Iris are an appalling company and I would not recommend them to anyone. I have both Readiris 17 for Mac and a DeskScan 5.
My DeskScan 5 arrived and would not work. Eventually Iris said that the version I had been sent had the wrong firmware installed (by them) and I needed to return it for them to issue a replacement. Why they were shipping products without the right firmware they did not say. I was asked to try updating the firmware using a PC, which I do not have, so travelled an hour and half to use my brother in laws to try that. It failed. I returned the device (to Belgium). All this was at my own expense. The new one arrived and did work. However, the capture button did not work. They then told me this did not work with a Mac. No mention at the time on their website or point of sale. The scans of books, I have now found, are so bad and low quality (to quote Zotero, makers of academic source software and PDF manager) that they cannot be used for OCR/text highlighting and editing. I have contacted Iris to ask how a DeskScan pdf that has failed to OCR the text properly can be reassessed by the app to recognise the text. They have since ignored all my emails.
The ReadIris copy I have used for some time and it is buggy. I have moved from different Macs over the years and sometimes needed to do a system restore. Each time I have been required to get a new software code to activate the software and the company refuses after 12 occasions. This is inspite of my asking for them to check that it is only ever installed on one system. This means I can now no longer use the software. This is inspite of the fact that the failure of their DeskScan software to work properly means I'd hoped to use ReadIris to OCR the text DeskScan failed on.
I can't begin to express the lax, disinterested, unapologetic responses of their team. Nor how slapdash and buggy their tech is. It feels like a hobby run out of someone's garage.

Works great and fairly easy to learn how to use.

The Iris is a great, fast scanner. I have used it extensively. The one thing that needs improvement is the text reader. It does it really fast but misreads "t's" and sometimes other letters that have to be carefully gone over and corrected. Otherwise, great scanner.

I bought a Readiris 17 Pro + IRIScan book 5 bundle. I am very satisfied, both have exellent functions which provides good quality results. The product manuals could have been more extensive with detailed step by step instructions. On the other hand Readiris support has been very quick and helpful which compensates for the manuals.

A perfect tool for converting paper maps to electronic (LocusMap) ones.

My IRISScan Desk5Pro is very easy to use: I started to scan books in very few minutes. The only suggestion I have is to include in the packaging a protection of the equipment when it is tranported, to avoid using the whole original packaging, which is sufficiently massive.

After purchasing the version 17 on my mac OS Ventura 13.1 It takes forever to have a scan initiate, and then it takes time before the first page is processed...at a very low dpi (100).
I actually thought it would be a better experience, faster and more pleasant. I am very dissappointed.

The scanner works great and very easy to use.

Fast, reliable, easy to use. 2 cons:
– multipdf option is not reliable. If one error, all the batch cannot open ;
– the margins on the scan are very unconvenient, far too large.

The software does not work properly when the computer has multiple screens and the default screen is different than the laptop screen. I have a 49’ widescreen with 2 more monitors above it. The laptop screen is left of all. When the default screen is the 49”, the software thinks the vertical window size should be the combined vertical size of both the 49” and the monitor above it. It opens a window that is way too large. Worse it will not let me change the vertical size, so I can fit it on one monitor. I had to make sure the default monitor was the laptop screen to get it to work. But even then the location and size of pop up window display of the scan can not be controlled. Makes the software look like junk and in 30 years in IT, I have never seen a problem like this. You need to write much better software. This is lazy software! The camera is good, match it with modern software not something that looks like it was written during early DOS days!

The scanner works effectively, but the instructions, particularly for book scanning, are almost useless. I had issues trying to scan a booklet; it kept cropping the lower third of the book cover (as well as some pages). The instructions didn't help me figure out how to change the autocrop setting. Finally, I was able to prevent any cropping, but this resulted in white space below the bottom of the page. In order to resolve this issue, I had to open the document in another program and crop the cover and several of the pages by hand.
There have been no problems (thus far) scanning documents on separate sheets of paper.

The IRIScan book 3 doesn't work. I have tried going at different speeds with all different settings available and it is still impossible to get a single readable page.

Ordering from Belgium in Australia? It sounded daunting. But in the end it was as easy, and quick, as having a shipment sent from another state in Australia. It's early days for me, but I got the hardware and software set up without trouble. I look forward now to being able to scan in and digitize books I need in my academic research work.

I bought the IRIScan Book 5 WiFi a couple if years ago. I used it twice when I bought it. Anyway a year or so later I went to use this again and it just scanned a one inch block of whatever I was trying to scan. Tried cleaning the screen and got to the point where I thought their support team could help me. They suggested a reset which I did but still no joy.
Anyway I was told that there was nothing that could be done as it was out of warranty. They said that if you don't use an item over time because it is not being used then some components could fail. Then he suggested buying another! The cheek of it! They obviously use cheap components to make these rather expensive bits of hardware. Stay clear and get a flat bed from Curry's... much better service.

I asked for an activation code for my Book scanner wifi5 and haven't gotten it yet! Terrible tech service from IRIS! Please: send an activation code and don't have me search through our links!
