Not very happy with the Colchester branch, had an appointment to obtain a second key for my Nissan Qashqia, which was a 40 mile round trip, only to be told after 20 minutes of arrival, that the key ha... See more

Impossible to make phone contact with the branch
I have been trying since Monday 9th February (three days ago) to make contact with the Colchester branch in order to have someone look at what would appear to be a minor warning light problem. Several of the telephone numbers listed on the web site are unobtainable, and I am now currently awaiting a response from two messages submitted through to Colchester by the Romford call-centre, who inform me that 'nobody is picking up', plus a further message submitted through the 'AI chat thing' on the web site. I have submitted mu contact numbers on each occasion and have yet to receive the courtesy of a reply or acknowedgement.

Really poor service
Really poor service - Alfie turned up gone half an hour later than our test drive appointment and when we left to do this he left me in the car whilst he was dealing with another customer! I had to cancel my drs appointment and then he said he was unable to get another model out for me to test drive - I would need to make another appointment! lol very shoddy … would not recommend this dealership (Thank you Theo for the coffee - that was kind of you)

Reliable good trustworthy
Glyn Hopkins Unhelpful
When my radio stopped in my Nissan Juke I went to Glyn Hopkins in Waltham Abbey and asked for help to put the code in correctly. I had all the necessary information I needed including the code as it turned out but was told by a receptionist that this was not right and that I would have to book the car in for the day and engineers would need to take the radio out in order to put it right. This would cost over £90. (Plus cabs from and to the garage).
It turned out that this was completely unnecessary and with more friendly advice I sorted the problem out myself for the cost of £15. The information I had presented to Glyn Hopkins was all I needed.
It’s a pity that this particular member of their staff was either ignorant of the product she was asked to deal with or she was deliberately unhelpful.
Not good.

Repair in Romford …
After being told we needed to do an inspection we were informed that the brake pads needed replacing as they were 90% warn. It was going to be 600 pound so we asked another mechanic ho quoted us less money(under 200). When we took the car in, he told us our brake pads were how much 80% good and didn’t need a rep replacing and that whoever told us it was was lying.

Glyn Hopkin Renault Colchester
This is the worst garage I have ever dealt with. I took my Renault Megane here after my car alarm was continuously going off. The car was under warranty, however I was still charged over £300 for a new alarm unit. This did not solve the alarm going off. I was also told that the car had a broken coil spring, that needed replacing. They wanted me to pay upfront for the part, which they said was on back order and could take months to arrive. I decided to take the Car to John Banks in Ipswich, who fixed the alarm and also told me that the coil spring was not broken. So I can only guess if the mechanics at Glynn Hopkin are incompetent or just trying to con customers in to work they don’t need.
Just avoid them at all costs.

Shocking customer service from the…
Shocking customer service from the buckhurst hill service centre. I've only had my car 6 months and already having problems after approx. 4 months.
Popped in to see if I could have this looked at (all electrics from front to back not working on both passenger doors) as doors and windows not opening.
Was told they could squeeze me in on 30th Jan and to bring the car between 8-10am.
When I arrived I was Informed it was not a 'waiting' appointment!! At no point was I informed that there are two different types of appointments and that mine was not the above.
I have no one to help me, so I have to wait for the car. I was the first car in the carpark at 8.30 and yet at 11.00 I'm still sitting waiting for my car to even be seen (now they're telling me 1pm).
Whilst the waiting is annoying, the issue I have is that the communication is shocking and you cannot expect people to just know what the drill is if you are not clearly and thoroughly explaining it to your customers. The receptionist Ellie is then getting 'aggy' towards us customers and cannot see that the fault is lying with the complete zero communication. As a first time customer and new to having a car from Glyn Hopkins, I have no idea how the appointments work, so if its not explained to me, how am I expected to know ?
There were 2 managers in offices behind the receptionist and at no point has ANYONE offered any apologies for the wait or customers service. This is shocking. How are you managing a service and you can't even be bothered address your unhappy customers ?!!
At this stage, I would not put myself in a position going forward to have to deal with this service centre again.
Incredibly disappointing.

Very disappointing experience with a used car/ sold a car with existing issues
I bought a used Nissan Qashqai from Glyn Hopkin Nissan in St Albans, expecting a proper inspection and peace of mind from a main dealer. Unfortunately, this was not my experience.
Soon after purchase, issues started to appear. The local GH dealership later acknowledged that the front tyres were not to Nissan standards, and from an early stage I experienced clutch and drivability problems. Despite being told the car had passed multiple inspections, basic issues were missed — including expired repair kits left in the boot.
After months of ongoing problems and no satisfactory resolution from the dealership, I had no option but to escalate the matter. Both the Motor Ombudsman and the Financial Ombudsman Service investigated and concluded that the vehicle was not of satisfactory quality at the point of sale. As a result, my finance company took the car back.
This was a very stressful and time-consuming experience, and not what I expected when buying from a main dealer. I would strongly advise anyone considering a used car here to be cautious and to carry out independent checks.

I bought an MG HS from the Watford branch. Everything was fine until I went to pick the car up and there was two chips on the front bonnet. After weeks of calls not being returned and broken promises to fix the problem, I eventually managed to get them to take the car. Honestly, it looked as though someone had just blobbed two bits of paint right over the damage. Absolutely disgusting customer service and I would urge anyone to buy their MG from anywhere but this dealership. The irony is when you call customer service, they leave you waiting on the line for 10 minutes whilst listening to a message on repeat which says 'customer service is very important to us'. IT ISN'T!!!!

The worst car dealers and service centre
The worst car dealers and service centre I have found in the last 25 years. Bought a brand new MG4EV Trophy long range. The car started making rattling noises that others and I could hear clearly, but the technician denied it. Glyn Hopkins Mill Hill suggested I report it to MG UK, so it's a nexus of two, and I wouldn't recommend anyone buy MGs, especially through Glyn Hopkins. I lost money and returned the car.

Disappointing Motability Experience — Lack of Clarity and Poor Communication
I ordered a BYD vehicle from Glyn Hopkin Chelmsford on 28 December 2025 as a Motability customer. When I visited the dealership again in January 2026, I left feeling very disappointed. Communication was unclear, and important information about the car, the order, and the Motability process was not explained properly. This caused unnecessary stress and confusion.
I expected a professional and accessible experience, but instead I felt rushed and not listened to. After comparing with other dealerships, it became clear that the service here did not meet the standard I need as a disabled customer.
I have now cancelled my BYD order and chosen a different brand where the staff were respectful, clear, and supportive. I hope this dealership improves its communication and accessibility for future Motability customers.
Date of experience: December 2025 – January 2026

Picked up my new mg hs today
Picked up my new mg hs today, I bought online as I wanted a specific car .
I live near Manchester and bought at Brockhurst Hill, Essex.
I was only in there for 5 mins to collect but really caused me a lot of problems to collect as I didn't have a part ex so needed to find my own way there.
I asked if delivery could be arranged but they said no.
If your advertising cars nationally online, then you should really have the facility to deliver them .
I would have been happy to pay for it
