The host was responsive and quick to reply throughout, which I appreciated. However, the issues we encountered were serious and I had to resolve many of them myself. The property was not cleaned to an acceptable standard on arrival. The bed sheets were dirty and needed replacing; the host purchased part of the bedding, but I had to buy the rest and remake the bed. I also found another guest’s used underwear in the property, dirty crockery that had to be washed before use, and a clump of hair in the shower that was dismissed.
Security was the bigger concern. The back door did not shut or lock properly because the screws weren’t fixed into the wall, so the villa was not secure. It was fixed within about 12 hours, but we spent a night in the property knowing it was unsecured. There was no safe and no additional deadlock on the front door, which made us uneasy about access by cleaners, workmen, or previous guests if codes weren’t changed regularly.
Noise was also an issue, with very loud music from a neighboring property clearly audible even with doors and windows closed. When I asked for a security contact number, the host did not provide one. Due to these issues, we left three nights early and booked alternative accommodation. Our request for a partial refund was denied, and I had to involve Airbnb to help resolve it.
