Would highly recommend staying away from them. Many mistakes were made on my return which would have made me over pay. I did their tax school as well for my own purposes and I don't think any of our class even got a job after which is what they try to make it seem like.

I recently used H&R Block expecting professional guidance and added value during the tax return process. Unfortunately, the service I received was underwhelming and left me frustrated. The representative essentially walked me through a series of basic questions I could’ve answered myself using free tax software or even the IRS website.

What I had hoped would be a detailed and insightful consultation turned out to be a glorified data entry session. No real tax advice, no optimization suggestions, and certainly no added value for the fee I paid. It felt like I was paying someone to do exactly what I could’ve done on my own — with no meaningful difference in outcome.

For a company advertising itself as a professional tax service, I expected more expertise, guidance, and a sense that my return was being handled with strategy rather than just routine.

I hope H&R Block improves its services by offering clearer value, better-trained professionals, and more proactive tax advice. As it stands, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone comfortable doing basic returns themselves.

This is a fake company. They never did anything regarding my taxes, they send fake screen shot and pretend that there are mistakes with the system that I have to fix on my own. I never received any refound, they keep telling lies

If I could give zero stars I would. Whatever you do don’t do your taxes with the “expert” online I paid $15 deposit then in my portal it kept saying I need to pay $109 without deducting the $15 deposit nothing else no communication with a so called “expert” just a money grab. I have called numerous times have emailed even more times asking for my deposit to be refunded as I had lost confidence that they could get me a good return. I am still waiting for them to refund my deposit.

Whatever you do don’t do your taxes with the “expert” online. I had pretty much completed my taxes on my own prior to going to H&R but for some reason was owing so I thought if I go to the professionals they might point out things I didn’t know.
Anyways initially was told $109 and I had a $25 voucher so thought why not.
Not only did they not really provide any useful information it took a lot longer and now trying to charge $179 for a very basic tax return.
So I am now in an even worse situation. Waste of money.
I will be going back to doing my own taxes again.

The accountant made a huge error and she had us pay overpay by a substantial amount. I questioned her quite a bit, but she said it was correct. On a whim, I sent it to our financial person who caught her very large error within 10 minutes. By then it was too late, and we had already overpaid our taxes. So at this point, four months after we overpaid, we have not received a reimbursement check from the IRS. Additionally, they did say they would refund our fee we paid to H&R Block. Today was my 37th attempt at trying to reach them to obtain refund —without success. No one will call me back or email me back. I did try to call the corporate office and I got a very frustrating runaround by an automated computer system that led me nowhere.

H&R Block software is absolute TRASH. I spent hundreds to purchased the highest tier of their tax preparation software to process a complex, multi-state prior year return, and the product was beyond buggy. The software walks you through all of the steps to e-file a prior year return, including charging $19.95 per state for the privilege of e-filing, only to throw a random error at the very last step in the process when the returns are transmitted to the IRS and various state tax agencies. Their customer service is impossible to get in touch with: I called multiple numbers during normal business hours and spent hours trying to navigate H&R's automated phone systems. These systems ended up hanging up on me each time after saying "7:00AM to 10:00PM Central Time, Monday to Friday" despite the fact that I was calling during normal business hours on a weekday! This happened multiple times across multiple days, so it wasn't a fluke: H&R Block's customer service is just that dysfunctional. When I was finally able to talk to a person, they had no answer for why their automated systems hung up on me, and I was informed that Block's software doesn't allow for e-filing of prior year returns. If that is the case, why does the software walk the taxpayer through all the steps for e-filing? The real answer is that H&R Block is just too cheap to pay competent coders to write reliable software with decent UI: They just throw a garbage product onto the market and know people will buy it because of their brand recognition. I asked the phone agent to escalate my case since she wasn't able to provide any actual customer service, and I was surprised when I actually received a call-back later in the same day. Unfortunately, the escalations manager was totally unhelpful and was clearly just reading off of a script. The escalations agent flatly refused to provide any refund for their nonfunctional software and curtly told me that he wasn't willing to help me any further. This company is an embarrassment and doesn't deserve anyone's money. This experience only underscores the need for us to simplify our tax code so that worthless corporation such as this aren't needed!

This was my second year of using H&R Block online to do my federal and state taxes. We were SHOCKED to get a notice from the IRS that we OWED OVER $2,000. We thought that as seniors and using them for filing would be great. Especially, since we received notices from H&R Block stating 'Congrats, your federal return has been submitted to the IRS! There's nothing you need to do now. We'll contact you if any additional info is needed. Otherwise, we'll let you know when your return status has been updated.' THERE WAS NO UPDATE NOR NOTICE OF US OWING MONEY TO THE IRS. H&R BLOCK ARE LIARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

H&R block does NOT honor their calculation guarantee. I put in the total amount of my health insurance premium in H&R block tax software. It said the federal would only allow a portion of my premiums to be deducted and changed the amount on the federal form. When, using H&R block to import the info in the H&R block Utah state tax it imported the entire amount of the premium which is not correct. Utah State only allows you to claim what you claimed on the federal form so the calculation was not correct. I filed a claim with H&R block and they denied it without address this exact issue.

AWFUL EXPERIENCE. My Tax pro, Alain is a nice person BUT he made a grave mistake by entering my earnings TWICE which of course made it appear on my 2023 tax return that I earned twice the amount I actually did which made me have to pay a large amount of taxes. I didn't realize the mistake until a couple months later when my child and I were kicked out of our insurance plan and benefits. I paid for Peace of Mind so the same office had to do an Amendment for me but they also did THAT incorrectly which caused more stress and drama for me. So I had to go back and get ANOTHER amendment and now the IRS wrote to me saying they received it but they will not refund the taxes I paid them so not only did I spend $700 to this H&R Block location and thousands of dollars for taxes I shouldn't have paid BUT it cost me months of stress, time and to top it all off, I lost all that money I should not have had to pay. To add insult to injury the officer manager Catherine Larusso was extremely rude & condescending, shouting and constantly interrupted me each time we spoke on the phone. This woman should NOT be working with the public.
She is extremely mean and unprofessional. Avoid this place.

I paid for my taxes on April 15, and H&R blockhead did not file them. I have credit card receipts. The customer service computerized text machine can't help me, then transferred me to a speech computer! The website wants me to pay the fees AGAIN so I can file my taxes. I WILL NEVER RETURN TO H&R BLOCKHEAD!!!!

I retained them to prepare my taxes; through the process, they advised me to get a Spruce card which they promote. They claimed my return would arrive quicker. I did receive the card and money but they froze my card almost immediately, locking me out of $400! When I called, they told me to verify my ID and sent me a link which never worked (10 times now!). They claimed that security will call - never has and its been almost 2 months! Never again will I use this scam company!

Been using them for 10 years and every year been getting worse but more expensive they set up a track your refund site that doesn't work They make mistakes and still charge you think it is time to do it myself!!!

Will not use H and R Block again. We paid the $109 to file our federal and state taxes, only for them to get rejected ever single time. I have tried to file them about 10 times and every time they come back rejected. I called to get help from someone in customer service, she was very nice, however, just had me submit the exact same information I already submitted, resulting in yet another rejection. I will have to just print and snail mail my returns since they are useless at processing my taxes. I asked if I could get a refund of my money since they will not process my returns and she put me on hold then came back and said I could not get a return of the $109 for some bs reason. They are scamming people advertising they can efficiently and easily file your taxes, when in reality you pay for them to get filed, they won't file or even attempt to fix the issue and refuse to refund the money you paid for their shi**y services. Do not pay this business and do not use them for your taxes.

I engaged Agent Melissa Parks to handle my tax preparation on April 9th at 11219 York Rd, Cockeysville, MD. She promptly scanned all of my documents into the system and informed me that while she could not complete my taxes that same day, she would contact me on either April 11th or 12th to review and finalize the filing. Unfortunately, I never received any follow-up communication from her.

On Monday, April 14th—just one day before the filing deadline—I contacted the office and was informed that Ms. Parks was not present and her availability was unknown. A representative assured me that a message would be relayed to her to call me back urgently. I also contacted the customer service line, where another representative scheduled a call with Ms. Parks for Tuesday, April 15th (the tax deadline). Regrettably, Ms. Parks failed to return my call on Monday and did not honor the scheduled call on Tuesday.

Melissa Parks demonstrated a concerning level of unprofessionalism and unreliability. She neglected to provide even a brief communication to inform me that she would not be completing my return. Her failure to fulfill her responsibilities placed me under significant and unnecessary stress, scrambling to meet the filing deadline at the last minute. I cannot recommend her services based on this experience.

DO NOT GO Here – Charged my Elderly Parents $800 and Posted a Fake 5-Star Review. I booked an appointment for my elderly parents at 891 Upper James St #108, Hamilton, ON L9C 7N1 location. They were charged $800 for two simple tax returns (CPP, OAS, and pensions only), which is completely unreasonable. The person who did the taxes, Ali, did not explain the fees properly beforehand. Additionally, a 5-star review was posted under my name without my knowledge or consent.

I filed my 2024 tax returns with H&R Block early so I could get my return early.
I get a letter from the IRS that they did not get all the forms. H&R Block sent it in electronically and messed up. Then tell me to send it in. I paid over 300 dollars for the service. They make a mistake and won’t help me out or take care of it. The quote they stand behind you is a false advertisement. Because they don’t. Now I have a headache doing all this and fixing their mistake.

I will never use HR block again for my taxes. I paid $95 extra for the tax pro review, had a virtual video appt scheduled with her and she never showed up. Extremely unprofessional and a waste of money. Customer service will not issue me a refund, instead they hire unreliable and unprofessional "tax professionals" to "do" your taxes and "give you advice". Very disappointed.

I received a notice back in November of 2024 regarding a possible assessment from the DOR for our 2021 tax return. I made multiple attempts to contact a tax rep at HR block, with ZERO response.

When I did finally get ahold of someone, probably 1.5 months later, I was told we needed to file an amended return, as there was a missing W2 on the original return and we had to pay almost $400 back to the DOR.

Fast forward a bit, it is now April and I am still fighting this, they are denying my claim (their "peace of mind" option) stating I never gave the documentation to the original prep person, which is completely inaccurate.

This company is IMPOSSIBLE to get in touch with. Their customer service people are rude and I was hung up on once, one person sent me to some random banking center which I asked to speak to "client claims," then a third rep told me "client claims" has no direct line to call and everything had to be done via email.

What kind of joke of a company does this? How can they sit here and charge me hundreds of dollars for "peace of mind" never stating EVERYTHING HAD TO be submitted online and then accuse me of lying and deny my claim.

This company is an embarrassment and shouldn't be allowed to "help" people with their taxes. It seems like a scam and false advertising.

I spoke with client claims department when someone FINALLY returned my phone call and they again, insisted I never provided the documents and continue to deny my claim.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY + ESPECIALLY DO NOT PAY FOR "PEACE OF MIND" because it is far from what they provide.

I opted for a remote tax filing and was assigned a tax expert. He did not start processing my file for three weeks. I had to call Hrblock customer service and then he started the process. Still the communication via Hrblock messaging system is slow as the tax expert replies with a delay of one or two days and won't be available on phone. When he called me, he only asked for the documents, but did not take time to explain the breakdown of the taxes. In the end CRA disallowed some of the refunds. I now have to follow up with CRA. I will not recommend the service from Hrblock.
