Hertz has been pretty great, but the speed of getting cars is just annoyingly slow. I have rented cars twice in the last month, one at the IAD airport where it took me almost an hour to get a car. An... See more

My car was given to me an hour late by…

My car was given to me an hour late by Hertz because they had run out. I could pay almost double and get into a ready up graded model. The car I took has a tire issue I did not notice till I finally needed the highway. Any time over 50 mph it felt like a tire was coming off. I called the hertz help line and they said “I can’t help you with that”. I called the location I rented from about 6 times after there stated hours of operation. No answer and the hertz phone would hang up on me. I had to be at my driving destination by 8:30 morning. The rental place did not open till 9. The only thing good about hertz is advertising. I will never use hertz again. By far hertz has been my worst rental experience. Hertz needs to add a negative rating.

Very disappointing experience with Hertz

Very disappointing experience with Hertz due to poor communication, hidden costs, and dismissive customer service.

We booked a 13-day rental specifically for a road trip through Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. Hertz Netherlands confirmed that cross-border travel was permitted and instructed us to contact Hertz Kazakhstan to arrange the required formalities. We did so six weeks before our trip, clearly stating our travel dates and asking what was required. Hertz Kazakhstan never responded.

At pickup, we were suddenly charged an additional USD 190 to take the car into Kyrgyzstan. This substantial fee had never been disclosed or included in our reservation estimate. With our entire itinerary already arranged around the rental, we were left with no realistic alternative but to pay.

When we questioned the unexpected charge, the employee was dismissive and repeatedly responded along the lines of, "It is what it is," while denying responsibility and raising his voice. Despite taking the additional payment, Hertz had not even prepared the required border documents. We therefore had to return the following day to collect them.

The car itself is good and matches the class we booked. However, that does not excuse the lack of transparency, failure to respond, unexpected charge, and unprofessional treatment. We contacted Hertz well in advance specifically to avoid this situation. For an expensive international rental, this level of service is unacceptable.

PLEASE READ BEFORE RENTING

PLEASE READ BEFORE RENTING: Hertz Italy has wrongfully charged us €1,500 for pre-existing vehicle damage under Rental Agreement #34547821.

At pickup, we spotted unrecorded bumper damage and asked the Hertz agent to come look. He confirmed we could leave, explicitly promising he would log it. Instead, just minutes after drop-off, our credit card was hit with the €1,500 charge.

We have been disputing this ever since. Hertz is trying to get out of it at every opportunity. We have pickup photographs and videos proving the damage was there, and if Hertz actually wanted to know the truth, they could review their own CCTV footage and see their employee reviewing the damage with us.

This all appears to be part of a deliberate scam to defraud people of money, as others have had similar experiences. Save yourself the stress and completely avoid Hertz, Dollar, Thrifty, and all other companies within the Hertz group.

Hertz car hire which charged me more & gave me a lesser car than I booked

I hired a car for 2 weeks using hertz via QEEQ. The Nissan Rogue car when I picked it up was really nice but the boot was broken. They swapped it for a Chevrolet Blazer which is rented at half the price of the Rogue when I checked after the holiday. They told me it was an "upgrade" which feels like they were poking fun at me.

They also mis-sold me the toll package at £240. I thought I would be charged on a per use basis as in Europe. I feel like I have been taken for a ride.

I would not recommend using this site as it feels completely untrustworthy. I have rented holiday cars previously and have never felt like I've been ripped off.

I think you need to be able to trust comparison sites to use reputable companies, that leave people feeling that that have been cheated.

Exceptional Customer Service from Raquel!

I had an outstanding experience with the car rental company, and I especially want to recognize Raquel for her exceptional customer service, at the Philadelphia International AirPort. From the moment she assisted me, she was professional, friendly, attentive, and genuinely committed to making sure I had a great experience.

Raquel went above and beyond to take care of me and made the entire rental process smooth, easy, and stress-free. Her patience, positive attitude, and willingness to help truly stood out. It’s not often that you encounter someone who takes such genuine pride in providing excellent service.

Raquel is a tremendous asset to the company. She represents what outstanding customer service should look like, and because of her, I would absolutely recommend this location to others.

Thank you, Raquel, for taking such great care of me! You made a great experience even better. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Without a doubt..

Without a doubt... the worst Hertz rental location. I travel quite often - all other Hertz locations (airports) are miles above this "broke down" rental location on Cobb Parkway. Highly understaffed, disorganized, long wait times and all of the issues are due to the understaffed situation. Anytime I need a local rental - Enterprise is the answer - and when Hertz send me a "how did we do" - I tell them the same issue over and over - but nothing is done at Corp to improve the rental experience - it is almost as if they really don't want to improve. However, the staff is always doing their best - and that is surprising considering the stress level at this locatiob

Kansas City Airport

Kansas City Airport

First car had already been rented to somebody else who was in the car. Second car had a flat tire. Third car had a dent. They took a report of the dent, gave me a copy, and I also took photographs.

After return, I got an email saying there was a dent. I sent the photographs. I mentioned they had filled out their own slip. I asked for an apology. Pretty simple.

I got a response completely ignoring anything I had said. Then I got a direction to some outside insurance collection. At all levels they just ignore any response. They want to collect and have me fix the dent that was there when they rented the car.

This is extremely dangerous. What if their own employee had not seen the dent? They must be charging people for preexisting damange all the time if they have no process for listening to a customer response or looking at their own cars.

They won’t answer the phone. Even if you press button five as if you are an insurance agent or local, it just rings, then goes busy and hangs up. You can call over and over—they just hang up.

No management email. No management phone number. No contact. They don’t want to hear from you.

Customer service says to talk to collections. This might be a crime or class action if they are repeating this behavior more than once.

Obviously, this place is a mess. And Hertz is a mess for having no system to listen to customers. I want to hear from the manager of this location,.

My experience with Hertz was very…disappointing

My experience with Hertz was very unprofessional, I booked a rental early part of the week, to travel for a family member funeral. I get a call from an agent at
5:40 p.m. the day before I pick up the rental, he began to tell me his boss told him to call me and inform me that they will not be able to rent me a vehicle for a one way trip, I’m driving in traffic, he mentioned his boss is gone and they are closed!!! What kind of service is that!! I asked him if I could call him back at the number he called me from, of course yes you can, but guess what they were closed, did he bother to call me back No! Please if you are looking for a reliable trustworthy rental company Do not contact Hertz!!

DO NOT USE!

DO NOT USE!!
If there are no issues then it’s a seamless, quick and easy rental however if there are any issues then you’re in trouble.
I dropped my rental car off and discovered once I got home that I had been charged 6103€! This charge was due to them claiming I had gone over my mileage limit….by 13000km in 9 days!!!! Physically impossible to do yet at no point did anyone question the numbers they were typing in or the invoice they were submitting.
I rang the following day and they agreed that it was an error on their part. 6 weeks later and I’m still waiting to be refunded.
Disgraceful and disgusting company

Ontario airport-Naomi was wonderful!

I dropped my rental car off at Hertz Ontario airport and was greeted by a wonderful young lady named Naomi. Unfortunately, I had a couple of issues which were of my own making. Naomi not only took care of my issues, but she was kind and supportive. Per customer service was outstanding and if I could give her 10 stars I would.

Smoke and mirrors

Taxes and processing fees are not included in online quoted prices. I was then sent a bill for $135 from “platepass” for tolls. When I called about this I was told that I opted out of toll assistance. I was also told that the transponder must have been erroneously open. They immediately took off $88 for this. I then asked what my toll fees were and they said I had 3 charges for $1.80
Yet due to their admin fees I still owed over $50. It wasn’t until I spoke with management that they waived these fees. All very shady business practices.

Office closed on collection day and no car available once reopened

I booked a rental car for my family of 4 (2 adults and 2 young children) for 03/08/26 - 08/08/26 with Hertz but booked through Canadian Affair. We are from the UK.

Upon arrival at their location at Westin hotel, Halifax the office was closed due to a public holiday. Their website showed it should have been open 08:00 -17:00. A call before setting off was unanswered. I was unable to contact anyone on the numbers provided on the locked Hertz office door and the Westin staff couldn't help. I subsequently booked a taxi back to my accommodation.

The following day I phoned at 0800 straight upon opening, the rental agent claimed he was open the day before but from 10:00 - 12:30 - as a tourist I'm not sure how I was supposed to know that unless advised by Hertz beforehand and their website saying otherwise. During the call I advised i'd be there shortly to collect the car I'd booked. He advised there were no cars available and that he'd call me after midday in the event that one became available. This was ruining our trip as we had made bookings along the Cabot Trail 380km away and had wanted to leave first thing and had missed the use of a car the day before. Fortunately a Canadian friend stepped in and has loaned us a vehicle to allow us to go on the trip.

A refund is now on its way from Canadian Affair/Hertz (£460). I'm absolutely shocked that a company as big as Hertz could act in such an unprofessional way and almost ruin a family holiday. Utterly appalling and the Halifax Westin location should be avoided by all. I will be taking this further.
