Very poor

I tried to enter some musical instruments into their sale. After not replying to my emails for over a month, I had to contact them again. Had a reply from Jamie saying he'd 'missed' my last email. I sent them photos and a list of my instruments. Two days later I received a reply from Jamie saying that they'd closed the auction early and I'd have to wait until next year.

I acquired a guitar at the recent GH…

I acquired a guitar at the recent GH auction ,, however it was missing the tremolo arm , I contacted Luke at GH & instead of giving me the run around he went out of his way to send me several to try to fit .. when none of them did he must have searched the whole building as he located the origional , kept me informed the whole time . In these days of merely adequate customer service his comittment to help is exemplary thank you

I’m so glad we went with them!

About a year ago, I was tasked with clearing my parent’s house following the death of my stepfather. It was stuffed full of a lifetime’s worth of clocks and watches and bits of clocks and watches - some valuable, some not so much and a few mistakes… but a vast quantity. I talked to a friend of my late stepfather, who knows about the watch trade, who recommended Gardiner Houlgate - I’m so glad he did.

I met David Hare at the house, for him to look at what we needed to clear/sell and to agree terms. He was absolutely professional, while being friendly and flexible. A few weeks later, he arrived with a full sized furniture removal van and packed it all up and took it back to the auction house to sort into lots. Again, all very efficient.

Over the next year, in a series of auctions, the hundreds of lots were sold. Throughout the process, I was kept fully informed. The amount of work that must have happened to get all these items ready for sale should not be underestimated and a special mention to the photographer- who made the items look great.

So the results… we have received far more than I had hoped for. Throughout the process, I have always felt very confident in my choice of going with Gardiner Houlgate and I have felt supported by the mix of friendliness, professionalism, trustworthiness and results of this auction house.

At the end of all this, I’m still so glad we went with them!

This is a dishonest auction house

This is a dishonest auction house. They gave a fake condition report and would not stand by it. Yes, there is fine print to be read, but any honest auction house would not sell a damaged and repaired art as mint and give a written condition report. I do not believe this company can be trusted and I have read other reviews to this effect.

Disreputable company, avoid.

Quite scandalous behaviour from a ‘reputable’ company. Took a lot for sale and then brought the date of the auction forward a day without informing me or WITHOUT publicising on their website. One wonders if a degree of ‘insider trading’ must have gone on and how much more my lot may have achieved it buyers were informed. Since the auction the auctioneer has never been available to take calls!
