Very poor installation of private potable water service.

I moved into a house in August 2025. It has a private water supply consisting of a Stuart Turner well lift pump, a sediment filter and an Atlas UV purification reactor which was fitted by GWC Water and Drainage Services Ltd. This company is known locally as Cockburns.

The components used were satisfactory but the fitting (in February 2025) by Cockburns was contrary to manufacturers installation guidance.

The Atlas UV reactor contains a UV lamp which must be replaced annually. The installation instructions explicitly state that room should be allowed to replace the lamp, which normally is a simple operation.

Cockburns fitted the UV reactor in such a way that it was impossible to change the lamp as per manufacturers instructions and instead, needed the reactor and plumbing to be disconnected in order to fit a new UV lamp, making a simple annual task well within a consumers ability into a plumbing task that would put off most consumers. They also didn't fit the UV controller as instructed and left it below the reactor level. The pipework leaked and the controller had to be replaced and fitted above the reactor.

When I contacted Cockburns they said that they would come and look at it on a paid call-out basis. I surmised this was good money following bad, so declined.
