TERRIBLE SERVICE - SHAMBLES

After I ordered my cycle Giant Fathom E+2 Pro, the product arrived and turned out to be faulty and did not work even though it had passed all inspections by GIANT.

When I contacted rider support, they were frankly rude and suggested that I take it to a local shop for inspection. I'm not sure if it's ignorance or a complete lack of empathy, but people actually work full time and taking a brand new bike to a shop is not easy. You need to be able to fit it into your vehicle and take time off work to do this.

When I asked for a replacement bike, they outright refused and replied in an abrupt manner that they could only refund and not replace or exchange the bike. I don't see how this makes any sense because as a customer, I was extremely inconvenienced by this, considering I have spent nearly £2.6k on this cycle.

I dealt with Cian from rider support, who was not at all supportive or apologetic about the inconvenience caused. When asking for the complaints department, it was the same lady responding back!!

Would not recommend

Bought a new gravel bike. Sadly the cables were far too short and run against the stem even with the handbars in neutral position. Lead to rubbing the paint off down to the primer layer within one ride. Giant have refused to do anything about it instead suggesting I spend £20+ on touch up paint. Shameful customer service

Poor Customer Support from Giant and the Dealer

Buying a new bike, I opted for a well known brand - I wish I had opted for a different well known brand, one with decent customer services like Specialised! They may be slightly more expensive, but the customer support is miles better than Giant!

I bought a Revolt 2 from a bike shop just outside Exeter, I should have clicked on to the flat tyre when we initially tried the bike - as this was the start of my problem. The dealer pumped the tubeless tyre up and I was happy, until I returned home.

Working away meant I didn't get the chance to ride the bike, when I did return 3 weeks later the rear tyre was flat. Every time I re-inflated it, it slowly returned back to being flat. My remedy was to try and remove the rear wheel and sort out the problem properly - this is when the problem started - the bike had a Giant Through Axel. I tried an allen key and to my surprise, it was so tight I actually bent and then snapped the allen key! (I know what you are thinking, but I removed the front wheel to make sure I was turning the right way - I have also been an engineer for over 36 years and know an overtightened fitting when I encounter one). I tried another and couldn't budge it a millimetre - it really was that tight! I used more weight, and the internal of the through axle stripped straight away. Trying the other side the same thing happened. I contacted the bike shop and returned the bike - this was a brand new bike that hadn't been ridden. They managed to release the rear wheel but the through axle is badly damaged and stripped, they also wouldn't replace the axle unless I paid for a new one. Their explanation was 'This wasn't their fault - the wheels are tightened at the factory, contact Giant'.

Contacting Giant, they say this is not a warranty issue and they don't want to know - 'contact the people you purchased the bike from' is their reply. I have a new bike that I can't use, unless I spend more money on a part from Giant that is specialised to giant bikes!

Don't buy a Giant bike with a through axle, unless you get the dealer to loosen the axle's first. This part can not be replaced with any sort of quick release system - it HAS to be the Giant part. As my bike is still unused over 2 months after purchase, I am considering throwing the bike back at the dealer and just claiming the money back from my card provider - let them sort it out themselves.

Similar poor warranty experience on an Explore +1 E bike. For more than $4,000 I would expect a seamless customer and warranty service. My bike is on hold in a bike shop for 2 weeks with no explanation or reply. Investing in an ebike for commuting and being treated this way is deeply disappointing.

My experiance has left a bad taste in my mouth

I attempted to purchase a Liv Tempt 4 from Giant bicycles in the last couple days. Since they DO NOT ship directly to your home, i agreed to having it shipped to my local bike shop. Turns out they no longer do business with my local shop, and WITHOUT my approval or consent, were going to send the bike to a different bike shop AN HOUR AWAY from me, which I would have no means to get or functionally coordinate receiving. Then I attempted to email, Call, and use their online chat service (which all worked prior to them processing my order) and was ignored consistently trying to get the order canceled and refunded. This is a terrible way to treat customers. I wouldnt have had as much an issue had they at least asked me before attempting to send the bike somewhere else. Im still working to get my order canceled and refunded. Sadly im now working with the Better Business Bureau, and the company i financed through to resolve this issue. I doubt now id ever do business with this company again, including buying a bike of theirs in store. Terrible experience, and I would not recommend them to anyone I know.

Great bike , poor digital display

I love riding my Talon e-bike. It took me awhile to get use to the size & was hard to find a suitable bottle to for the small frame .,love the 29" wheel. I try not to use the power but when needed it sure is sweet. My issues is the digital display. It is fogging out can barely see the screen. It was replace few months after the purchase of the bike, now few more months and again it need to be replace.,. it's frustrating!

Giant Fathom PRO 2019

Giant Fathom PRO 2019
My wife and I both purchased new Giant Fathom PRO 2019 (27.5 Plus) models in May 2019.
This is a history of both bikes for anyone thinking of buying a Giant emtb.
My Fathom has done just under 8100 miles in all weathers. Below zero centigrade/ riding in deep mud/rough as you like tracks and water lapping at the bottom of the engine through deep fords. In all that time (other than the normal chains/cassette wear and tear parts) the only issues are:
1. Occasionally the ride controller indicates a battery issue. Simple enough to take the battery out and clean contacts with a cotton wool bud and a good quality electrical contact cleaner.
2. Had to change the ride controller as water had got into it and caused issues.
Not bad after 8100 miles!
My wife’s bike has covered 6800 miles in similar conditions and again other than wear and tear items not had any issues.
I cannot comment on Giant customer service except the first time I had a battery issue back in 2019 I did email them and heard….nothing.
So once 5 years old (May this year) we will replace both bikes. There are some great emtb’s out there now but for us due to the reliability (mainly of the Yamaha motor) we will both look at Giant/Liv.
I do wish that Giant would bring the STANCE PRO model into the UK as the only way I can get that model with the 85nm Motor and 800watt battery would be to buy and use a LIV Embolden version. I am not that bothered that is a female version tbh!

I'm truly disappointed with my recent…

I'm truly disappointed with my recent bike purchase process. Despite buying three bikes for the family two days ago, the pickup was delayed, it was supposed to be the next day, which was yesterday. Regardless, I went to pick them up today.

However, the encounter at the store was disheartening. The lady handling my transaction was exceptionally rude and even crumpled the receipt in anger when I pointed out a pricing mistake.

Upon loading the bikes, I noticed dirt, scratches, and a peeled-off size sticker. The person, whether an owner or not, insisted they were new but curiously kept wiping them down. They said it's just built from the box. After a series of confusing explanations, the person admitted a mistake and agreed to build new ones from the box. However, the promise of brand new bikes was shattered, as we had confirmed when paying the deposit that they would build new ones, not provide displayed ones. That's why we opted for a later pickup.

Also, when calling to address the issue, my husband encountered more rudeness from the same lady. Despite securing a refund, the lack of an apology added to our disappointment. Our much-anticipated family hike with brand new bikes turned into a regrettable experience.

It's disheartening to encounter such UNTRUSTWORTHY and RUDE behavior in our local community.

Amazing bike, superb service

Bought a PakYak e-cargo bike about a week ago from Giant in Doddington/Lincs. Got a massive discount on a ex-demonstrator even though it only had a few miles on the clock. Took it back today as there was a slight issue with the battery compartment and I needed a long stem as the handlebar was too low for me. They had the part I needed in stock, fitted it, sorted out the battery door issue and handed me back my bike in mint condition in under an hour. I've never owned an e-bike before so the info and advice from the very knowledgeable people at the store has been vital for me. I couldn't be happier with the great service and would have no hesitation in recommending Giant to my friends.

500 Wh battery problems

Having purchased Giants Trance, Defy, Revolt and several variants of Fastroad bikes over the past couple of years I believe they are a reliable bike and a trustworthy brand. But…… a 500 Wh battery on my Giant Fastroad Ex+ Pro that I had purchased in November 2022 and had only seriously ridden in the month or two up until June 2023 died on me after recharging. It had shown no previous faults and 100% battery health when I used the Giant App. So after taking the bike back to my Giant retailer and waiting patiently over a month I was told in early August they could not get a replacement battery until next year. I thought at the time the technician was joking. But a few weeks later I got a phone call from my retailer saying Giant had sent them a battery. It was an old used smaller 375 Wh battery. The thought of downsizing the battery on my e-bike made me decline. I have several 500 Wh batteries at home and why use a 375 Wh battery when I would ride up to a 100km? I unwittingly said that I will wait for the replacement 500 Wh battery. It is now late December and only a week off 2024, and it seems the information I was given six months ago is not a joke. Seriously though I have not heard back from Giant or my retailer since August and so having made contact with the latter three weeks ago I was more surprised when they did not have the courtesy to return my call. No attempt has been made to return my bikes battery cover so I can at least put another battery in my bike and sell it. What would happen if there is a major mechanical or electrical issue with my bikes other than simply replacing the battery.

What is most concerning as a consumer is the fact that during the month of December and leading up to Christmas, Giant and their retailers have been advertising ample numbers of the exact same Fastroad Ex+ Pro bikes with the same sized battery as mine. So it appears they have hundreds of that exact same battery sitting in the exact model bike in their warehouse and around retailers stores across Australia. Yet I cannot be supplied with a replacement battery so I too can ride my bike around at Christmas time? Does Giants sales trump service or warranty or customer satisfaction?

Upon visiting my bike retailer in the first week of 2024 and having spoken to the store manager indicating I was not happy they like me pointed out they are consumers too and would not be happy with that kind of service and within a fortnight Giant sent them a new replacement battery.

Liv Langma just over 2 years old

Liv Langma just over 2 years old. Bike snapped on the trainer. The drop out broke and as a result the seat stay on the same side snapped. Have complained via retailer to Giant who so far have refused its a Warranty replacement and have implied it was damaged intentionally. I provided video evidence, the bike itself is with the shop and giant haven't asked to see it and provided my strava data also which proves the timeliness etc as evidence. Lifetime warranty on frame is a sales pitch as far as I can see and you can't even deal with the complaint yourself it has to go via a store. Absolutely shocking dismal responses from such a huge company

Will not fix your big if it take too much effort

Bought a user Giant FCR Aluxx in Taipei and wanted the seat lower. I took it to a Local Giant store and asked their mechanic to lower for me. I knew the seat post was very stuck and I couldn’t loosen it to lower. The mechanic losen the screws on the seat clamp and sprayed some oil and try to twist it for a few minutes. He then tightened the screw and said the bike was too old and he can not loosen it. I told him I will pay and leave my bike at the shop to do the job. He told me he can’t because he might destroy the frame.

I do not know where or how Giant stores hire their mechanics.

I am from Canada and any bike shops there will definitely help you out. The only thing is how much it will cost.

I do not know how this show in Taipei does their business because they have lost my.

Do not believe the warranty

Do not believe the warranty.
Giant (Australia) did not honor for frame broken after normal road riding. They were dismissive, deceptive and deliberately protracted in their dealings.
We are currently seeking guidance with the ACCC in this matter.

A long-time Giant customer but no…

A long-time Giant customer but no longer. Let me start by saying that Giant has been my go-to bike brand since purchasing my first "real" Giant mountain bike in 2014. Since then I've purchased a new TCR, TCX, Fathom, Anthem, a second TCR, and now a new Revolt Advanced 2 (Starry Night colorway). The early 2022 Giant Revolts were plagued with reports of cracking in the seat-tube/seat-post junction since this new frame allows for a traditional round seatpost to be used as well as the proprietary Giant D-fuse post. Before making the purchase on 10/28/2023, I had contacted Giant and they assured me that the bikes in their inventory now have all been reconditioned to address this issue. After getting the reassurance I went ahead and picked up the bike and went for my first shakedown ride the following day. Over the 60-mile mixed surface ride, I couldn't help but notice a popping/creaking sound emanating from the seatpost area. Because my local bike shop was nearby, I went and had the mechanic assess the situation and replace the wedge that holds the seatpost in place. All seemed good for about 10 minutes and the popping noise returned anytime I would pedal while seated. On my second ride on 11/2/2023, I noticed the noise seemed considerably louder throughout the ride. Upon inspection, I noticed two hairline cracks (about 10mm in length) on both sides of my seat-tube junction where the D-shaped spacer is pressed against the seat post. I went ahead and contacted Giant USA in Newbury Park, California, and left a voicemail voicing my concerns, they did return my phone call within a few days. I expressed my desire to return the bicycle under the 14-day return policy on their website, this was when I was informed that those only apply to purchases from the website that are then delivered to the local bike shop for assembly. Truthfully it took me some time to understand the difference between me ordering the bike through the site or having the shop order the bike but that was an eye-opening experience. Now at the time of this review, I have been off of my new $3000 bicycle for three weeks waiting for further responses from Giant as well as my local bike shop on a possible remedy. I feel that as a loyal customer, I was deceived by a company wanting to move some older inventory that has a stigma attached to it. This will be the last Giant product that I will be purchasing and my plan to purchase the 2024 Giant Propel will certainly not be happening. It's sad because I believe that Giant makes phenomenal products and I have logged 60,000+ miles (per Strava) on a variety of their bikes.

Update 1 (11/21/2023): After not hearing back from the bike shop or Giant about an ETA for my new frame, I decided to give Giant customer service a call. The customer service rep calmly told me that my replacement frame wouldn’t be available until the “first quarter” of the new year. They also told me I should monitor the crack but the frame should still be safe to ride. Due to the disconcerting noises and slipping seat post, I will certainly not be riding the bike on road much less off road due to safety concerns. Disappointment is an understatement. I asked to escalate the issue to find another solution and was told to contact the Outside Sales Representative of my area. This is my next step…

Update 2 (11/22/2023) After being given the contact information of the Outside Sales Rep, Mark Helms, I quickly gave him a call due to the upcoming holiday. After introducing myself, I started explaining my current situation as well as my desire to start a dialogue regarding my issues and potential solutions (other than waiting until the beginning of 2024 for a frame). Unfortunately, my suggestions for alternative solutions were all met with very curt, "No's". There was a tangible sense of apathy and irritation on Mr. Helms' part throughout our entire conversation despite my attempts to reach a friendly and reasonable solution. I even tried to confirm if I could have the replacement frame not built up and he responded with an annoyed, "Not really", which he quickly tried to explain away that they "normally would like to have the bike built by the shop". The last straw came after he suggested that I keep riding the bike, to this I asked about the continued noise as well as the issue of the seat post slipping. His response was, "Well there is obviously something wrong with that frame and the new one won't do that."

No thank you, Mr. Helms and Giant--I cannot and will not support a brand that claims an issue has been fixed, then admits to a defect that will take months to rectify, then irresponsibly recommends that I ride the bike as intended on gravel roads. The new frame/parts will be sold piecemeal regardless of the time, effort, and money that will be consumed during this process. Sadly, goodbye GIANT.

My horrific experience with Giant customer service

I wish to submit my experience with Giant so as to protect other unsuspecting customers who might fall for their false promises.
I have purchased a number of bikes from Giant for over a decade. My bike fell to some issues needing repair. I counted on their so-called “lifetime insurance”. The damage sustained was of wear and tear type that any half-descent dealer with fundamental work ethic and competence should have anticipated well in advance and prevented by issuing relevant warnings.
They instead adopted the attitude that the damage was from lack of due diligence on my part in regards to insufficient servicing. When I offered to produce receipt records proving unequivocally that servicing was not only only regular but more frequent than expected, they stopped answering my emails!. They declared not even a wish to eyeball these receipts. I contacted the Giant HQ to raise the problem, including the exorbitant repair fees that their Cyprus dealer asked for in order to proceed with repair, on the back of an alleged lifetime guarantee. They merely ganged-up with this dealer so as to keep favourable terms in their relationship, not shedding one ounce of interest for their customers or aiming to produce satisfied clients. It is no surprise to me that Giant’s sales have plummeted in Cyprus. When I made a proposal to buy a new bike at a reduced premium as a way of resolving the dispute, the dealer came back with a disdainful and insulting counter-proposal for 250 € off the purchase price!!

My confidence in Giant Bikes has plummeted and my message to all is to stay away from Giant bikes and assume that their proclaimed lifetime insurance is regrettably not worth the paper it is written on-the name of the game is extortion and collusion with their agents to the extent that they gang up together against the unsuspecting customers. I feel it my responsibility to protect other people from having a similar horrible experience and advise that Giant should be appreciated as a gang rather than a company that respects its customers.
