The car was not exactly as big as a Camry, but it was still very much comfortable inside. It managed well and the fuel economy was excellent.

Nice vehicle. Need more help with electronics in car. Still wondering what the extra charge on our credit card is for the day after we turned in nissan rouge. Please respond.

The staff at Green Bay road were very pleasant and helpful to customers but you can tell they are not happy with the company. Management needs to do something about that.

Hertz has been pretty great, but the speed of getting cars is just annoyingly slow. I have rented cars twice in the last month, one at the IAD airport where it took me almost an hour to get a car. An... See more

Smoke and mirrors

Taxes and processing fees are not included in online quoted prices. I was then sent a bill for $135 from “platepass” for tolls. When I called about this I was told that I opted out of toll assistance. I was also told that the transponder must have been erroneously open. They immediately took off $88 for this. I then asked what my toll fees were and they said I had 3 charges for $1.80
Yet due to their admin fees I still owed over $50. It wasn’t until I spoke with management that they waived these fees. All very shady business practices.

Office closed on collection day and no car available once reopened

I booked a rental car for my family of 4 (2 adults and 2 young children) for 03/08/26 - 08/08/26 with Hertz but booked through Canadian Affair. We are from the UK.

Upon arrival at their location at Westin hotel, Halifax the office was closed due to a public holiday. Their website showed it should have been open 08:00 -17:00. A call before setting off was unanswered. I was unable to contact anyone on the numbers provided on the locked Hertz office door and the Westin staff couldn't help. I subsequently booked a taxi back to my accommodation.

The following day I phoned at 0800 straight upon opening, the rental agent claimed he was open the day before but from 10:00 - 12:30 - as a tourist I'm not sure how I was supposed to know that unless advised by Hertz beforehand and their website saying otherwise. During the call I advised i'd be there shortly to collect the car I'd booked. He advised there were no cars available and that he'd call me after midday in the event that one became available. This was ruining our trip as we had made bookings along the Cabot Trail 380km away and had wanted to leave first thing and had missed the use of a car the day before. Fortunately a Canadian friend stepped in and has loaned us a vehicle to allow us to go on the trip.

A refund is now on its way from Canadian Affair/Hertz (£460). I'm absolutely shocked that a company as big as Hertz could act in such an unprofessional way and almost ruin a family holiday. Utterly appalling and the Halifax Westin location should be avoided by all. I will be taking this further.

Late Damage Charges

We were hit with damage charges a week after we returned our vehicle with photos that did not show any conclusive damaed. When contacting customer service they ignored my questions and were absolutely no help at all. This all happened at the San Diego location. I would not recommend using them at all

Do not rent a car from them even for free

I paid the fine and Hertz still charged me 40€ extra apart from the 12€ I paid for the administrative fees
In total I paid 112
While if you paid the fine on time its reduced from 100€ to 50€
This means I paid more than the fine it self
This is a scam

Unprofessional and untrustworthy

Very disappointing service from Hertz - we booked a car for an anniversary weekend trip and on arrival, the agent at Hertz Signal Hill CA greeted us with a mumbled statement about seeing if he could find a car that was available, even though we had booking confirmation a week earlier. He then returned about 10 seconds later to tell us he had no cars available. No apologies, no solutions, no assistance at all. He told us if we wanted to resolve it we would need to call a helpline... How can you allow customers to reserve a rental car but not have anything available? I would have expected at least to be notified before arriving at the rental location so at least we could alter our plans. After receiving some more unprofessional responses because we were questioning how this could happen, we decided our best bet was to cross the street and use Enterprise, who found us a car for the same price in 5 minutes. Clearly they get a lot of customers who have been left stranded by Hertz as we weren't the first. Don't bother with Hertz - go to Enterprise.

I have rented through Hertz multiple times

I have rented through Hertz for the past year used the north Knoxville location and the west Knoxville location. My preferred location is the west Knoxville location. The two gentleman that work there go above and beyond to help. I have been called a head of time from them to let me know that they are waiting on a return and didn't want me to waste gas to just wait. From every interaction I've had and witnessed, I have been in there when they've delt with unhinged individuals and I was in awe of how professional they were. From what I have seen it seems most of the negative reviews are from people who do not understand how businesses operate. Love the west Knoxville location and always recommend people to them.

Treated bad

An employee should never be so mad that they throw things away like personalized cups and keys and take the money that's in a car there was absolutely a bunch of change in the car I had to return due to a situation yes the car was not clean it was a lift car rental they make us take dogs they make us take animals so there was a lot of dog years in the car of course I was left in a compromising situation which caused me to not be able to clean the car out myself and there was food left in the car overnight accidentally because the car was accidentally locked so for an employee to be so mad that they just started throwing things away and then lie about it is absolutely crazy and instead of saying something like sending a notification hey your things are going to be thrown away I drove all the way up there to collect my stuff for them to tell me that they threw it away not cool I've always been patient I've always waited I never was rude when I was up there I never rushed them and to be treated like this is absolutely crazy I was in the program for almost a year actually I do think I made a year.... It's crazy because they clean filthy cars out all the time but for them to be absolutely angry doesn't give them a right to do that they could have put my stuff to the side and left it at that

Extremely Unsupportive Staff

The staff at the Florence office was absolutely not helpful & was lazy & inefficient. I was to pickup the rented car at 12 Noon (as my start time was 12 noon) on 1st August 2026. I reached exactly at 12 noon & the lady representative was closing the office at that time. When I told that I need to pick up my rented car, she said "our office is closed". I showed her the time that it is 12 noon & my pick up time is 12 noon, she said now I am closing the office & cannot help & if I had reached even a minute earlier, she would have given me the car. The event resulted in an inconvenient situation for me & my family, other than we spending money on Uber for reaching & going back from there.

Scam

I had a very disappointing experience with Hertz.

I rented a taxi from them and paid extra to increase my mileage allowance. Every additional mileage package was clearly documented on my invoices, and I had already paid for it.

However, when I returned the vehicle, they ignored the extra mileage I had purchased and charged me as if I had never paid for the additional kilometers. As a result, I was forced to pay around €500 for "extra mileage" that I had already paid for.

I contacted them multiple times, provided all the invoices as proof, and tried to resolve the issue by email and phone. Unfortunately, they stopped responding and ignored my requests.

I expected much better customer service from a company like Hertz. Be sure to double-check all your invoices and final charges if you rent from them.

Hertz double charged my CARD - no reply!

Hertz double charged my card by mistake. I emailed customer service outlining the problem clearly. I was charged twice for the same congestion charge fee on my card.

The only response (repeated) is that someone sends me the (one) invoice for the congestion charge.

Its as if no one reads the email.

In the UK, you cannot speak to customer service. You cannot chat to customer service, only a chatbot, and later an employee, who suggests you can email customer service. I will never rent from them again.

My experience wasn’t great,

My experience wasn’t great,. I have been waiting a week for someone to contact me about my rental. The car was damaged when we rented and noted by the Hertz person at desk. When I turned my car in they are trying to charge me for a dent that was in car when I rented.

Don’t waste your time or money

Rode with a friend to bring his Lyft/Hertz rental to get serviced. We show up get the oil changed no problem and they even changed one of the tires no problem. Went back to Hertz and one of the service guys noticed a small plastic piece was missing, mind you I disclosed this information the day before my appointment. Also letting them know the piece had just fallen off, but I have the missing piece so they can put back on. They then notified me that the car had been in a collision, even though it hadn’t been and I wasn’t able to renew my Lyft rental. I explained to them that I live three hours away and hadn’t made arrangements for a return trip. The Hertz Lyft employees were very unpleasant to deal with and seem to be aggravated when asked to do their jobs. I will never go back to this location in Harvey Louisiana right outside of New Orleans.

Fraudulent Car Rental

I reserved a car to be picked up at my local location for a Saturday. When I arrived Hertz was closed. It seemed odd so I called as was told that the location I reserved a vehicle for was not open on Saturdays. Imagine my frustration and anger. Why would you allow me to rent a car for a Saturday pickup if you don’t even operate on weekends. The clincher is that I received text messages and emails from Hertz to remind me of my rental, time and place. I desperately needed that rental and had to go to Enterprise and ended up paying more money. I WILL NEVER patronize Hertz ever again. I will be relating this experience to everyone one I know.

PlatePass tried to steal $119.95 from me when I declined their service and accrued $0.00 in tolls. Unreal.

I had a great experience with Hertz at the rental window, using the car, and returning it. The problem was your partner PlatePass. A couple of weeks after returning the car, they sent me a bill for $119.95 even though i didn’t request PlatePass and didn’t trigger any tolls! I requested and got an accounting of the tolling activity on the vehicle, and it was $0.00. I appealed it and they threatened to charge me $590. I disputed it with their own accounting of what was owed, and without informing me of a resolution, they simply billed my credit card the $119.95 through you. I stopped the transaction with my credit card company and turned the case over to the DC office of the attorney general’s consumer complaints division. I am shocked at the deceptive practices, the inability to resolve this through appeals, and your business partner’s attempt to steal both my time chasing down these charges and money that I do not owe them or you. My experience with Hertz was fine, but my experience with your business partner PlatePass was so terrible I think you may have lost a customer for life.
