It's been about a year that I finished the Diploma Course at the British Academy of Garden Design. I've been searching for years for this kind of graduation here in Germany, but there is none. As the English Tradition in Garden Design is leading, I submitted. During the course, I've learned everything I needed to start my own business. Garden Design is not very common in Germany, normally the contractors for garden and landscape are making the plans, but a lot of them even don't and are working without plans. It took me a little time to find my first clients, but explaining my work to people at a home fair worked and now I'm enjoying my business with clients. Thank you very much BAGD :)

I'm currently enrolled in the Postgraduate Diploma in Garden Design (study from home online version). I find that even though the whole course is online, it's a very complete course thanks to all the provided reading material, videos and practical tasks in the assignments. The Student Services Team have been really supportive and helpful, and my tutor gives very good feedback. I also really appreciate the flexibility offered with this course, one has the possibility of putting the course on hold or adding another year if needed, which is a huge relief when juggling between a very demanding full time job, other commitments and studying. Just two negative points in my opinion: the first one, is how time consuming each assignment is. I am completely new to all this, consequently it takes a lot of time for me to understand what needs to be done and how to do it. If one aims to get at least a Merit on the assignment, I find that each assignment is really too time consuming and it becomes frustrating. The second point, is the grading process which I don't find is fair. You have 4 tasks per assignment, and for example you can get 3 Distinction and one Merit, and even though you did great on 3 tasks out of 4, the entire overall grade is lowered down to Merit. I don't find this reflects correctly on the quality of the submitted work. Other than these two points, I would definitely recommend this course!

I’ve just received my final feedback and I’ll be sad to finish this course! Such a journey! And I cannot believe how much I’ve learned! The student services are soooo helpful all the time, the tutors offer great advice whenever needed and brilliant feedback in order to improve your assignment. My tutor Ines has been on hand whenever needed, whether it be for assignment help or advice on taking on clients, even though I was doing the home study I never felt like I couldn’t ask for help! There are so many courses out there but this one for me had the most to offer especially with a placement at the end of your course which I am excited to get stuck into! Thank you all at BAGD for everything!

The in person course tutor was amazing, so inspiring, helpful and made each and every lesson so much fun. The online course tutors are also very helpful, encouraging and really try their best to help you stay on track. It's hard studying alone once the course is over and you have to be disciplined. Time slips by and the 3 years goes so quickly, but the online course tutor has helped me, I am now over halfway through the course and set to finish on time if I keep this regime up.

I started my Garden design post-grad diploma (online) a few months ago and had a great experience so far. My tutor is very helpful and guides me through invaluable feedback so that I can improve my skills to become a garden designer. The course content is very comprehensive and organised in a way that guides online learners effectively. I like the flexibility of the assessment submission as you can do the course while in another full-time job. I am really happy that I chose to learn with the British Academy of Garden Design.

The British Academy of Garden Design provided me with an opportunity to study remotely and at my own speed which at the time as on maternity leave worked well. You do need to be interested and self motivated but hence the draw of the course. The modules were interesting and if you did require support or further guidance the tutors were available. I thoroughly enjoyed the course and will be looking to build on it's foundations and progress further within this field.

I am still quite early on in the course but so far all communication has been clear and informative. The staff have also been friendly and supportive when called upon. So far so good!

As a complete newcomer to garden design and a beginner to all things relating to gardening, I signed up to this course to help me create a design for my own garden. I have found the online foundation course challenging but immensely enjoyable, and satisfying too.
The course itself, which comprises of five assignments, is really good value for money as you are given so much information to work with and learn from, via your own online portal. Each assignment encourages you to explore gardens and garden design on so many different levels and for myself, this has greatly increased my knowledge and understanding of the subject, which in turn has helped me to form workable design ideas.
The online forum is also so useful, particularly when I've needed more clarity or handy tips about some of the tasks in the assignments as you can either contact the tutor directly for further direction, or look through previous student's queries and tutor replies on the same subject.
I would say, this course is a really solid foundation and introduction to garden design, and although you might learn more by engaging with other students and tutors in a classroom environment, the library of resources provided and the support of the network of tutors has been invaluable in helping me to successfully complete each assignment remotely.

I am loving my studies through the British Academy of Garden Design. Living in the United States I'm able to the take the Diploma Course in Garden Design remotely. I was assigned a tutor who is very responsive, personable and great at answering my questions. Each module is dense with information on design elements, drawing/drafting, history and plant materials, and encourages you to research and really dive deep into topics. I am learning so much and so glad I decided to take this course.

I wish the forums were a bit more active to give a sense of community and camaraderie, but that's the nature of the beast, as I have neither time nor funds for Zoom or in-person classes. Other than that, I was not expecting this experience to be such a thorough exploration of horticulture and gardening. I'm learning a lot and really enjoying myself. I hope it continues.

Feeling super proud of myself for completing this course around my full time job, child and general life. It did take me the 3 years to do but it was great to have a focus and escape whilst working on each assignment. The course is so informative and I know so much more about not only the design but gardening in general, the science behind things and even how to start a business! I can't wait to take the first step into my new career, thank you to the academy xx
