I'm being generous on the 3 star.
I'm being generous on the 3 star.
I had my reservation for over 3 months. Had to wait 30-40 minutes for a bus from the airport to take us to the rental facility. Once there, they did not have my reserved car. had to wait another 30-40 minutes. They had another vehicle but wanted the upcharge to rent it. I declined. I will give that this was at LAX but still., there were many people that night waiting for their vehicles that they did not have. The staff was the only reason they got to 3 stars. They tried their best. The car also didn't have a full tank of gas.
It was fairly smooth and easy

I have rented cars for more than 20…
I have rented cars for more than 20 years. This experience by far was the worse I can remember. I got sent an email that I could skip the line and just go to my car by checking in online the day before I was due to arrive. I did, excited and went ahead and made plans since I thought I did everything asked. Not the case! I arrived to only be put in 4 different lines, shuffled downstairs, upstairs then back downstairs with all my heavy luggage in tow. I called customer service standing in one of the many lines and got No help nor answers; he just kept avoiding answering my question….if I checked in online the day before, why am I having this experience of lines and waiting, why did I need to check in again here. Each customer service agent verified my info was received. That Thursday morning was simply a ginourmous cluster of confusion and no follow through. Did I mention at one point their computers crashed which led to some of the wait time? Seriously, there was a hundred people, maybe more in line also complaining, also livid and I honestly don’t think I would ever put myself through that again especially after traveling across the country and be met with that….? Epic fail Hertz. You did not nor did it seem you were capable on 20 Aug to honor your promise to me of skipping the line and just going to my car. My trip started with one of the worse car rental experiences I’ve ever had. You’ve broken my trust in you and my experience with customer service did not make it better! You abused 3 hours of my time, time I had planned to spend with a friend and couldn’t, time which I’ll never get back. Hertz LAX, do better please!
Lack of signage at new LAX Rental Terminal
I came loaded with a big extra bag this trip. After my flt, then at the giant LAX Rental Car Terminal, the Hertz LAX bus driver let me off in the wrong place - the elevator to the 2nd floor was a 75 yd walk with extra bags in the sun to the big new busy Hertz office.
I think some signage at the bus dropoff couldve been improved. The people in colored shirts the driver said were helping were walking away from me and helping others.
My name was supposed to be on a screen inside the office and there was no "name board" in there.A nice Hertz lady walked me outside to the correct elevators and I found the pick-your-own car area in the garage. The SUV i choose I found had low air pressure in a tire. The staff said choose another car. So I unloaded reloaded everything. Correct air pressure is important - and shows what to expect with other Hertz car maintenance.

Great price in LAX for great car!
Everything that could have gone wrong…
Everything that could have gone wrong did. This is a new location at LAX that houses all of the rental cars and it's not easy to navigate. From where the shuttles drop you off to the main desk for Hertz it's about a 10-minute walk. Once there, if your name is on the board it has the spot number where your car is parked but finding that proves difficult. I picked up the car which smelled like sweat and made my way to the exit. That was one car ahead of me but I waited for maybe 7 minutes before driving up to the booth. Once they're the woman started checking me out and then said I needed the credit card that was used to rent the car. My son had used his and I had to exit the lane, call him to bring the card back and then walk back over to the main desk. I had to wait in line there for 10 to 15 minutes. The woman who is helping me didn't greet me and was not very pleasant. She then told me that the woman at the exit desk was wrong and that I didn't need to show the car and I just needed to show the contract which clearly was on her screen. I was there for a total of 20 minutes waiting for her to print the contract out. I drove back over to the exit Lane and had to wait there for another 15 minutes because I was seven cars deep at this point. They had eight exit kiosks and only three of them were being utilized with all three having up to eight cars in line each. It was the most ridiculous thing I've seen since the dmv.
Later that afternoon when I needed to drop the car off I was stuck in a massive traffic jam and called to extend the rental only to be told that they couldn't do that over the phone and that I would just pay the late fee when I got back. I filled up the car with gas and was an hour late returning a car. When I got to the car return at LAX, which was a simple process at 11:00 p.m., the rep there was kind, pleasant and helpful. 10 minutes later I received a fee on my credit card for gasoline! Thank God I had taken a photo of the gas tank meter, as well as the mileage. The next day I had to call and waste my time trying to get the fee removed. Do better Hertz!
Poor rental car Maintenance.
Great help/service picking up the car - shoutout to the attendant (Karen?) who helped.
Car itself was problematic - change oil light was on the whole rental, tire pressure on the front left tire light was on - not safe!
Great experience
Everything went super smooth. I actually really enjoy being a gold member and just walking straight to my car
