FrontFundr is a great platform!
FrontFundr is a great platform!
I have invested through them many times and the process has been easy, hassle free and worth it. Staff are helpful in answering any questions and I have seen some great returns on my investments. Definitely will be investing again!
Best move ever
Late to the investment game (by about 20 years), I wasn't sure where to begin. Enter FrontFundr, with curated opportunities and a platform that is super easy to navigate, especially for beginners and entry-level investors. My second investment went public and I basically hit the jackpot. Call me biased but using FrontFundr was the best investment of all!
Investing in Canadian innovation and ideas
I started using FrontFundr in 2020 and i really liked the platform because it gives regular people access to invest in some great Canadian companies. Here you are able to view and see pitches, terms, leadership and een get your questions answered. I like that FrontFondr is approachable and are there to answer and questions along the way.
I have invested in 5 different companies that I really liked and thought that their ideas and concepts were innovative and solved real world problems.
I recommend checking them out, if anything if gives lots of great ideas that are coming down the pipeline to be aware of. I would love for them to start a small internal exchange where we can trade the securities that we currently own from them with other investors that might have missed the investment round.
FrontFunder is a great investing platform
FrontFunder is a very easy to use platform to invest in private companies. The layout and design is clean and functional. All the information you need to make informed decisions is readily available, and contact info for the companies is available if you have additional questions.
Reading and signing all the documents is made easy all done electronically, and you can find all your information on previous investments on your dashboard. I have invested in 4 opportunities myself.
There's a very diverse mix of types of investments, and some of the opportunities qualify for TFSA and RRSPs.
I highly recommend the FrontFunder platform for both investors looking for oppotunities to diversity their portfolios as well as companies looking for private investment.
I've used FrontFundr to invest in 4 companies

A Canadian crowdfunding platform for…
[Update: after my first investment experience, I had my principal returned with target return. Things generally went smoothly. I hope more firms use this in the future in raise capital.]
A Canadian crowdfunding platform for Canadian startups, as well as sister site to SMV Capital Markets (funding for existing private companies).
I just started using the platform, but have a few comments to help potential investors who are conducting their own due-diligence.
PROS:
- yes, it is legitimate
- conducts due-diligence on behalf of investors
- low minimums
- debt and equity offerings, such as common shares in startups as well as illiquid bonds and MICs
- good incentive structure: they earn money from "warrants": a percentage of shares of startups if they have a successful exit
- all online (but beware some important docs may be mailed to you, necessary for exit)
- Frontfundr assists their start-ups to have successful exists by helping them get listed on Canadian junior exchanges (apparently they had one successful public listing)
- seem to have a lot of innovation and expanding market. In the short time I have been paying attention, they have made partnerships with StartEngine USA to list American Reg-A startups, and others like Deal square.
CONS
- few offerings compared to other us or UK sites
- many Canadian companies would prefer to crowdfund on USA sites like Seedinvest
- fee for listing (6-8% charged to amount raised by startup) is comparable to Seedinvest. However, to incentive Canadian companies to remain in Canada and list on Frontfundr they might consider having a more competitive fee
- high cost to fund through a TFSA or RRSP
I will return in a year to update and explain my experience. I am hopeful that this platform will succeed and attract more Canadian startups, so clearly I am a little biased & optimistic.
