ISSUU's highly unethical business practices
ISSUU’s recent price increase reflects highly unethical business practices. In October, they sent us a 300-word email discussing plan changes, new features, and other updates. Buried within that email was a single sentence mentioning the price for the next billing cycle—a detail that seems deliberately easy to miss. To make matters worse, this email was their only communication regarding the price change, which amounted to a staggering increase of over 400% (from $64 to $269).
I’ve been a loyal ISSUU customer for over 10 years, and when I reached out to them about this issue, their response was deeply disappointing. They offered to refund only half of the amount—but only if I subscribed to a yearly plan. This approach is both unfair and unacceptable.
I’ve now started looking for another, more transparent provider.

We have raised a dispute with Paypal…
We have raised a dispute with Paypal for the unauthorised amount which was recently taken straight out of our bank account. It was about £2,100 when we had previously been paying just £18/month. This has thrown my small company and personal finances into a crisis and is utterly unacceptable. I have received no feedback from the company on our Paypal dispute as yet.

Issu - disgraceful x 10 price hike
On 2 December - Issuu renewed my annual membership at $2,259.00 - I have paid $240 for an annual membership for the last two years. There is absolutely no justification for increasing the prices by x 10.
There was a generic email reminding me about the renewal at end of November which talked about a change in packages but to increase the annual subscription by x 10 is frankly disgraceful.
The restructuring of the Issuu packages means that small indie businesses / publishers are effectively priced out of using Issuu. There is zero flexibility on their packages - you're either fully in at the new price of $2,259.00 a year or on the basic package which has a limit of 50 pages.
Customer service: In previous years the customer service was very responsive ensuring I signed up to subscribe etc but on the same day this extortionate price hike was debited from my business account - I've sent three emails and I've had ZERO response.
Browsing the 'help' section on the Issuu website it is very apparent that MANY clients have been caught out by this x 10 price hike - and no-one appears to be able to get a response from the Issuu customer service.
As advised on their FAQs on their website - I downgraded my plan to the Starter plan - the Issuu system tells me I will only be downloaded in one year i.e. Nov 29 2025.
I have only two small magazines currently on their system, 125 pages and 140 pages.
This sham-like price gouging with what appears to be little opportunity for refunds will put many small independent businesses such as mine in serious financial difficulty.

Deceptive price structure
I have been a user of Issuu since 2016 with the same plan. On November 2, 2024 I was sent a renewal email as usual explaining I will be charged on Dec 2. The email mentioned my current premium annual plan, and to "sit back, relax and enjoy another great year of Issuu Premium". On Dec 2, I was charged almost 4x more without any explanation for "Unlimited Annual". I was told via AI that there was a pricing restructure in October, even though I was sent an email in November with my current status. There was no explanation of the new structure, just instructions to get a refund. Their lack of customer service is bad business, but not being informed of the change unless I noticed the billing hike was a scam.

Very frustrating change to pricing and poor customer service
As other users have noted, Issuu recently changed their pricing and subscription tiers. This meant that as a previously happy Premium user paying $76.80 a month (already a considerable investment for occasional business use, we were forced on to the new 'Unlimited' subscription tier and our monthly charges have increased to $322.80(!). There was zero notification and the company did not seek approval from us for this.
Having flagged this to their customer support I have received several incoherent emails from an AI chat agent. The website's support section is confusing and seems intentionally poorly designed to reduce complaints.
In the meantime, we've been forced to stay on the Unlimited tier for the whole of December, despite processing a downgrade on the 3rd December.
Really disappointed with this shady behaviour. I'll be disputing the charge and would encourage others to do the same. Looks like it's time to seek out an alternative content hosting solution.
Update: Updating from 1 to 3 as the Issuu team have now issued a refund which is much appreciated.

Unacceptable Price Hike and Poor Customer Flexibility
I have been a loyal user of Issuu.com for creating PDF flipbooks, and my experience has been satisfactory until recently. Previously, I paid $64 for the service, which was reasonable for the features provided. However, I was shocked to receive an email informing me that my membership plan would automatically switch to a new Unlimited plan costing $269 per month starting November 4, 2024.
This is an exorbitant price increase that is not justified by the new features offered. While I understand that companies evolve and improve their services, a jump from $64 to $269 is unreasonable and burdensome for users like myself who have invested time and resources into creating and managing our flipbooks on your platform.
Moreover, once all our PDF flipbooks are uploaded, it becomes extremely difficult to migrate away from Issuu.com. This lack of flexibility feels restrictive and traps users into an unfavorable situation.
I am disappointed with how this transition has been handled. The changes seem abrupt and do not consider the long-term commitment and trust that customers have placed in Issuu. I strongly urge Issuu.com to reconsider this drastic price increase and provide options for existing customers to retain their original pricing plans. It would demonstrate a genuine commitment to customer satisfaction and loyalty.
Until these issues are addressed, I cannot recommend Issuu.com to others and am seriously considering alternative platforms for my PDF flipbook needs.

SHADY ! Unauthorized upcharged over $2k
SHADY! Without warning and authorization ISSUU changed my plan and charged me an annual subscription of over $2,200 ! And this isn't the first time. Really shady behaviour, and hurtful to my small business.

Unauthorized Account UPGRADE
I have been a loyal Issuu customer for 15 years, paying every month without fail. In September 2024, I explicitly informed Issuu that I did not want to upgrade my plan. Despite this, they unilaterally upgraded my account in November, without my consent and charged me $286.75 —nearly 5 times my agreed-upon plan cost of $64.39 per month.
To make matters worse, I contacted Issuu immediately, yet after 25+ emails, I have only received generic, preformatted responses. No real person has addressed my situation or processed the refund I am rightfully owed.

Be forewarned about allowing issuu to make automatic payments. I was contacted by my bank that stopped my credit card based on what they called suspicious activity from issuu. My annual charge went from $542.40 to over $2200 without any authorization from me; they automatically bumped up my subscription without my approval. I had one correspondence back from issuu saying this is what they do and claimed I received a notice that they were doing this. I searched everywhere for that notice and couldn't find it. To just make that change without my authorization my bank felt was fraudulent, cancelled my credit card and sent me a new one. There you go, you have been warned about how cavalier they treat your expenses and their responsibility with your card info.

Issuu automatically upgraded my account, charging me 4x our typical yearly payment. I did not agree to this upgrade. Then, when I tried to contact customer service about it they would not respond. I am a small business owner and this payment hit my account hard. I don't know if I'll end up getting a refund (since they won't respond), but I will not be using Issuu moving forward, that's for sure.

Quadrupled subscription costs with no communication
Issuu decided to quadruple their subscription fees without any prior notification of doing so. Upon telling the customer service team, they tried to defend it by saying that they sent an email detailing the upgrade, which they didn't, trying to offer a 50% discount on the plan in the process (still double the amount we paid the previous year). Upon cancelling this, detailing our disappointment after being a customer with the platform for years, no apology was issued, instead a generic cancellation email. Poor service and practice, find another company for your online publications.
