Virksomheden H. Skjalm P. blev etableret som detailbutik i de historiske omgivelser på Nikolaj Plads i 1953 af Hagbarth Skjalm Petersen og hans hustru Lisbeth Westergaard. Hagbarth Skjalm Petersen var et “enfant terrible”, der altid ønskede at gå sine egne veje. Det var i H. Skjalm P., at designbevidste københavnere kom, når de ville se på og anskaffe sig de seneste nyheder inden for boligtekstiler, brugskunst og køkkenredskaber. Skjalm´s holdning var, at der i produktudviklingen skulle være en “rød tråd” samtidig med, at der til stadighed skulle forkuseres på nyskabelse udover det sædvanlige. Han var således altid en af de første, der introducerede nye farver, former og grafiske udtryk. I begyndelsen af 80’erne, begyndte firmaet at importere store mængder af designvarer fra England og det var starten på et voksende en gros salg. Sidenhen har det udviklet sig til et anerkendt design-brand, som præsenterer en ny kollektion hvert halve år, med udgangspunkt i stifteren af firmaets filosofi om nyskabende designs baseret på naturmaterialer i god kvalitet og med et skandinavisk look.

Racist staff
The staff was extremely passive-aggressive and exhibited racist behavior. Instead of offering assistance, they (one overweight woman and one elderly) stood in the background, whispering loudly about my presence. It's 2024, and there's no place for racism.
