Gift card blocked, endless “compliance review”, and unusable services without paying

I bought a legitimate Google Play gift card through an official rewards program in order to pay for YouTube Premium. The reason is simple: YouTube without Premium has become almost unusable due to the overwhelming amount of advertising.

The ads are constant, disruptive, and often of extremely questionable quality. Many appear to be outright scams, and some are placed in ways that aggressively pull attention away from the actual video. For people who are easily distracted or sensitive to constant interruptions, this design is incredibly stressful.

So I did what Google clearly wants users to do: pay for Premium.

I redeemed the gift card, the system initially said the balance would be credited, and after confirming it suddenly failed and forced me into a “Payments Compliance” investigation. Now I have a support case with a warning that the investigation may take weeks.

This is an absurd customer experience. You buy a legitimate gift card, you enter the code correctly, and instead of receiving the balance you are treated like a potential fraud case and pushed into a bureaucratic process.

What makes this worse is that some people simply cannot spend days or weeks chasing support tickets and fighting broken systems. Some customers rely on services that just work because dealing with endless forms, investigations and support loops is not realistically possible.

A gift card should be the simplest thing in the world: enter the code, receive the credit. Instead, legitimate customers are forced into compliance reviews while the platform itself is flooded with aggressive advertising and questionable ads.

If large companies create systems where paying customers have to fight to use something they already paid for, something is fundamentally broken.

Google Photos gets worse and worse

Google keeps making Google Photos worse and worse. Every time there’s an update, the app gets worse. With the latest update, some photos are randomly larger than others which makes the view layout, very messy and difficult to use. Also, Google Photos is having issues syncing with iPhone photos.

Holiday Inn Doncaster - Wedding

We had our wedding at Holiday Inn Doncaster on Saturday 28th February 2026.

Our wedding was absolutely fantastic from start to finish! The entire team went above and beyond to make our day truly special. Nothing was too much trouble — the staff couldn’t do enough for us and our guests, always attentive, friendly, and professional.

Everything ran so smoothly, which meant we could completely relax and enjoy every moment. The atmosphere, the service, and the attention to detail were simply fabulous. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience and would wholeheartedly recommend this venue to anyone planning their special day. Thank you for making it so perfect!

Maps addresses are wrong

Cwmynyscoy road NP45SP still shows up as Dingle Road the one above .. despite emails and corrections or suggestions via Google maps amd email nothing has been done about it..

Will Google be refunding the petrol loss too all the taxi drivers that come to this road???? that cannot drive economically
..with the wrong and false information that you provide...

Sort it out... I have had enough of informing you that this is wrong......

A court is a number of tall buildings surrounding a square of sorts, it does not define the name of the road....
it makes it a separate entity entirely..

A Creator's Dilemma

A Creator's Dilemma: Loving the Google Ecosystem, but Trapped by Silent Downgrade Policies

I need to have a serious conversation about the billing UI and policies being written into modern subscription services—specifically for those of us who practically live in the Alphabet/Google ecosystem.

Let me preface this by saying I am a massive advocate for Google. As a SecOps engineer and a digital creator building a historical archive (Papa's Tales and Treasures), I rely on their infrastructure daily.

They have been incredibly generous to the community with world-class free apps like Gmail, and their cloud storage pricing is undeniably fair and reliable. (Though we do need to have a separate intervention about the new smart displays dropping the Android OS—but I digress!)

However, I’ve hit a frustrating UI and billing trap that I think needs serious attention from the product and billing teams.

Over my time using their premium generative tools, I accrued a balance of roughly 24,000 paid processing credits. But here is the catch: when I went to the management portal to adjust and downgrade my current subscription tier, the system processed the change without a single warning or confirmation screen indicating that my accrued credits would be forfeited.

I only discovered after the fact that my entire balance is now slated to be wiped out completely on March 7th.

To the UI designers and policy writers: Why is adjusting a subscription tier treated as an immediate asset forfeiture, and why is there no explicit warning in the user flow before it happens?

This "use it or lose it" mechanic—especially when executed silently—forces loyal creators into a frantic race to burn through 24,000 credits before an arbitrary deadline. It feels punitive, and it doesn't match the otherwise creator-friendly ethos that Google usually champions.

We are the ones feeding your platforms, testing your algorithms, and advocating for your tools. I want to keep supporting the ecosystem, but we need subscription policies and interfaces that respect the assets we've paid for.

Have other creators or tech professionals run into this exact "silent downgrade and lose everything" trap? How can we advocate for fairer billing mechanics? Okay got about 5 more minutes

I find the Google books Partners a complete waste of time.

My books has been on their platform for years, and hasn't made me a dime.

I spoke to customer service specialist who just kept fobbing me off, making useless suggestions, with no actual responsibility of promoting themselves.

I have lost all confidence in humanity for these ambitious beliefs.

Not as reliable in the last few years

Google hasn't been as reliable in the last few years, often throwing up junk/nonsense/shopping results not asked for nor specified in the search terms. And deleting Google reviews. Even some of my 2, 3, 4 star reviews (at least a few sentences in length) have been removed (either by Google or the business?) after an hour or a few weeks later, or blocked immediately, but some other reviews containing swearing, spam, trolling are kept. So it's not really an accurate reflection of everyone's opinion about that organisation.

Google shadowbanning legit positive reviews from real customers!

They keep shadowbanning people's legitimate and honest reviews for no reason and they just give you excuses afterwards, instead of fixing the issue and reinstating the real and legit reviews. On the other hand there are plenty of fake accounts that post reviews that violate their own policies and they still allow them online without second thought. If it is an ai algorithm issue just hire capable technicians in order to address the issue and fix it once and for all. Otherwise this means plain discrimination and shady practices of prohibition of freedom of speech. I was considering in buying some google products but after such an unethical behavior, I think I will pass...
