I had the most incredible birthday…

I had the most incredible birthday dinner at Fingal — a beautiful floating hotel at the Leith Docks. It’s such a unique and elegant spot, surrounded by the soft glow of the water, and truly an experience to remember.

From the moment we arrived, the staff were warm, welcoming, and went above and beyond to make the evening feel extra special. They offered us a better table and even handed me a lovely birthday card — a thoughtful gesture that set the tone for the night.

Every single dish was exceptional: beautifully presented, perfectly cooked, and explained with genuine care. The atmosphere was elegant yet comfortable, and the service was absolutely faultless. You can really feel the attention to detail in everything they do.

It’s rare to find a place that combines such stunning surroundings with impeccable service, but Fingal does it effortlessly. This was a night I’ll remember for a long time, and I’m so grateful to the team for making it so special.

I highly recommend Fingal to anyone looking for a truly memorable and elegant dining experience.

Splendid Afternoon Tea

The afternoon tea was splendid, great variety and all delicious. Great range of savouries and cakes but the award goes to the light as a feather scones.
The ship has been tastefully fitted out and the staff were welcoming and efficient. Definitely going back for dinner.

Unique 'hotel' experience.

Unique 'hotel' experience perfectly located in Leith with amazing rooms aboard a former lighthouse support ship.
Staff were amazing as was the food, drinks, and breakfast.
Can't recommend it highly enough.

Retirement special treat.

Myself and my wife were booked into Fingal by our son to celebrate our retirement. The whole experience was stunning, staff professional and engaging, decor amazing and of course nautically themed. The food was delicious as we dined on board. We also enjoyed an afternoon tea like no other we have ever had and we were most definitely taken through the food on offer to ensure there were no issues. Beyond compare!

Unique beautiful luxury hotel

We stayed the weekend for my birthday celebrations. The hotel is lovely has been very reburbished to a high standard and gives you a unique luxury experience. We stayed in a classic duplex and it was stunning and very comfortable. Breakfast was included and I have to say you can’t beat a good Scottish breakfast. Black pudding was very tasty. We ate in the restaurant one evening and thought the food was excellent in beautiful surroundings. The best part was all the staff who were really friendly and took time to get to know you a bit. Their service was excellent. We were asked about allergies prior to eating so I was surprised to read that this was not done for someone’s afternoon tea. I would thoroughly recommend the hotel and restaurant. They also have a function suite for weddings or celebrations and it looks like a fantastic place to have you event. Thank you to all the staff for making our weekend special.

Pass

Certainly not worth the money! Food was mediocre and service was slow and inattentive. Would not recommend.

Afternoon tea

Certainly not worth the money, when there are allergies it should be discussed what alternatives are available or what someone would like and not just give them what you feel is ok, had to request other sandwiches and only 2 finger sandwiches provided extremely poor value for money

This is one of the best places we have ever stayed

This is one of the best places we have stayed at and I have stayed all over the world, the staff, the settings, the food, the accommodation is not only different to other hotels that standards are some of the best we have encountered.

Its either a short taxi ride or 2 mile walk in to Edinburgh and also lots of nice quaint bars are the port area.

A floating gem

I read about the Fingal some time ago and had it in mind as a potential landmark birthday holiday spot. We decided to scout the hotel by attending afternoon tea service. It was lovely, with the savouries winning out over what we felt were quite basic sweets- I will say even the sandwiches were fresh and delicious.

What commends the hotel most is the staff. From servers to porters and even the front desk, everyone on site was so kind and helpful with both answering questions and enthusiastically telling us more about the ship. Though we decided against it in the end mostly due to the current roadworks and also sadly the location (as nice as the decks are we just didn't feel the view is very inspiring) interacting with so many people who obviously love working there was a real treat and well worth the visit.
