Our house with a valuation of 500 k has been absolutely ruined by a Howdens design from Redcar branch .
Firstly we were told by the Howdens designer that to fit a Belfast sink quartz was not possible . Hence on his recommendation we went for 11 mm compact laminate . The fitting was dreadful . It did not overlap the sink and is cut too short . Hence we have the most dreadful silicon seal between the sink and the laminate which is completely hideous unsightly unhygienic and is totally wrong . It’s a joke quite frankly .
Alex the redcar manager came out to see it along with the fitter and what amounted to an almighty and down right lie DENIED there was anything wrong ! That was normal ! Really .
It’s been inspected by several joiners who confirm it’s cut short and that compact laminate isn’t suitable.
After further complaints another Howdens manager visited and instantly admitted that it wasn’t right quite amazing really after Alex at Redcar denied all liability . I’m hoping to post pictures on here as to what he thought was acceptable because frankly you will all start laughing .
The second Howdens manager who came to be fair has then given us a replacement 3 metre strip of compact laminate as a replacement. But that’s not the point really as the builder/ fitter denied liability saying the plan was unclear and we have to pay again for a refit .
Secondly we had a breakfast bar in the plans . This was on one side of a 3 metre worktop , the other side being drawers for pans cuttlery etc . Guess what happened?.. after 2 weeks the worktop sagged . The breakfast bar had a hell of movement on it and squeaked like hell . On the other side the sagging caused the drawers not to open as they were catching on the sagging worktop hence we couldn’t access cuttlery plates etc .
Complaining to Redcar branch the manager suggested that we bought and I kid you not a supporting leg to install under the breakfast bar to hold the worktop or purchase additional drawers to fit in the span of the breakfast bar so in effect there was no span left for it to sag .
Stupidly we agreed on the latter . It cost an additional £400 and lost the use of it as a breakfast bar . He adjusted the cutlery draw so it overcame the sag on the other side. This repair lasted a week . You could still see the 3 mm dip in it so no wonder it kept catching .
Another complaint and another Howdens manager came out , he asked why metal support rails hadn’t been fitted . Good question as they were not on the plan . He has supplied us now with support rails but again no fitting . It’s over 3 metres long that worktop and very very thin and not fit for purpose very very clearly .
Thirdly the Lamona dishwasher has leaked at the front seal and the condensation has got into the front cover and ruined it . Not once but twice . Redcar supplied 2 new covers free . Guess what on the second one same issue condensation has escaped and ruined it . So another Howdens manager comes sees it and agreed of the serious problem , calls the Lamona engineer . Engineer fits another seal guess what same problem ! So the dishwasher is being replaced and to be fair Lamona have been excellent indeed .
The kitchen is an utter shambles . Poor inappropriate design badly fitted with incorrect materials used . It’s left my wife and I in total despair and depression an absolute nightmare.
A 500 k house with an unbelievably shambles of a kitchen .
Please do not use this company .
Following on from the patronising reply from Howdens here . I have e mailed them with the details . Guess what no reply and the kitchen remains a shambles with further bows in the compact laminate and the kitchen sink looking shambolic still .
Next stage is getting the press involved.
Don’t you think they’d want to contact me to resolve this instead of constant fobbing off ?
Take your money then not bothered .
Highly dissatisfied.

Purchased a kitchen which we loved with the 12mm worktop. We got recommended a fitter that sounded perfect as on his business card he was a joiner and plumber(NOT),we met him and he was a very nice lad who put me at ease as I'm registered disabled BUT he made that many mistakes to mention he came back a couple of times to fix problems then a major problem with the worktop was I kept cutting and scraping my knuckles every time I opened the draws or cupboards,I messaged him a few times but then he Blocked me, the manager of howdens just kept saying "what do you want me to do about it and we have targets to reach"he didn't understand that it was them who RECOMMENDED HIM because he said we just supply. When I looked into this myself he was given a pack for the 12mm worktops but never used it because if he did like he was supposed to it needed sanding down twice then smoothing down HE DIDN'T DO ANY so don't know what happened to the pack that was delivered. The finish to the kitchen was POOR WORKMANSHIP,SHODDY AND DANGEROUS,He cut corners and the PLUMBING WAS SHOCKING. This has left us with extra bills to pay others to fix. VERY DISAPPOINTED IN HOWDENS
