Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 135 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Consumers frequently struggle with deeply unhelpful customer service representatives and extremely long telephone waiting times when attempting to successfully resolve urgent financial problems. Many people also experience several major daily frustrations regarding unexpected account freezes, complex payment processing errors, and ongoing difficulties safely accessing their money. Some reviewers were happy with helpful branch staff who genuinely tried to assist them and certain promotional cash bonuses received on their accounts. A few customers specifically noted that friendly local branch employees attempted to provide good support despite dealing with broader organizational challenges.

Terrible customer service department

Awful customer service department! When I contacted the department to report unauthorized withdrawals from my checking account and requested assistance in stopping them, I was informed that nothing could be done for 45 days. I expressed my concern about further unauthorized withdrawals, but the
representative showed no empathy and simply reiterated the 45-day waiting period. This response was unacceptable given the urgency and seriousness of the situation! Given the large number of complaints here and other places, you would assume Huntington would respond to their customer base about addressing this problem!

Grieving Widow

Over 30 years ago, a young couple living near a Huntington bank in Ohio opened an account. Fast forward to 2025, the couple has lived out of Ohio for over 11 years, maintaining both checking and savings accounts (joint) with Huntington through online banking. One spouse died. I was instructed to fly to the nearest branch out of state with the proper papers and ID to update the account. Maybe it's just me, but does this seem strange? After several calls to customer service, who could not help, and waiting for over 40 minutes on hold, I was told to contact their headquarters in Columbus, Ohio, and "maybe" they would have a way to handle this. It's incomprehensible that they don't even know in 2025 what the proper course of action is for the death of a joint account holder other than coming into a branch. We live across the US from Ohio, and I am a senior and a new widow trying to handle all this. At this point, I am beyond angry. It seems there's no customer loyalty on their part. It is a shame that they make this difficult at a time of grief. If I could rate them -100, I would.

I feel cheated

If possible, I would give this branch a 0-star rating. I opened an Asterisk-Free Checking Account back in December 2024. At that time, there was a $300 bonus offer for opening such an account. While opening it, I clearly told the officer that I wanted the promotional account. He nodded and said "okay," then proceeded to open the account.

After fulfilling all the terms and conditions for more than six months, I still didn’t receive any bonus. I called customer service, and they suggested I visit the branch and ask for the promo code. I went to the branch, but they told me there was no offer for the Asterisk-Free Checking Account. I replied that although there is no offer now, there was one when I opened the account.

They then said it was my responsibility to bring the promo code at the time of account opening. I explained that I specifically asked for the promotional account, and the officer should have informed me that a promo code was required—so I could have gone back and brought it. Instead, he opened a regular account without mentioning anything.

I’ve maintained this account for seven months and met all the terms and conditions. I don’t regret missing out on the $300, but I do feel cheated by the way I was treated.

I was fine until I lost my card

I was fine until I lost my card. Huntington has this stupid policy of having to go to a huntington bank location to withdraw money. No virtual card to put in you virtual wallet until you're able to get your new card which takes 3-5 days!

This is the worst bank I have ever…

This is the worst bank I have ever used. There was a fraud attempt on one of my three accounts, which the bank blocked. However, they also blocked my access to all of my accounts. And did not issue payments from my Bill Pay to payees, which I have been routinely paying for years. As a result, my credit rating, which is over 800, will be affected. When working with the bank to regain access to my accounts, I found their personnel to be obstructive and uncooperative, providing little support during a time of need, which was incredibly frustrating. As a result, I closed 2 of my three accounts with Huntington. I was able to do that because my daughter, who is a co-owner of those accounts, lives in Ohio. I live in Florida and am the sole owner of the remaining account. Since I live in Florida, Huntington only has one branch in this state. I am unable to drive three hours and 38 minutes to close my last account with them and retrieve my deposited money. I hope everyone reading this review will not do business with Huntington Bank. You will be sorry if you do. Louis Cardamone

Closed our account without any warning

Closed our account without any warning, requested paperwork and constant chasing for communication for 6 whole weeks to then be told that I need to find another financial institution as they won't reopen an account. We are a business with staff to pay and now missed two payrolls because we have been passed to so many different people within the team, all who seemingly have no idea what's going on. Awful service.

I LOVE Huntington Bank

I LOVE Huntington Bank. I have been with them for about 15 years and have only had a few hitches that were resolved quickly. One of them involved a fraudulent charge against my debit card. I called and they told me to just relax and they would take it from there. The money that was attempted to be stolen was returned to my account within hours and I never heard about it again...they took care of everything. I will be a Huntington customer for life.

Depositing checks doesn't make sense at…

Depositing checks doesn't make sense at Huntington. If you deposit a check for a large amount, they will overdraw your account for the amount you deposited, leaving you in a strange limbo. Instead of just placing the check funds on hold, they withdraw them from your account and hope you have enough cash on hand in case of any eventualities. This is simply a terrible way to handle transactions.

Misleading and not customer friendly AT…

Misleading and not customer friendly AT ALL...I transferred a significant amount of money into Huntington and split it between a money market and checking. The checking account had an offer of $600 for opening a new account and depositing at least $25k into it. *I didn't get the $600 because I first transferred all the money into the Huntington money market and then transferred it from the money market to the checking. Even thought it was new money in brand new accounts, they didn't honor their offer! I even spoke with a supervisor who said they couldn't do anything.
Then when I went online transfer all my money out, I found out there's some strange hold on my account and that I won't be able to do anything to move my money out of Huntington (and close the accounts in light of their lack of decent customer service and deception) for 2-3 business days at least while they figure out why there's some strange hold on my account. Talk about adding insult to injury.
To be clear, the people I speak with are nice enough. The policies, misleading advertising and then holding my money are what are unacceptable to me.

What a catastrophe

What a catastrophe. Every year it is the same run around about paying the flood insurance on time. Bent my back over due to wanting to escrow the funds for flood insurance and they would make sure it gets paid on time. It never gets paid on time. I will never use this bank again and will soon be paying the loan off. I highly recommend that no one use this bank at all.

Account Closing Beware!

An account was closed. After removing all funds, I waited a week and called to confirm as directed. The agent on the phone confirmed that the account was closed. In fact, I requested a reversal of a $25 service fee from the last statement for a balance that slipped below the allowed amount. She said, "I can't address a fee on an account that is closed." A month later, on 4/12/25, I received a statement with a balance of $1.22. I have had many issues calling 1-800-480-2265 with agents who do not know what they are doing and are extremely unhelpful and rude. They asked if I had confirmation, to which I said yes, and then they requested the number. I never received written confirmation it was closed and didn't know I needed to have it. I thought a verbal confirmation with an agent over the phone was sufficient. The rude agent accused me of assuming the account was closed. My advice is to keep a journal of every call and every agent's name, as this bank is not professionally administered.

Huntington Bank has been a huge letdown…

Huntington Bank has been a huge letdown when it comes to business banking—specifically, depositing business checks at their ATMs. For months now, every single business check I’ve tried to deposit has been rejected, without explanation or resolution.

These aren’t obscure checks. They’re properly filled out, endorsed, and deposited during regular hours. Yet the ATM takes the check, thinks for a while, then spits it out with a vague error message and no actionable next steps.

As a business owner, my time is valuable. I shouldn’t have to waste it driving to a branch or standing in line like it’s two decades ago. And what’s worse—there’s no transparency, no updates, and no acknowledgment from Huntington that this is even an issue.

If you’re a small business looking for a reliable banking partner—look elsewhere. Huntington’s tech is broken, and their customer support doesn’t seem too interested in fixing it.

Signed up for a promo offer and was assigned a different account. When I tried to contact them through Twitter and Facebook, since they don't have any other way to contact them electronically, they just ignored my question after starting the conversation. I would NEVER use them for any banking needs.

loan process a joke

Customer for over 20 years. Bombarded with all kind of offers and finally decided to take one offer for a personal loan
Loan was APPROVED INMEDIATELY . However, due to a very poor communication with the bank loan representative the application was deemed as expired. I was asked to apply again????
Supervisor was "very sorry" about the experience and will use the feedback.
IT WAS SIMPLE... the solution was "your file will be reopened. When can you close your approved loan".
Manager should Know better!!!!
