To advertise an item or items

To advertise an item or items, receive no reply even you may have messaged as soon as item was uploaded. Then for the items to be marked as taken seems suspect. Sounds more like a circle of individuals who collectively put their own items on, knowing they will remove them, whilst taking items from genuine people. Meds investigating, anyway Keep free cycle ciao

The freecycle nowadays

It used to be good. There are a lot of immoral, dishonest, incorrect villains advertising on it these days. Too bad for this nice service.

An example is my case yesterday:
I discussed with the advertiser that I going to him and pick-up a computer monitor. The advertiser has confirmed and provided all his data (exactly address, telephone number). Just before I went to him, I received a message from him that he had given it to someone else. He promises something and absolutely doesn’t keep his word. He is lying.

When I promise someone something, I always keep my word.

I'm giving up on Freecycle

I'm giving up on Freecycle! Posting on Gumtree Freebies is much easier to use. Coping with Freecycle now is a pain, added to the fact that people who showed an interest don't then respond, or those who do fail to collect! Too much bother. Used to be good. I gave lots away and picked up a few items too.

Freecycle has obviously lost its way.

Don’t you just love the way moderators and anonymous comments from Freecycle personnel completely dodge the issues people raise on here?
Overwhelmingly, public opinion thinks very little is good about Freecycle, particularly since the last revamp which has made matters worse, not better.
Whoever is in charge of web design for Freecycle seems to have sought new paths in the art of web design........... and has become hopelessly lost.

Why has freecycle changed it’s format

Why has freecycle changed it’s format? It is not possible to put ‘Item taken, thank you for your interest’ which means you have to reply individually to everyone who applies. It puts me off offering.

Trashed a great site! Such a shame.

Recently started to use Freecycle again and what a disaster the new site is! You have to log on to see messages even if you have ticked to receive them via email. Then getting to them is a run around the block. Very confusing and disappointing. But the most disturbing thing is that there is nobody on the site anymore! I used to post things and get over ten replies within minutes. Now hardly anyone for fabulous items such as PS4 TurtleBeach headset! And then the option to donate cash to Freecycle! What the hell? Will have to take things to the tip from now on. Such a shame. Whoever is behind this change should hang their heads in shame.

Awful new interface

Awful new interface. Only get a few characters from the title displayed in the list so can't tell what it is. It only gives a few items in the list before you have to refresh to get more, then refresh again and again. Search results aren't returned in chronological order.
The new interface is frustrating. Why change something that was working well, this is just update for update's sake. Take a lead from the ethos of the group. It doesn't have to be new to be good and usable. I've given up and just stick to trashnothing now.

Try other marketplaces

I haven't used Freecycle for a few years, when it's used to be good. I've been waiting over 2 days for an offer post to be approved and over a day for a moderator to respond to me. I'm doubting that my post will be approved. I don't think I'll be using Freecycle again, which is a shame because it used to be a great marketplace.

Posts forever 'awaiting approval'

I have been having problems posting for a good while now!! Before it was a great site post things and they were snapped up immediately but since it changed I have had to change my password twice because it doesn't recognise me. And my posts sit waitng for approval for days and hey ho!.... they are never approved!! I have tried constantly to contact a moderator to no avail. People are losing out on good quality items because of this sites incompetence...

Just to echo most other comments - WHY?

Just to echo most other comments, Why? The old layout was simple and fine. This new update does not work on my tablet, I find it hard to read, especially the e-mail updates. It really is truly awful, and I cannot understand what possessed anyone to change it.
Please at least give us the opportunity to revert to the old layout.

A great community site ruined by the new interface

Freecycle was my go to place to find things an the new website has ruined it.If you are looking its very hard to find things with apparently only 6 or so hours of posts accessible. On a mobile phone its virtually unusable. so then people dont go looking so and people dont post items to offer.

Despite so many reviews saying this , there is no change. at least put back the option of using the old site!

I used to love this site

I used to love this site. I have recently listed 3 items and the website experience has been awful.
Before, if someone replied to a post, it would be sent to your email to let you know. Now, not only fo you have yo keep checking it, you have to ho yo s sub folder within a folder to find messages. I found 3 messages I didn't know were there 2 weeks later!
Not easy to use anymore. Gutted that the website is so awful now. Such a fab concept and I'd hate to see it go. Please get a new website developer. (Or get the old one back!)

Reply from Freecycle

For what it's worth, we didn't change the email functionality. If you are not receiving emails and you were before, they'll be in your junk folder or blocked by your ESP. Nothing we can do about that from our end. If you changed your settings, you may log in and click on My Settings to change your email setting back to Individual Email or to Digest for example. You can correspond via email like before, or, also, as you note, have all conversations in one place on the website which is a new function and entirely optional. Most find this quite handy as all replies are on the site in one place.

The new site is so disappointing

The principle behind Freecycle is excellent but this new site is not. Unlike the old site, this is difficult to navigate, it is too busy, photos are hard to access, the reply option is unreliable. Basically for someone not techy it is so much more difficult than the previous straightforward site. I’ll have to use it as I applaud the Freecycle principles but it is a shame that we have lost the lovely simplicity and ease.

As I mentioned on a previous post,I had to re upload a picture on my item as for some reason one had just gone black . My post went through the moderator AGAIN (just for a picture??????) And that was three days ago . It still hasn't been re posted. This new site will kill free cycle. Why did the change it ??. How many bad reviews do you need to get before you realize you messed up .

New features ignore actual user needs

Site redesign is a classic case of pointless feature creep without actually thinking about what users need or want.

- Why on earth do items that are already taken still get displayed? Some sort of perverse "haha, you missed out, better check more frequently in the future!" mentality?

- Why is there an internal messaging system? Email was good enough, more reliable and less effort.

- A concise list of available items is better than a long, annoying to scroll through list of photos. Users are opportunistic, and being able to see what's available briefly and quickly is much more important than misguided aesthetic choices. If people want photos and further information they can click on a concise text listing.

Overall this feels like a well meaning website designer wanted to help out, but spent more time thinking of features that would be fun to implement than on checking whether they fit the use case. Perhaps someone who works in UX could kindly set them straight.

As it is, the new site design is likely to kill off Freecycle, and places like Freegle will take up the slack

Lucky Dip Post Approval?

If there aren't enough volunteer moderators to approve posts, within a timely manner, then local areas really shouldn't be allowed to have post approval turned on, thirteen hours on and I'm still waiting for my posts to be approved, after subsequently numbered posts have already been listed. It doesn't seem to be a queue, so much as a lucky dip.
