I uploaded one single PDF to Issuu — nothing fancy, just testing their platform.
A few days later I received a $5,000 invoice for their “Teams” plan.
I never selected or confirmed any paid subscription. Luckily, VISA blocked the payment before it went through.
I’m not calling it fraud, but let’s say their upgrade process is… creatively automated.
No harm done, except for a sleepless night and a brand-new credit card.
Advice: if you ever try Issuu, double-check every button and every “free trial.”
You might be one click away from an unexpected executive-level plan.

The site is constantly down - despite paying many, many times more than last year for the service. As others have said, this is a total rip off now. The new owners need to fix this problem - there is NO WAY TO CONTACT CUSTOMER SERVICE when their site is down. Terrible.

If I could give this company less than one star I would .. about 10 days ago I was signing up for a small newsletter from Key West Florida and the next thing I knew they have been charging me $5,400 through PayPal. They have absolutely no way that you can speak to a human. This company is a total scam. I have reached out any way I can and nobody will respond. I have reported them to PayPal and I will be reporting them to the FBI. Do not use this company. There is no way that they want to deal with anybody. IT IS A SCAM, BE CAREFUL! This company is nothing but a scam. They charged me MORE than $2,500 without any prior notice and gave me no way to request a refund.
There is no customer support line, only automated AI replies. No humans!!

I canceled my subscription OVER a year ago and Issuu is still deducting fees from my account. It is impossible to reach anyone at the company to resolve the “issue.” I’ve sent numerous email messages with no replies. I am done.

Stay away! This company is a complete scam. They just raised my rate by more than $2,000 dollars without any previous notice, charged my card, and gave me no way whatsoever to cancel and get a refund. There is no customer service phone number, and the entire website and email customer service is done via AI. No humans on board! The plane has no captain! It is a steal machine. A complete scam. Do not buy or use anything related to this company!

ISSUU API stopped working 4 days ago. So far noboby at ISSUU seems to care. Their AI chatbot is the only way to contact them - and it doesn´t deliver any useful help.

I would have prefered to talk directly to ISSUU Customer Service - but customer service does not exist ...

I just received an email from Issuu informing me that our current Premium plan will be phased out and replaced with a new Unlimited plan. The email says the new plan is “30% cheaper than the current optimum plan” — which already sounded suspicious.

After checking my actual costs, the numbers are shocking:

My old Premium plan cost $336 per year.

The new Unlimited plan defaults to $188 per month (when billed annually), which equals $2,256 per year.

If billed monthly, it’s $269 per month.

That’s a price increase of over 600% — completely unacceptable. The wording in the email is also very misleading, as it compares annual pricing to monthly pricing while presenting it as a discount. Many users could easily overlook this and end up autorenewed at this absurd price.

We don’t need or want extra features — this feels like pure greed.
Watch out! I already see other people mentioning they got charged because they didn’t cancel in time.

Issuu have raised our sub from $480 to $2710 and drawn down the DD without notice. This is theft. I am now stuck in a circular robot chat which closes before it is resolved. Has anyone had any success in reaching a human being or a regulator to complain?

Automatically, and without approval, Issuu changed the product I was subscribed to and increased the fee from $500 to over $2500. And you can only deal with AI Bots for resolution.

This company allowed someone to upload a PDF of my 288 page, copyrighted book WITHOUT MY PERMISSION.
They have yet to take it down. This is ILLEGAL.
Be sure to check if you are an author. They are a scam.

I used to love ISSUU. I used it to create unpublished flipbooks for internal use with clients. Last year, I paid a reasonable fee, so imagine my shock when, this year, you suddenly withdrew nearly $4,000 from my bank account without a clear warning. That’s TEN TIMES what I paid last year!

ISSUU, you can say you sent a “policy change notice” by email, but I receive messages like that from all sorts of companies every week, and never, ever, has one of them resulted in a surprise $4,000 charge. That’s completely disrespectful.

The worst part? I’ve had to spend hours dealing with PayPal, my bank, and your customer service to request a refund. As any small business owner knows, PayPal and the banks don’t refund instantly, even when the request is filed. Meanwhile, my business is left with a gaping hole in our finances.

This happened during our off-season, a time when we desperately needed that money to cover ongoing operational costs. The stress this caused was enormous and entirely avoidable.

And now my flipbooks are blocked. I’m getting messages from clients who can’t access them (during our launch). Are you going to pay for the hours my employees are wasting responding to these questions? A simple refund is not enough. Everyone affected by this should be compensated for the damage caused. You should be offering more.

Please do better, ISSUU.

I signed up with issuu to gain access to a publication and it cost extra to get it and I wasn't ABLE to even make the purchase. Pure Scam!!!

This company is totally a scam, do not make anu purchase or even register your credit card on this scam service. It doesn't let you remove your card information and cancel the plan, even if you are enjoying a free trial it will try to bill you almost 2k dollars.
Stay extremely away from this website, I really don't know how this turned out to be so much popular while still being a complete scam.
It also has zero human customer service to help you with subscriptions and cancelling plans, all automatized and leaning to more billing and scams.

Should have zero stars. Used to love this platform until in November 2024 my pricing went from $31/month to $269/month for the same features. I contested this absurd price increase and said if it was non-negotiable I wanted out. They continued to charge me $269/mo WITHOUT MY PERMISSION and there was no way to cancel. I have looked high and low. No phone number - even the one provided to financial institutions is disconnected. No email for customer service. I had to cancel my credit card to make it stop and sadly I had serious health issues to contend with and had not noticed several months of charges from them. I now have to file a police report to get a refund. Am I pissed? Hell, yes. Would I ever use them again. NEVER. Do not use ISSUU.

Renewal and refund policy is horrible. They have designed a system that makes compliance with their terms nearly impossible.

Just received a bill from Issuu that is almost 5x what I have been paying with no warning. What a shock from a company I once trusted. This trust is now completely gone and I am scrambling trying to figure out how to preserve our content, get our money back, and find a trustworthy and affordable replacement. Issuu is a brand and service I had come to really appreciate and rely on as a publisher of a small quarterly community magazine. We have about 20 unlisted publications on the platform that range from 18-200+ pages. I have always found the platform really easy to use with a pleasing end product and would have been a loyal customer in perpetuity. What a bummer. They also said they sent out a notification but I either didn't receive, it went to my spam, or was buried in the overwhelming pile of email communications that come through my inbox as a nonprofit executive. This whole experience is unprecedented, unethical, bad business and just absurd.

Free trial scam, they will charge you even if you cancel your free trial the same day! AVOID!

I had a great experience reaching out to Issuu support to request a student discount for my architecture portfolio. Their team responded quickly and clearly outlined what they needed from me. Once I followed the steps, they verified my student status and granted access to the Starter plan. Issuu makes it easy to publish and share my digital portfolio professionally, and I appreciate that they support students this way. Highly recommend them to other students in creative fields!
