AVOID HERTZ at all costs. They dishonestly placed additional insurance fees and another fee on my agreement DESPITE me verbally declining them in person. This is criminal fraud by false representation... See more

Van hire via 24/7 app - recommended!
Booked a van for 2 hours via their 24/7 app - delighted with the experience. You have to install the app, give Bluetooth, location & camera permissions but, having done that it worked perfectly. Pickup location was convenient and price good value. On pickup you use the app to take condition photos, but that’s before you can get in & drive it so if it’s close against a wall the pics may not show all the pre-existing damage. Same routine on drop off. All worked well - recommended. 👍
Systematic customer abuse
I rented a car from Hertz near Manchester Airport in the UK and when I returned it, no one was there to walk the vehicle with me and I received a bill for £400 for damage I did not cause. Along with the bill, they sent me pictures of a car that I didn’t rent (the license plate was different) and when I attempted to contact them via both email and phone on multiple occasions, no one responded. I even reached out to my local MP for help and they failed to respond to him. I would avoid using Hertz wherever you are in the world as this seems like an internal policy, systematically applied to its customers to extract additional revenue. It warrants investigation by the authorities. At scale this policy has likely bilked millions from customers.
Disturbing, do not trust
Do not trust this company, after spending 20 minutes explaining to the clerk at Málaga airport that I did not want to purchase any additional cover and even showing him that I had already bought my own extra cover, he still maliciously added the cover £250 to the document he asked me to sign. And after returning the car in perfect condition they charged this amount to my card saying I had signed the document to purchase additional cover. Please be very careful when signing any of their documents they maliciously add charges that you did not agree to, probably because they make a commission when selling the cover.
I tried complaining via chat, Via email and even sent an email to the CEO but I am not getting anywhere, none of the replies I received even acknowledge or address what I said about the dishonesty of one of their staff. Please stay away from this company and read everything they ask you to sign or initial.
If I could put a zero here I would
If I could put a zero here, I would I have never come across such an unprofessional company who have charged me £800 for a 2 hour van rental. The van broke down. They aren’t blaming us. They didn’t recover the van until two days later and they are charging us for the late return. There are no human beings to speak to you’ll have to chat which takes at least 10 minutes per response and the questions I ask you are irrelevant to sorting the problem. Please do not use this company.. they said we called the AA we did not. There is a breakdown number inside the van which we called. They answered as hertz They them themselves called the recovery van. The recovery van was supposed to take two hours it actually took two days and we are left for the charges. I am gutted this problem has not been resolved. I will never ever use them . again. When the AA did turn up, they reported there was a fault with the van.. why are you charging us for your repairs?
This has caused myself anxiety. This is very frustrating when you cannot talk to people.. they have numbers listed on their website, but none of them are working.
I would never trust this company again…
I would never trust this company again to deliver any standard of quality service. Not only did 2 of their poorly maintained vehicles break down on me, the customer service experience was absolutely shocking! 2 vehicles in the space of a 12 hour period, not even covering 6 miles between both vehicles. I do not enjoy giving bad feedback, but in this case would highly recommend not to use hertz as a reliable service. The second vehicle I was given broke down as it didn’t have enough ad blue to even get me to a fuel station, resulting in them refusing to offer a third vehicle and asking me to reserve a new booking 12 o clock at night when I needed the van for 8 the next morning.
They have offered a full refund, as a bare minimum to compensate for the days wasted time, and the following days failure as a consequence of their failure to deliver a satisfactory service.
Never again will I choose hertz.
I urge the members of the public to…
I urge the members of the public to desist from these conmans and fraudsters. We booked a van for 14£/hrs plus 3£ insurance. We got the Van for 2hrs and the amount accumulated to £34 respectively.Little did we know there were other hidden charges. We struggled to start the van, no one around to help. We had to study their app for how to use it. Later we have been charged a hefty amount of £56. We spoke with the customer team a lady called Isabelle. She started talking nonsense. Never use this service. They are robbers and should be sued and banned to operate
Will take your money
I was let down by a rental company and Hertz stepped in so used them. Good price of £66.40, fuel was full to full although a deposit taken just in case I bring back not refiled. Car was filed, returned the car, checked bank when I returned from my trip and they had taken the full amount of nearly £250. Went on the website but nothing works including the chat facility. Eventually call the airport where I had rented only to be told that because I used a debit card, they take the lot. This was not explained to me at all. He then said I had to wait 10 days for a refund! How do I tell the companies who I pay by direct debit that there is no money left? I have sent an email pleading they refund immediately but not holding my breath. How this is allowed I do not know.
Awful experience!
Got charged a Sundry fee on my credit card when I already paid it! Then tried to get my money back and was sent from one email address to the other. Then they couldn’t find my reservation number or my credit card details! And this while I still had the car! I still don’t have my money back!
The left hand does not know what the right hand is doing in this company! Such a big name and such bad service. I will definitely not rent from Hertz/Dollar/Thrify/Firefly group again. Avis here I come!
Expensive hidden extras
Steer clear of this company as the hidden charges are ridiculous.
So upon collecting the keys at Belfast international I was told that I either had to take out a £29 insurance (even when I have my own annual hire car excess insurance) or had to leave a £1400 deposit. I chose to leave a £1400 deposit but only had my debit card which they would not accept. They didn’t accept my Revolut card either and would only accept a credit card which I didn’t have one with me that I could use. Then I was charged £25 because we planed to cross the boarder with the car. Plus they then said they needed to take the cost of a full tank of petrol from me which would be reimbursed if I brought the car back with a full tank.
So I’d paid £40 online for one day car hire. And an additional £219 has been taken out of my account and I’m assuming/hoping that some of that will be reimbursed because I made sure to bring it back with a full tank. But even so nearly £50 of hidden extra costs for one days hire after I’d already paid £40 online. If I’d have know up front I would not have booked with them.
The car we got was fine (struggled getting up the hills and I had to drop into second or third to get it up the hills). It got us there and had some nice features like parking cameras on and Apple car play which is why they get two stars. But the hidden costs were disappointing and I will not be ever using hertz again for this reason.
Appauling service AVOID at all costs
One star is too much it should be 0 stars got to the van and could not unlock it due to the app not working it required a selfie but would not process one over an hour on that stupid live chat with some foreign person proaly in another country only to get cut off and had to start again They wanted us to log out and wait 10 mins and re try that would of left us wit just under 40 mins of a 2 hour rental left IF it worked as a result we lost a very expensive unit that we had being looking for for 4 years because we could not get it that day
They dont care as long as they keep getting suckers to pay for an attrocious service the whole thing is unfit for purpose
for the petrol-only Nissan Qashqai
for the petrol-only Nissan Qashqai, a full tank is 55 litres. So your fill cost is simply:
Cost (€) ≈ 55 × local €/L petrol price.
Quick totals (Euro 95, early Nov 2025 averages):
• Belgium (~€1.55/L): ~€85 and they charge me 134.48 EUR.
Prime example of greed and gluttony
Prime example of greed and gluttony. Biblical levels. I brought the car back 2 days earlier and was still charged a refuel fee at the insanely extortionate price 1.05 per kWh. The vehicle had 70% battery, at a public charge to get 100% it’s £5-£10 but shameless hertz £30. Have some grace. Have some integrity. Pinching pennies losing pounds.
Absolute scumbag company
Absolute scumbag company. They claimed a minor paintwork scuff on the bumper and stole £1200 from my account.
Do not use this company. They are utterly vile and incompetent.
Hertz Belfast city airport
Hertz Belfast city airport
Collection was fine. I guess they need this to go smoothly to get your card details. Rented the car for three days. It was driven a minimal distance as we were visiting friends.
I was told there was no damage recorded on the car and to check which I did. I took photos of a few chips and a minor mark to the bumper. The seats were heavily stained front and back and the car was dirty making it difficult to see any damage.
It was returned as it was picked up. Petrol was brimmed. No one at the desk so had to leave the keys.
I still was charged £25. No email explaining why, just money taken. I suspect it would have been more if I hadlnt taken pictures and uploaded them to the agreement.
I’d avoid using them and get a bus to a rental company away from the airport. And definitely not use hertz.
Ripped off …
booked an SUV and was given a family estate with stiff suspension.....no other options..
The booking cost £110 on the app when I returned the vehicle I was charged and extra £120 for a chip.on.one of wheel.alloys ans £105 for not topping the tank up as I had to rush the.car back and hour earlier than I booked as the office garage rental insisted I bring it in earlier ...so I booked the car for £110 and ending up.beinh charged £368 ...TOTAL RIP OFF they just want to hit extra charges where they can
Left stranded at Girona with 93 year old and 6 month old …
Arrived at Girona airport to find that the Hertz office had closed one hour previously despite them having my full flight details. Found a second office in the car park which stated it was open till 2200 that was also closed. So here I am stranded with a 93-year-old father and a six month old granddaughter an hour by car from our destination. I therefore had to get a taxi but the cost of €180. I had to return the following day via train and bus further cost of €60. This was also a day out of my holiday. The staff for the Hertz office are very apologetic and said that I should’ve been told that the office was closed. I collected the car midway to the motorway a warning sign appeared the car after 15 minutes telling me to go no further due to an engine issue. I return the car to Hertz who reluctantly gave me a second car. I have tried to get refunds for taxis and trains giving proof of purchases via my credit card statement, but Hertz are insisting that I must produce receipt. It’s almost like they thought I was making it up absolutely disgusting. I will never use Hertz again.
Avoid hertz 24/7!!!
Booked a van via hertz 24/7 app.
Arrived at the pickup location and found 2 vans at the spot. The app wouldn't allow me to start the rental as no vehicle was assigned. Contacted support via chat (no option to call) and was strung along for 20 mins and finally told that both vans were under maintenance and that they had "system issues".
The support person advised me I wouldn't be charged and that Hertz would provide compensation.
They've subsequently charged me...
It's difficult to see how this operation could be managed any worse. Utter garbage
The worst experience ever
The worst experience ever. Please avoid!!! You can not contact anyone by phone. They charge your card as they please and to claim a refund takes forever. I asked for a refund for a double charge and they didn’t even acknowledge or respond to my email for over 12 days. You will regret if you ever deal with them. That’s guaranteed
Pathetic customer service
We received an invoice for an inadvertent traffic violation plus double the cost for administration fees. I paid the cost and received an email thanking me for the payment. Two weeks later I received a letter claiming that the payment was overdue and threatening action from a debt collection agency. I immediately emailed information proving that the invoice had been paid. No response was received for two weeks despite follow up emails. A response was eventually received with a mild apology for the distress caused.
The strange
We arrived three minutes shy of the estimated time, hearts buoyed by punctuality's quiet triumph. The air hummed with anticipation as the bus rolled into view, its engine purring like a contented beast. Out stepped the driver, a vision of joviality incarnate—cheeks flushed, eyes twinkling beneath a cap that seemed to perch jauntily upon his brow. He greeted us with a grin that could melt the frost from winter's grasp, only to deliver words that twisted the moment into farce: "I've cancelled the ride, you see. Feeling a bit under the weather."Yet, oh, the irony! For this man appeared the very picture of robust satisfaction, as if he'd just savored a feast fit for kings—lips still glistening from some midday repast, his belly contentedly rounded. He whistled a merry tune, light as a lark's flight, betraying not a hint of ailment but rather the glow of untroubled bliss. "Get a cab," he chirped, that smile unwavering, a Cheshire cat vanishing into the ether. And with that, he climbed back aboard his empty chariot, the Fun Bus rumbling away into the distance, leaving us stranded in a cloud of exhaust and disbelief. What strange alchemy turns service into spectacle, courtesy into caprice? In that fleeting absurdity, we glimpsed the capricious heart of the world itself—laughing, ever laughing, at our foolish faith in plans.
