Restaurant worth a zero.
If I could give the restaurant zero, I would. In the last 6 days we have breakfasted at Tebay Southbound, lunched at Gloucestershire Southbound, breakfasted at Gloucestershire Northbound and lunched at Tebay Northbound, all owned by the same company. The lunches in particular were as awful as the worst service station food we have eaten anywhere. It’s been a long slow fall from grace, as all these places used to be good. Next time we’ll be leaving the motorway in favour of small local cafes or bistros, offering quality at a fair price. I hope others will do the same and stop lining the pockets of a company whose only interest seems now to be making as much money as possible under a false promise of quality and uniqueness. The shop has a great selection of goods but they are largely overpriced with little stock rotation. Same old same old.
Stopped for a tea and toilet break.
The services are good for dog walking and the shop is always interesting and well presented though v pricey.
The toilets were clean and tidy with plenty of toilet roll, soap and hot water.
The price of the food however is extremely expensive and not always that great.
Today I bought a regular sized decaf tea. It cost £3.35. When I opened it to take out the bag, it was milk white. The Tea had not been given any time to brew before the milk was added. I stirred it to try and get some colour which resulted in the bag beginning to break.
The result was a warm milky wet which might be good for hydration but not for flavour.
I went back to complain but both the cafe area where I had bought it and the restaurant had huge queues.
So, I gave up and wrote this review instead! I'd add a photo of the tea and it's palidity but I don't know how to add it.
My advice would be if you need the loo and then want to browse the shop or walk the dog go to Gloucester services. If you want food you'd find it cheaper and better and served more quickly at another service station.
Used to enjoy stopping here. No longer. Unreliable.
I used to love stopping here, lovely food, so pleasant compared to most motorway services.Unfortunately, the last four times I've stopped here - over six months- the electric charging points have been so shockingly unreliable that it's made my journey delayed and stressful. Tonight - & this has happened before - it took me five attempts with different charging points to find a one that actually worked to charge my car. This also included calling the charging point helpline, he tried and failed to start a charging point remotely. It was about two degrees, dark and cold.I'm on my own.And as before, I have now kept other people waiting who've gone on to eat without me because I'm going to be late. However, nice it is here, that doesn't make any difference if I can't quickly charge my car right first time. So I will not be coming here again.
Seriously overpriced
Ticket 890 of 5.1.26 refers. Looked like an attractive place to visit from seeing it on TV. However, a single scone £4! If it had been fresh and properly baked I wouldn't have minded but cold to the touch and when sliced had the appearance of sawdust. Lazy manager,or incompetent staff, have allowed scones, frozen or chilled, insufficient time to recover to room temperature. A wander around their farm shop only reinforces my view of rip-off pricing. No point in returning .
Avoid Avoid, Drive on....
Floors disgusting throughout, ingrained dirt, filthy. Tables stacked with uncleared food, plates, cups and cutlery. Toilets unclean, soap dispensers empty, cracked basins, no toilet roll, clearly no maintenance programme in place. Uncovered food on display in the farmshop, people coughing and sneezing all over it. What happened to food hygiene? And everything overpriced, zero value for money. Just avoid this place! 😡
Expensive coffee and diffident service
Expensive coffee and diffident service. Disappointing.
Coffee disappointing
I’m no connoisseur of coffee but I do like a latte. We purchased three lattes on our visit and I had high expectations of a tasty coffee especially since they cost us £13 (charged £1 for a babychino)
I can quite honestly say it was one of the worst lattes I’ve ever had. It had a very odd taste and lacked any of that comforting pleasure you get from a milky drink. I thought it was just me, but my husband commented too that he preferred a Greggs or our Tassimo coffee machine at home and they were half the price.
In all a lovely place but very overrated - beautiful breads to purchase but do they really sell all of them fresh each day?
We won’t be calling in again!!
after breaking down in your car park…
after breaking down in your car park for an excessive amount of time two of your workers came out to check on me and offer their sympathy for my situation. There was a very tall man called Steve I think and a lady with brown hair, I think her name began with S. They both showed absolute humanity towards me and my situation and went out of their way to check on me. Really made a horrible situation a little better with just some simple empathy. Thank you so much
It’s lost its soul
Visited these services about 5 years ago but yesterday the Northbound had changed so much. Still lovely and clean but now the food on offer in the cafe at 11am was poor. Cold and overcooked. Cups of tea were tasteless, a teabag in a glass mug, just not right on so many levels. Little individual jugs of milk meant lots of wastage as way too much for one mug of tea.
The Farmshop was great offering a good range of typical produce priced at typical farmshop prices. Hobbs bakery bread available, always a positive experience
Would we stop there again? Only to use the clean toilets. Definitely not to eat.
I wouldn’t even give this a one-star…
I wouldn’t even give this a one-star rating if I could. I stopped at Gloucester Services Southbound on my way to Bristol to grab some refreshments from the farm shop. While I was there, I actually saw a mouse run underneath one of the cabinets. Another person noticed it too and told a staff member. This is extremely unhygienic — especially in a place that sells food. I immediately put all my shopping back and left. I’m really disappointed, as I expected much higher standards from a place like this. I won’t be returning.
The cutlery was disgusting in the cafe…
The cutlery was disgusting in the cafe area with traces of food still stuck to it and after requesting a drink of ordinary classic Coca-Cola I was served a bottle of children's organic Rola cola for £4 instead !
NORTHBOUND SERVICES we have visited…
NORTHBOUND SERVICES we have visited many times and excellent however today more than disappointed with the hot food in the restaurant, we ordered steak pie and sausage & mash £13 each, the pie had just 11 chips and barely filled half the plate, 2 sausages a tiny ice cream scoop of mash & tablespoon of peas again half filled the plate, we definitely wont be calling again to what was our favourite services!
Polite Richard
Richard showed us way to other side! Very polite man.
Cheese scone disappointing
Cheese scone - where was the cheese! Very disappointing for somewhere that takes pride in good quality food.
Bad experience
Went to this place paid for parking £32 walked to the toilet, and washed my hands it was 1 min past 9 and they said sorry we're now closed the food was still there in view spoken with a youngish snotty girl the tills are closed i said the food is still there so they prefer to put it in the waste bin 🗑 i have done a 15 hour day truck driving and they let me go hungry thanks and they didn't need the tills I had a food voucher disgusting place so don't be fooled by them helping the plant because they prefer to contribute to land fill than give it away i won't be returning this dump
The very patient and kindly staff
The very patient staff, despite being hot themselves, dealt with tired stressed and hot customers in a friendly and compassionate way.
Especial mention should go to team leader Josh.
Great food and facilities, relaxing and friendly
Southbound Gloucester sery
Southbound - facilities and food options really good. Outside seating good. But coffee was terrible. £7.20 for 2 large Americanos. Had to take one back - like dish water. Second marginal better but hardly any flavour. Pains me to say but McDs coffee so much better. Expected better.
Toilet areas very grubby
We visit both northbound and southbound services at least 3 times a year. Always enjoy browsing and love the food. Have to say though that this visit (July ‘25) the northbound ladies toilets were very grubby, toilets stained, floor dirty, especially in the corners near the sinks, some of which were out of order. I appreciate the enormous footfall in these areas but with diligent cleaning & maintenance staff I’m
sure this area could be as impressive as the shopping areas. We’ll be back in September & hope to find these issues improved.
Disappointing sandwiches
Clean service station. However, we were very disappointed in the sandwiches we bought. Very dry white bread with unpleasant margarine for the ham sandwich. The egg mayonnaise was better but not particularly tasty.
