Awful company
Awful company, frankly need investing for fraudulent and criminal activity, suggested my credit card used for the booking didn't have enough credit available which was not the case and credit card issuer had approved a transaction for an insurance block, Gold car telling me aggressively it had been declined.
Avoid at all cost dreadful company with apauling selling tactics that would appear at best fraudulent at worst criminal

We arrived at Goldcar Palma Airport to a queue of around 150 people waiting to hire a car. We have all been suckered by the phoney prices that they publish and then try to scam hundreds of euros out of their customers. After waiting for 4 hours we gave up and got a taxi to our destination. DO NOT USE!

Even if the price seems too good to be true, it's because it is!!!
When I arrived to collect the car, the lady on the desk was friendly. She advised that I needed to pay €120 for fuel. I pointed out the car was a Fiat Panda, and a full tank would cost a maximum of around €50. She explained this was their policy with DOYOUSPAIN and assured me if I returned the car empty, they would refund the difference after refuelling it (minus their refuelling charges, there are many!). One week after returning the car, I've had no emails, no refund, and no response to any of my emails.
Also, make sure you take videos and photos of the car before leaving. I'm normally very thorough with this, but I was in a rush this time and only checked the basics. More fool me!
When I returned the car, the staff member tried to claim I had scratched the rear of the vehicle. Even though the damage had already been marked on the collection sheet from the previous rentals, he initially insisted it hadn't. Fortunately, I had taken a photo when I collected the car, so he accepted it wasn't my responsibility.
He then pointed out the tiniest scratch on the wing mirror, which I am 100% certain I did not cause. After already trying to blame me for damage that was clearly pre-existing, I'm convinced this scratch was there too, but unfortunately I couldn't prove it.
He directed me to the office, where I was told I would receive an email with details of the alleged damage so I could make a claim through my insurance. Seven days later, I'm still waiting for that email. However, they had no problem taking the money from my account immediately.
We are now on day seven, and despite sending numerous emails to both Goldcar and DOYOUSPAIN, I have received no response from either company.
In my experience, I would recommend paying a little more and booking directly with a more reputable car hire company. I certainly won't be using either of these companies again.
Goldcar charging for damage that we did not do
We hired a car for a week from Murcia airport. We had an extremely difficult time upon collection, with them trying to pressure us into additional insurance cover despite our pre-book fully comprehensive cover.
This was just a prelude to what followed. We returned the car, and took a number of images to show there was no damage, (the car was actually parked on a private drive during the rental period).
The office was too busy to inspect the car, as all the staff were sitting outside, in the sun, smoking. This was a bit worrying as its normal for a report to be carried out when bringing a car back. Anyway, we had our 900 euro deposit refunded as clearly there were no issues. Over a week later they have come back asking for £325 for damage. The images they have sent are different to the ones we took when we dropped the car off so suspect suspicious behaviour.
Despite emails to the person (or BOT) requesting evidence, and asking why a week or so later, when someone else could have hired the car,
We cannot locate any email address that work. The published customer service one does not, and no others seem to exist.
This seems fishy, and more research shows that this seems to be common practice for Goldcar.
I would not trust this company as still waiting on their response. They have even tried to take money from our credit card without any consent from us.
If i could give a zero, I would
Abusive charges
We hired a car for five days and, as well as having to pay for the insurance they sell you so you can ‘have peace of mind’ – which ends up doubling the cost of the hire or more... – we received a fine that we paid directly via their platform:
They mention that, via their platform and using a code, there’s a discount on the fine – so instead of €100, you pay €50 plus €12.10, which they take as administration fees and charges – but as soon as we’d paid, they charged us another €40 in ‘administration fees’!! Again!
My advice is that if you’re fined and given the option to pay the fine via their platform, do it directly through the DGT or relevant organism instead, because you won’t save any money. They’re a bunch of thieves!
Fast and good service.
Fast and good service.
I have been renting cars at Goldcar Malaga airport many times now and the experience has been very good. Latest I rented a car from 17.6.2026 to 1.7.2026. I rent the cars without insurance. It took me 5 minutes to receive the keys at the counter. Good service. When I returned the car there was a man ready to receive my car. He was smiling, nice and polite. 2 minutes after I left the car, I had an email from Goldcar which stated that everything was fine and my deposit would be returned. Two hours later I got a message from my bank stating that the deposit was returned. For me this is good service 😊.
Thanks.
Awful fraudsters
Awful fraudsters. Didn’t abide by the contract agreed with Argus Car Hire. Added taxes even though I’d already paid them, then charges €170 cross border charge even though my agreement clearly stated €90 was the max for any given booking. They have no sympathy and the rude lady who served me at Malaga airport said “you could book with someone else if you wanted”. Diabolical and now having to chase for money owed back to me. I will never use this company ever again.
I think 1 star is actually too high
I think 1 star is actually too high. They are rude, impatient, and react very aggressively. They made a fuss about every little thing and ultimately refused to let us take the car. They also tried to get us to take out insurance, even though we had already arranged it through a third party. They indicated that this was not okay. So, in the end, we had to cancel the reservation because they were unwilling to help. Very disappointing, I must say.
SCAM!
SCAM!!! They make up fake damage and then charge your card. Thankfully I documented all damage to my vehicle before I picked it up. And then took pictures when I dropped it off. I cause no damage. They also tried the meeting with a friend who booked at a ten same time as me. He also had pictures to prove he caused no damage. AVOIDE this company. They try to scam you for damage you didn’t cause.
Rude, unfriendly staff who show little concern.
We arrived in Mallorca at 20:30 with a car reservation made through DoYouSpain, only to find ourselves waiting in line for over 2 hours with around 50 other customers. The staff were rude, unfriendly, and showed little concern for the long wait, even after explaining that we were travelling with a tired and hungry 5-year-old child. When we finally reached the desk, we were confronted with unexpected extra charges and an excessive credit card deposit that had not been made clear during the booking process. After being treated poorly and wasting a large part of our evening, we decided to cancel the reservation altogether. A very disappointing start to our holiday.
Terrible service from when we collected…
Terrible service from when we collected the keys! The gentleman behind the desk was pushy to sell the extra insurance. We then had to pay €115 to rent a car seat which you can buy from the supermarket for €60. The car was great tho and was lovely. How ever when we dropped it back and then arrived back home we had an email for a “major” cleaning charge of €150!!! All that was in the car was a little sand from the beach and was dusty on the paint work! Definitely won’t be using these doughnuts again!

Person working at Palma airport made a mistake that put me to back of a 2 hour queue, even though I had already been waiting in the queue. I asked if they could put us back to our original place in queue since it was their mistake. They said no. An incredibly frustrating experience with a company that does not care about customers. I write this before even picking up the car because of tjr long long wait. Let’s hope the review doesn’t get worse!!
This company needs to be investigated…
This company needs to be investigated and shut down. Predator pricing, hidden terms and conditions, absurd pricing consequences, opaque terms and conditions, demanding more and more from us knowing full well you are trapped if you don't comply. We had paid already, sold to us through Ryanair's app at a 20% discount to entice you in, when you arrive at the airport, tired and hungry, there are suddenly massive 1500-3000 euro deposits to be paid and a refusal of valid payment cards, all targeted at trying to force you to buy their in house 'premium' insurance at hundreds of euros over and above the cost you originally paid if you dont agree to leave such an absurdly large deposit. When you refuse to jump through their hoops, they then refuse to refund your initial payment. Lost a few hundred £, but learnt a life lesson. Boycott these scumbags.
Avoid renting from gold car
Avoid renting from gold car. Pure scam merchants. I rented from majorca palma airport. They would not accept my credit card as it was not embossed. This is not an added security measure but is solely done to force you to buy their expensive insurance. The staff member laughed when saying it knowing I had no other option.

Hired a car sor £225 collection was PMI airport for 11 days. Once we arrived we had to print out a ticket to the join a queue which they tried to force fast track for ££ which i never took waited about an hour until my number was called (fast track did not move any quicker) to the be told to buh there own insurance for €300 or a €5500 credit card hold plus a €167 fuel hold on either option i have never had this with any other car hire company and would not use again.
Hidden fees
Hired a car in Tenerife to take over the ferry to La Gomera. I reached out to goldcar customer service via email before making my booking to ask them if there were any potential issues with taking the car to a different island. The word for word response I got was "We can confirm that you can travel from Tenerife to La Gomera without any problems."
When I picked up the car they made me pay a 139 euro cross border fee to let me take the car on the ferry.
Really poor customer service to not highlight this fee when I asked about taking the car to la Gomera. Didn't have time to shop around after learning this at the airport, so had to pay or wouldn't have been able to get to our ferry and accommodation. Poor
Unable to pay deposit due to not having…
Unable to pay deposit due to not having an embossed credit card.
GoldCar refused to accept my deposit payment from the same card I used to pre pay the rental from. The desk tried to upsell me a larger car than I needed, when I refused this they said they couldn't take my deposit (for the car I had already paid for)as my card wasn't embossed. The card in question is from a recognised bank, I asked them to run the deposit through the payment process which would have worked but the refused to do this. Funnily if I had taken the upgrade they said that would be fine, essentially refusing to supply the car I had already paid for. Fortunately I managed to secure a car from EuropeCar using the same card, no problem. 0 stars for GoldCar 5 for EuropeCar who were great.
The worst customer experience …
Honestly never had an experience like it. So aggressive. Desperately pushing their insurance on us. Refusing to take ‘no thanks’ for an answer to the point of me having to walk away, but only after being belittled and shouted at by the ‘manager’I’d caution anyone against using this firm. You get what you pay for.
STAY Away from Goldcar!
English
I had booked a rental car through Goldcar in Barcelona. When I arrived to collect the vehicle, I experienced what I consider to be very unprofessional and intimidating treatment.
First, the staff tried to pressure me into upgrading to a more expensive automatic car, claiming that I was not capable of driving a manual transmission vehicle, even though I had specifically booked one and hold a valid driver’s licence.
The staff then informed me that I had to purchase Goldcar’s additional insurance for €450. They claimed that if I refused to buy this insurance, my children would not be covered in the event of an accident. When I explained that I already have comprehensive travel insurance through a Norwegian insurance company, they dismissed my explanation and even claimed that the insurance company did not exist.
After a lengthy and unpleasant discussion, I was eventually told that I could rent the car without purchasing Goldcar’s insurance. However, I was also informed that the original terms and conditions of my rental agreement would no longer apply.
According to the rental agreement that I had booked and paid for, the required security deposit was €1,400. Instead, Goldcar demanded a total deposit of €4,400 — the original €1,400 plus an additional €3,000 because I declined to purchase their insurance.
In addition, I was initially required to pay a fuel deposit of €120. When I questioned the additional €3,000 deposit, the staff became noticeably more hostile. Shortly afterwards, they suddenly increased the fuel deposit from €120 to €250 without providing any reasonable explanation.
I found the entire experience to be intimidating, unfair, and highly unprofessional. In my opinion, Goldcar’s staff attempted to pressure me into purchasing products and services that I neither wanted nor was contractually required to buy, while also changing the financial terms and conditions during the rental process. I believe this constitutes unacceptable treatment of a customer.
Very bad service and scam fees
Had to wait for over an hour to pick up car, it is so bad that they charge a fee to skip the queue...
Agressive upselling of insurance even though I had already purchased insurance.
Extra cleaning fee of €36 got charged after car was already signed off as fine. Supposedly slight stain on seat, probably there when we got it.
