Do not even try that.

Do not even try that. Offering rentals from other sites that requires registration fee, can not cancel the registration immediately, so you pay for a month. Totally unuseful and not free. I have only little experience now with how and where to search and not pay for that so can recommend only entree.nu for flats and houses for longer rental period, mostly social rentals.

Good experience

Good experience, subscribed to a premium after getting an email with a home which seemed interesting to us. The site let's you contact lessors and view pretty much all the houses.

Be prepared to bring a fat wallet, housing is expensive in Amsterdam!

Offering rooms from other sites that requires registration fee

After applying for several places, in the next day, I started receiving a chain of automatically generated e-mails, which stated that I have to register for another website, of course with the registration fee. After asking for an explanation, I did not receive it.
Of course, I instantly unsubscribed from the premium account. Apparently, even if you use the portal for one day, and unsubscribe on the second day you are still required to pay for two months. This, as I noticed, already appears in other reviews and one cannot blame them for establishing a 'great policy'.
Regardless of that, it appears as the portal itself works as 'google', where you search for housing but still are required to pay for other portals after trying to contact the owners.

My story:

The first e-mails came in the day when I applied for the apartments (21.07.18) under:
"Bevestiging reactie op Kamer Julianapark en omgeving, Utrecht" (Informed me that my reaction is given to the owner).

In the second day, I received e-mails in the same order from 'Select huur', which informed me:

U bent bij ons aan het juiste adres voor een leuke huurwoning in uw gewenste regio!

Om in aanmerking te kunnen komen voor ons aanbod dient u lid te zijn van ons. U kunt zich eenvoudig aanmelden via onze website select huur.nl
Zonder inschrijving nemen wij géén aanvragen in behandeling.

Onze gehele website is actueel en houden wij elke dag bij. De woningen die wij op onze website hebben gepubliceerd zijn daarom direct beschikbaar vanaf de aangegeven datum.

Even assuming that 'Select Huur' is not a 'daughter company' of 'Huizenmarkt' but simply a company that posts their offers on the website of Huizenmarkt, two questions appear:
1. Why was such a reaction followed to all of the offers I applied for?
2. If the service they are offering is for payment, would it not be fair for them to follow, who are people offering the apartments on their site? For such sites as 'Marktplaats' it is forgivable, everyone is able to sell their products in a way that they like. If they are asking for payment, according to their policy - twice, then a client of theirs accordingly have higher expectations.

Lesson learned: if you don't want to pay 3 times then it is better for you to register on the websites that cooperates with actual owners instead of other websites and donate the money for those that offer the same service for free.

As an expat it is hard to find…

As an expat it is hard to find affordable housing without getting ripped off. On huizenmarkt.nl it seems locals list their house so you can bypass the brokers(who didn't seem to do much anyway). The site is in dutch so for those of us who aren't fluent in dutch this is a bit of hassle. Be prepared to sent a detailed message to landlords introducing yourself and hope for the best. It took me 2 months to find a good place in Amsterdam. I'm glad to say I found a 'gezellig' huis.

Finding housing as an expat in…

Finding housing as an expat in Amsterdam is difficult with agents and landlords overcharging you. Huizenmarkt.nl seems more targetted to the locals but if you can manage to navigate the website(fully in Dutch) it's possible to find some decent houses for non-inflated prices, although housing in Amsterdam still is quite expensive.

Sent around 35 to 40 reactions and one week later no one answered me.
Tried to get in touch with the website as I found it a bit weird, no responses as well.
So... apparently they're gonna get your 20 Euros and spend it while no one answers you.

Reply from Huizenmarkt

Hi Rafael,

Thanks for your review.

Sorry to hear you had such a negative experience. I see you wrote our support yesterday and we did not have a chance to get back to you yet, sorry about that most of our staff doesn't work weekends.

I see you signed up for a Premium account very recently on the 25th so don't be too worried if you haven't gotten any replies yet as often times landlords take while to reply to messages. I also noticed you changed your email adress used for logging in, possibly you received or will recieve reactions on your other email adres.

We try to get all landlords to respond to requests from houseseekers but sometimes (in the popular cities) it can happen that a broker does not reply to all those that respond and only to those he wants to invite for a viewing. We understand not getting any message (even if not positive) is very frustrating thus we try to get all landlords to respond.

I hope you will receive some replies from landlords ( possibly after the weekend).
If you have any questions please contact us at support@huizenmarkt.nl and we'll answer you question as soon as possible within 24 hours during weekdays.

best regards,
Huizenmarkt.nl Support

Beware of Huizenmarkt.nl

Just a note to all out there who might be tempted to apply for the Premium arrangement with Huizenmarkt.nl.
First of all, the site does not really provide you with any real benefit, as much of the information you will find in it, can also be found in other free sites.
Additionally, once you opt for the Premium site, which is usually against a payment of €19.95, you can only really cancel this with 1 month's notice. Their disclaimer on this is not really clear, especially if you are not fluent in Dutch. Thus, you will usually end up unwittingly paying for at least 2 months of Premium subscription. Failure to pay will result in them sending your case to a debt collector agency.
