Portsmouth good service but uncomfortable treatment from security
8Came in to commercial road portsmouth store to browse and look for a specific dvd. Wasn't especially busy but the security guard was actively following me closely around the store within 2 meters at all times and never spoke to me. I had a rucksack on and I appreciate they watch everyone but I felt uncomfortable and didn't browse for anything else once I found my dvd. Him saying hello to me to know I've been seen and watching from the front would have been enough
Happily when I got to tills, the lady serving was very pleasant and polite, even offering additional purchases which I politely declined. Great service from the team but security could do with cooling off, not everybody is a thief and while I appreciate they have a job to do, you don't want to put off genuine customers like myself.

Hmv fail - long queues & 'de-motivated' staff
Here's a copy of my letter to hmv (re a visit to Portsmouth) & a subsequent request for a (let's face it) measly £20 goodwill payment to compensate for a miserable retail experience. Added emphasis included...

Dear Sirs
That's interesting. Your comments are acknowledged. Regarding your claim that you are 'unable' to offer a goodwill payment prompts further 'feedback'.
Considering how much I have spent in hmv since probably the early 80s across the UK, and how many times a trip to hmv has been sadly punctuated by missing items, long queues, indifferent staff, impolite staff, price anomalies and general disappointing retail experiences (which weren't pursued) it's just additionally disappointing that hmv don't 'want' to make a goodwill payment. Here, the word 'unable' is not applied accurately. Hmv are 'choosing' not to make a goodwill payment and making that choice despite the obvious PR implications.
I was impressed with the conversation with your colleague (who called me) to discuss this issue. You no doubt will share this particular assessment?
However, I'm not impressed with this frankly parsimonious response from a large retailer who seems to make standard UK retail mistakes: not enough tills, unchanging stock and often surly sales staff. I shall share this overall experience with my friends and family. They probably won't be impressed either.

Great store
Great store, friendly staff. My one slight quibble, your website has shown this store as having items in stock, when I went to the shop to purchase them there was no sign of them. Ended up buying them online, but would much prefer to have bought them from a physical shop.
