I really wanted to like this place…but it sucks

I really wanted to like this place because the office is absolutely beautiful inside. Unfortunately, the service has been extremely disappointing.

At my first appointment, I waited over 30 minutes because the doctor was at lunch. I don’t understand why appointments are scheduled during lunch if patients are going to be left waiting. Despite that, I still gave them the benefit of the doubt and even recommended the office to my sisters. I also scheduled appointments for both of my kids.

I came in early December to order glasses, and now it’s mid-February and they are still not ready. I’ve called multiple times and was told the glasses would be ready “by the weekend” and to give them extra time. When I finally went to pick them up the following Friday, I was told they still weren’t ready. At this point, it seems like the frames haven’t even been started.

The lack of communication, repeated delays, and disregard for patients’ time is extremely frustrating. I would not recommend this doctor or staff. The office may look nice, but the service has been awful and a complete waste of time.

Consumers you have a CHOICE

Consumers you have a CHOICE. I have never been treated so unprofessionally as I was by Dr. Agnew. On my fourth visit to see if I could get glasses that actually allowed me to see I was told I had “been difficult from the start,” and because I was “in my 60’s,” I should not expect to see clearly. This is unacceptable. I do not have a difficult prescription and I need to see clearly to do my job and live my life.

First, the wrong type of lens was ordered and that was the problem. There was some problem with the measurements for the progressives and finally, I was told that although the re-exam showed a different prescription, it “wasn’t that different” and asked if I wanted the lenses redone. Well, yes! I was also given dismissive answers regarding distortions of traffic lights at night saying again, “it was my age.” That doesn’t really add up because the distortion I described was not there without the new glasses. She also said I had “blue” eyes and therefore that effects how I see at night. I have dark hazel eyes. I have been on this odyssey since November 2, 2024 and I just received my glasses on February 21, 2025.

Dr. Agnew seems to feel entitled and emboldened to CRITICIZE her patients rather than LISTENING and trying to fix the problem. Perhaps, rather than BLAME her patients, she should work on her bedside manner and getting the prescription, lenses and measurements correct the first time. When you charge high prices for average products then I suggest you at least make the experience not painful. A little humility goes a long way when you are dealing with patients.

Her staff fields the majority of the issues and remained committed to finding out why getting a pair of glasses seemed elusive. Bless them and their patience. They kept on trying to fix the problem she created and maintained an atmosphere of professionalism. For that, I am grateful.

The good news is I have a choice and so do you. Save you money and your time and choose another optometrist.

What a terrible experience at Metairie…

What a terrible experience at Metairie Eyewares. I paid $1,200 on top of my insurance a few months ago for an eye exam, glasses and contacts from Dr. Lauren Agnew. She charged me $1,231 and my insurance another $601, but gave me the wrong prescription and never gave me the eyeglasses and never replied to my repeated phone calls since. It gets worse. I never had any physician treat me so fraudulently.

When I picked up my contacts and glasses, I noticed they had the wrong prescriptions. The prescription was not just a little off but way off by several diopters in both contacts and glasses.

I immediately called Dr. Agnew’s office and explained that both the contacts and glasses had the wrong prescription. Staffer Hanna said she would order the correct prescription but also was still confused about the prescription power. I asked Hanna to have Dr. Agnew call me. Dr.Agnew never did.

Two weeks later, Hanna called me to say she had the correct prescription, but when I arrived at their office, she did not include corrected lenses for the glasses and stated she did not know the glasses had an incorrect prescription. I was clear in the previous conversation that both contacts and glasses had the wrong prescription. I asked Hanna again to have Dr. Agnew call me. She never did. Why would any business person not return a phone call, especially a doctor?
I never received my correct eyeglasses and after 3 weeks of calling and leaving a message for Dr. Agnew, she never returned any of my calls. I recently became aware that Dr. Lauren Agnew was under investigation by the Optometrist Licensing Board so I called the Board to ask, and they confirmed Dr. Agnew is under investigation.

This thing gets crazier. She never called me but did call her attorney, who sent me a Cease & Desist letter because I left a review on Yelp. Why would anybody ever do business with this company to get treated this way?
