They were the worst people/company ever. Misold us big time. We are still paying off the loan. Hardly made anything in fitpayment & the system does not work anymore either.
We made no where near what they said. Conmen through & through

Genius Energy closed their doors a few years ago. This is my story.
A lot of decent people have been left in debt and no aftercare for their solar panels. I was one of the lucky individuals who did his homework and took on Genius Energy and had the £14000 loan (repayments being £28000) cancelled and £3000 in monthly payments repaid to me and I was told I could keep the solar panels for free after threatening to expose their MIS-SELLING of solar panels.
Please read my story below.
I was missold solar panels and mislead like many other decent people.
I have had solar panels fitted by Genius Energy Ltd in March 2014 a 4kw system and what a waste of my hard earned money. New customers thinking of going to this company for solar panels beware of the following way you will be mislead.
The salesman will tell you they are part of the Government Green Deal Scheme and they are not.
The salesman will tell you and mislead you that you will be in fuel poverty within the near future to scare you into taking out solar panel system with them. To
The salesman will tell you the cost of the solar panel system will be approximately £14000 - this is more than double the price for a 4kw system. Average 4kw system will cost £6000.
The salesmen will tell you, you will cover the monthly payments by the energy the solar panels generate - this is also misleading. I paid £150 per month in repayments for the £14000 loan and I received only £400 from the income generated by the solar panels for the first year. I did not do my home work and when I rang my energy provider they told me I would only be receiving £400 per 12 months from the energy the solar panels will generate. I was paying over £1500 per year out of my own pocket.
The salesman will tell you, you will receive monthly payments for the income generated by the solar panels - this is also misleading, you will be paid every quarter if your lucky. My first payment from the income generated by solar panels was £140 for 3 months energy generated from the solar panels. Upon receiving £140 for 3 months I knew something was wrong and that I had been mislead about the performance of the solar panel system.
On his 2nd visit the salesman will ask you to sign a form (which he will keep hidden) and will tell you this signature is to check and see if your eligible for the free solar panels, there no such thing as free solar panels, your being mislead into signing for a high interest loan.
What your actually signing for is a loan from Shawbrook bank which will be subject to a very high interest rate. So if your loan is £14000 what the salesman will not tell you is the total repayment for the loan will be double the loan amount so you will be repaying back £28000.
The salesman will try and get you and your wife/husband/ partner, both of you as a couple to agree to the solar panel system so that you are both tied into the agreement financially.
The salesman will not leave you any paperwork, the reason for this is if they leave you any paperwork then you will figure and sus out you are being mislead. You should be given paperwork in case you change your mind and you do not want to carry on with the contract you signed - I was never left with any paperwork.
So overall Genius Energy salesmen are misleading you to make the system sound so good.
Do not recommend your family and friends on the thought of receiving £100 per customer you recommend to them, this is the only way they can gain business by giving you an incentive and all your doing is putting your family and friends into Debt.
I recommended my family and friends and Genius Energy sales people started to hound them via the phone and luckily none of my family and friends took out a solar panel system with Genius Energy which to me was a great relief.
Overall you are just being mislead and sold a solar panel system that is not fit for purpose. I wrote to Genius Energy CEO and he disregarded my letters.
So from an innocent member of the public who was in Debt due to the dishonesty of a salesman do not purchase your solar panels from this company and go to a more reputable company and most of all do your home work.
Never trust a salesman as they are only interested in their own commission, ask to see the paperwork, read it and then sign any paperwork.
On 29/06/2015 RECC (RENEWABLE ENERGY CONSUMER CODE) found Genius Energy in breach of misleading and miss-selling solar panel contracts to consumers from late 2013 up until June 2014. I was missold solar panels during this time. So if you were sold solar panels during this period then take them to court as Genius Energy have admitted to RECC they breached the consumer code.
***MY PROOF*** You can find the report on RECC website under non-compliance panel. Google RECC Genius Energy Ltd non compliance report it will come up. Please read it before you decide to purchase solar panels from this company which has changed its name.

A very friendly helpful team from the first visit to the after sales care, the work in between time was done efficiently and quickly with care, all questions where answered and easily understood and no question was too silly to ask, there was no pressure to go ahead with time between visits to think about everything and make sure we understood everything clearly which is very important, I would definitely recommend this company if you are thinking of getting Solar panels.

I had been thinking about having solar panels for quite some time, I questioned friends about their installations and looked at many reviews on the subject.
The fact remains that however much I thought about it the price of electricity was never going to come down - so it was quite a relief when I finally sat down with Andy my salesman and we worked it all out.

Once I had placed my order it seemed to go so fast - the scaffolding went up, the panels were delivered and it was installation day... even that was over in a couple of hours and we are generating electricity from my rooftop during daylight hours, with the added plus of more electricity generated when the sun shines.

Two months later I sent in my first meter reading ....over 700!!! And, although I have no idea what that converts to moneywise - I know it will be going into my bank account!! Its wait and see time!!

In short - thank you Genius for making it relatively painless - It was a decision worth making!!!!

The service was quick from the initial assessment to the installation, however the scaffolding was left at the property longer than necessary causing a lot of convenience

All the staff at 'Genius Energy' are friendly and very helpful throughout the whole process. We had an excellent consultant who ensured that we understood all the ins and outs of the costs and savings to having solar panels fitted to our roof. I would and have recommended 'Genius Energy' to my friends family and neighbours as I believe that it provides a great saving to your energy bills.

Excellent customer service, the sales consultant was helpful answered all my questions and wasn't at all pushy, the customer service staff kept me upto date every step of the way and the way and the instillation team were helpful and worked quick

We ordered our system based on a recommendation from a friend. The whole process was carried out quickly, efficiently and I believe honestly. All of the contractors and employees were polite, and worked hard to get the job done as soon as possible making sure that we were OK with everything as it progressed. The original assessor was very good, explaining everything thoroughly. Scaffolders, roofers and electrician worked quickly, and tidily. Electrician was very good explaining how things worked at the end of installation. Support from the office was thorough, explaining what was needed and when. Overall up to now a good experience.

sales man, surveyor, scaffolding people, panels fitters,and electrician all very professional. fantastic service. no comparison to other energy companies.

Having decided to investigate solar energy, Genius Energy were professional, helpful and knowledgable. They gave very clear advice which tallied with our own research. Purchase was effeciiently organised and the installation was well organised and professional, with office staff hugely helpful. If you are intersted in green energy, Genius Energy is well worth contacting for a excellent and friendly service.

I was very impressed with the gentleman who came to visit as a result of my enquiry (they did not cold call). Very informative and regularly made sure we knew the way it works. He was not pushy at all. The compliance measures are a good idea and I appreciated that he allowed me to have some compliance measures of my own (I recorded the conversations for review later).
Following organising everything it worked well. We would recommend them but do make sure it is right for you.

starting price was a bit alarming but manged to agree on a fair price in the end. installers were excellent.

The sales reps are very helpful and honest , and they explain the whole service in detail . The whole of the genius team are helpful and their telephone manner is excellent . I would and have recommended genius energy to family and friends .

All the workforce and staff members at Genius Energy were extremely polite, honest and professional during the initial meeting, subsequent installation and in their completion of all the documentation.
Despite a slight misunderstanding with the installation date, all services are up and running, with minimal disruption and in good time.

We had been thinking about getting solar panels for a while, so when we had a phone call from Uma at the office, we thought why not. There's nothing to lose. Karyn Shaw came round and went through everything and put our mind at rest.
Everything happened so fast. Scaffolding went up without a hitch. Panels fitted within 3 hours and electrician was here for 5 hours. All tradesmen were polite and respectful.
I really can't fault the way Genius Energy have looked after us through every step since signing up with them.
I would highly recommend them.
Now we just have to sit back and reap the rewards of solar energy
