervisor Marin Mrowka will then back up Daniel’s ridiculous claim.
The customer then looses their 250 Euro Excess – This is THEFT – This cannot be allowed to happen. It must be highlighted on TV and Radio, in Newspapers and online – Europcar need to come clean and stop this SCAM immediately.

Europcar mistakes are ridiculous

Europcar charged my credit card for fuel and currency differences.
Those rentals were fully paid, although those wrong charges generated taxes and currency exchanges in my account.
As anyone can see, the car was returned with an 8/8 fuel tank every time.
I am distraught about those mistakes, and I have already called customer service more than once with no solution.
I have been a loyal customer since 1993, but I am seriously considering ending my Volkswagen contract with Europcar.

THIS IS A DELIBERATE SCAM OPERATION

THIS IS A DELIBERATE SCAM OPERATION
They come in with the best rate showcased on legitimate websites like Kayak. You pay upfront for the discocunted price on the rental. Then they change the dates in the confirmation email: in my case they rolled the dates forward one day.

There is no contact number for redress, only an email. Then the response is that they will get back to you in maybe 7 days. Obviously, too late.

To rebook by modifying the dates you have to pay the full rate again, and they say that the earlier charge will then be rebated within 30 days. Well. as others have found, that's a deliberately staged nightmare. They are in Paris, no legal recourse. And your cc won't reverse or cancel for you: too much bother.

Scammers

I had a terrible experience with Europcar in Cyprus, where I was scammed into paying double the original cost of my five-day rental.

How the Scam Works: Europcar allows you to book a rental using a debit card, but when you arrive, they insist that the damage deposit must be paid with a credit card. If you don’t have one, you’re forced to purchase their overpriced premium insurance—leaving you with no other option.

I explained that other car rental providers in Cyprus accept debit cards for deposits, but it made no difference. To make matters worse, they then required a €100 fuel deposit, which, incredibly, CAN be deposited using a debit card! This contradiction further exposing the manipulation.

I pointed out the irony and the inconsistency but they were determined to push forward with this ripoff. I suspect the desk agents earn a kickback for every premium insurance upgrade, hence the frustration.

As a frequent traveler, I will never use Europcar again, and I strongly warn others to avoid this dishonest practice.

Nice one, Europcar—way to lose a loyal customer!

Dear EconomyBookings and Europcar,

Dear EconomyBookings and Europcar,

I rented a car through EconomyBookings (Booking No. B31963125), and Europcar charged a €300 deposit on my prepaid card. Out of this amount, €95.54 was used for fuel and fuel service. However, despite multiple follow-ups for over six months, the remaining €204.46 has not been refunded.

I have contacted both EconomyBookings and Europcar numerous times (over 50 emails), yet each response restarts the process without a proper resolution. Instead of assisting, I am repeatedly asked to prove that I have not received the refund, which is unacceptable.

I am extremely dissatisfied with both the service and the outcome. Given this experience, I strongly discourage others from using these companies. I urge you to resolve this matter promptly and ensure my refund is processed without further delay.

Poor car rental experience – Hidden Fees, and Unfair Damage Charges

I booked a VW Golf through Booking.com, where it was clearly stated that the only fee I had to pay was what I paid during the booking. However, when I arrived at the rental office, they demanded an extra €15 fee just because my booking was on a Sunday—something that was never mentioned beforehand. Instead of the VW Golf, they gave me a Hyundai i30 saying it's in the same class. The car they handed over wasn't clean, they told me that it just came from another customer. Their inspector did a very quick check, but when I looked closer, I found scratches that they had missed. They added them to the contract, but since the car was not cleaned, it was impossible to spot all damages properly. The real nightmare came when I returned the car the next day. A different inspector checked the vehicle much more thoroughly than the first one. After wiping off some dirt, he claimed that there were two small scratches on the rear corner and insisted that I acknowledge responsibility. I refused to sign because I'm sure I didn't cause any damage to the car. Then, they told me if I didn’t sign and pay for the damages, they would charge me an extra €90 processing fee on top of the repair costs.
I don't recommend renting from this company. But, if you have to, do the following:
- Only accept a washed car so you can properly inspect it.
- Take a detailed video of the entire car before driving off.
- Report every single scratch, even minor ones, and ensure they are noted in the contract.

Europecar continually upgrades cars…

Europecar continually upgrades cars without consent. Their excuse is that they have no more low CC cars left.I have encountered this on multiple ocassions, this is fraudulent! I always book a Fiat 500, but when I get to Bristol airport, they say I must upgrade, shocking folks, I just have to pay more each time! They constantly do this to weedle more money from you.,DECEPTION!

Hired from economy car rentals broker…

Hired from economy car rentals broker for 2 weeks at Munich airport 1/2/25-15/2/25. Made a down payment which meant I only had €325.19 left to pay. Europcar charged me €484.64 which wasn't my original quote. The staff member was extremely unhelpful and told me there was nothing she could do. I had no choice but to go ahead as I had places to be. On returning the car they also charged me €73.54 to fill 1/3 of a tank of fuel. My complaint to get refunded is still ongoing. Do not use this company, cowboys.

Complete letdown when they had 3 weeks to get a car ready!

We have a motability car that was badly damaged during the Storm Eowyn on 24th January, car was still driveable so there was a delay in getting the car in for repair.
Car was booked in for 12th February soon after I reported it and Europcar was to supply us with a vehicle that would meet our needs. All Europcar had to do was find a car the same size as our car, pretty standard size Sportage and not be full electric, that leaves them with a huge range of vehicles to choose from, petrol, diesel, manual or automatic [hybrid so long as it's not plug in]
And yet they can't even do that.
I got a call on 31st January from a NON-UK number to set up the replacement car then I had no other contact till the 12th when I got an early morning text saying they were in the process of assinging the vehicle, then nothing till the day after the car got taken away when I get a call at 1130am to tell me they still don't have a car for me and I wish I could say I was surprised when he read out what type of car because they had it completely wrong.
Was told they'd call me today, 14th to let me know IF they have a car for me, this is completely unacceptable, WE NEED A CAR! I have stuff to do such as pick up my wife's prescription, pick up her carer and get shopping, they've left us without a vehicle that she can get into. Sure I have access to my son's AMG A35 but it's so low to the ground it's killing me [I have spinal stenosis] getting in an out of it and it's no use for her. It's also not ideal using his car as he lives a mile away so it's not like it's sitting waiting and he works hard so he doesn't have time and nor should he.
Worthless company I wouldn't use them if I had a choice. Don't trust them at all.

Europcar DE - Cannot speak English and charged incorrectly

We rented a car from Europcar Germany in May 2024. After returning the car we never received the deposit money in full and it was explained they had deducted money for 'premium cover'. During booking and car collection we explicitly made it clear that we have 3rd party insurance already and we DO NOT WANT OR NEED any additional protection or insurance. However the lady at the desk did not seem to speak or understand English very well. She seemed confused and she never explained to us that she added the premium protection despite us asking NOT to include it.

We managed to dispute this through our bank many months ago, and now we have received a letter from debt collection service. We have contacted Europcar Germany customer service and spoke with two representatives (Mehmet and Jetmir). Jetmir in particular has been very unhelpful, rude and keeps disconnecting the calls mid conversation and is not willing to help. I believe calls are recorded for quality and monitoring purposes and the call was at 10:14am on 17th January 2025. We want to request for this to be investigated as this is not the level of customer service we expect.

More importantly, we want to resolve the issue about this 'unpaid charge' when we never asked for the premium cover and everything in the contract was in German and we were NOT explained that we are being charged additional amounts for something we clearly objected to.

We have also reported this to the group CFO as we cannot find anyone else that is able to or willing to help from the group.

Will avoid Europcar going forward AT ALL COSTS!

Poor customer service

Poor customer service. Recommend you to report to your credit card issuer for any cost disagreement as soon as you find out.

I was charged 1 additional day with a much higher price because of their mistake. Called and emailed them many times and provided proof of my return date. They admitted on the phone it's their mistake and agreed to refund me, in a few calls. But they didn't refund. I regret that I didn't raise this to my credit card issuer early enough as I thought a company with such a big name would care their customers. But it turned out to be my disappointment.

Extremely poor aftercare service

I had to travel to London for a funeral. I had a flat tyre on the way back to the airport, I called customer services and was on hold for over 20 minutes. Not wanting to miss my flight and face even further expense, I had the tyre changed at a cost to myself of £220.00. I sent the invoice for this to your customer service team and was told I will not be getting a refund?

Racist Treatment and Unprofessional Service at Europcar Stuttgart Airport: Avoid at All Costs

I had an extremely disappointing experience with Europcar at Stuttgart Airport. Despite my Turkish driving license being valid and in the Latin alphabet (as stated in Europcar’s own policy), the staff refused to honor my reservation, claiming my license wasn’t “international.” Even after showing them their policy, they dismissed my explanation with a discriminatory attitude.

This unprofessional and biased behavior forced me to book a last-minute car with another company (Hertz), which cost me 614 EUR, in addition to the 11,620.77 TL I had already paid Europcar for a car I never received.

When I reached out to Europcar’s customer service, they failed to take accountability or provide a meaningful resolution. Their dismissive approach only added to the frustration.

This experience showed a complete lack of professionalism, customer care, and respect. I strongly advise against renting with Europcar, especially if you expect fairness and adherence to their own policies.

Be cautious when dealing with Europcar. My experience revealed a lack of professionalism, fairness, and respect, as well as discriminatory behavior. You risk facing such racist treatment and losing your money.

We hired a car from Goldcar in Brisbane…

We hired a car from Goldcar in Brisbane Australia...part of Europcar for a month ... returned 29 Dec 2024 handed keys over to their representative..not via Dropbox,,he took photos and said everything was fine
We then got message with photos taken 30 Dec 2024 with damage ..
They are now asking for $1104.40
Something radically wrong here
Not to be trusted ...we have disputed their claim but may as well talk to the wall
This is not about the money ..we are insured against the payment.
It's the principle of the matter
How many others have been in the same situation
Goldcar / Europcar should not be making false claims
