IU Internationale Hochschule - Fernstudium Reviews 

Can see quite a few initiatives, improvements, and new features lately.

This is a joke!!! After more than 18 months in distance learning, I would like to give 0 stars.
The scripts are sometimes SIMPLY WRONG (I know this from practice and years of job experience), the corrections sometimes take 3 months, and the quality of the materials provided is simply inferior!

And for that I pay 312€/month.

If I could, I would just transfer to another university - here you don't learn much and still have to be careful not to acquire the wrong information.

A JOKE and a WASTE OF MONEY!

Das ist ein Witz!! Nach über 18 Monaten im Fernstudium würde ich gerne 0 Sterne geben.
Die Skripte sind teilweise EINFACH FALSCH (das weiß ich aus der Praxis und jahrelanger Joberfahrung), die Korrekturen dauern teilweise 3 Monate, und die Qualität der zur Verfügung gestellten Materialien ist einfach minderwertig!

Und dafür zahle ich 312€/Monat.

Könnte ich, würde ich einfach an eine andere Uni transferieren - hier lernt man nicht viel und muss noch aufpassen, dass man sich keine falschen Informationen aneignet.

Ein WITZ und eine komplette ABZOCKE.

Scam-Company. I asked online for information. Then I got a call saying that the information has been sent or will be sent; so obviously they do not have a clear process for this. By now I have not got any email after the initial email confirmation.
Then I asked who the professors are for the requested study. They said they do not know. I asked again if they could provide me this information since this is one of the most important informations for choosing a study. The answer was literally: "They would explain it one last time again friendly that they do not know the professors" ("ich erklärs nochmals freundlich"). Who needs a menace in the first call? Since they constantly interrupted me when I was talking, I terminated the call.

Edit 19.6.2024// Worse than that, later I booked a free test month and cancelled it. I never heard from iu again. Now, many monthes later I get a letter from a bad debt collection company claiming costs and fees of 1580€ though I cancelled the free test and NEVER got a bill from them!
BEWARE of IU - very bad business model!

At the beginning I thought it was brilliant and really the perfect study model offering flexibility and a great education. Sadly, my experience has changed and I've realised that where there was an opportunity for this to be a modern and forward-thinking university, unfortunately it is very much entrenched in the old-school German system and provides very little value for money.

Here are a few red-flags:
- Not a single course (that I have so far taken and I am in second year) offers video tutorials or live teaching. You get a course book from which to learn things like advanced mathematics/statistics/python etc. These are subjects that need teaching, and although you can google them, it is confusing and frustrating especially when you are paying so much. And a 30 min Q&A with the tutor every 2 weeks doesn't even begin to cover it.

- There are very few materials. For example, many courses do not offer past exam papers to help you get used to the style of question or to practise your timings. There are very few practise questions and where they do exist they do not come with solutions so you can see what you did wrong. These are basics for a paid university course, and the fees are not cheap!

- In the German system the professor has the final word. This means they write the exam and there is no external moderator to keep it comparable to other courses in the country or of a similar level, eg. first year level. You can find yourself writing one of the most difficult maths exams in the country and maybe even failing it, and there is no external body to check that what your professor has set is fair. I have also had cases where I had the right answer in the exam but because I used a different method, the question was still marked as wrong. As a result some of my grades are very low but not a reflection on what I actually knew and worked for.

- Similarly, if the pass rate for that class is ridiculously low, this is not (as is the case in the UK) seen as a reflection of poor or sub-standard teaching. The professor has the final word, not you the person paying their wages. This lack of responsibility on the professor to impart a decent education, means you can be in a class with a pass rate of 15%, no videos or online tutorials, and you are so far into the course and paid so much that you have no way out.

- A big red flag for me is that IU are very reluctant to share course pass rates. If they were proud of how well their students were doing, surely this is something they would happily share?

- The IU seems to be terrible at replying to email or following up on any concerns. At the beginning they are quick and really pleasant to deal with but once you are in they don't care so much. At some point I began to wonder if the whole thing is a scam.

If I could go back in time, I would tell myself to stay away. Maybe somewhere else you have to pay more, or maybe you have a slightly stricter schedule, but at IU I have wasted a lot of time and money, and from everyone else I have spoken to on the course their experience has been similar.

I was a student at the IUBH distance learning but unfortunately it is very difficult to get support and settle down problems and issues there are only question and answer live sessions (no online lectures) plus the sessions are not recorded which is not useful for working students
Furthermore it takes alot of time to get an email reply from students office and as well as IT help desk
Unfortunately i had to withdraw from the study contract
This university can do much better
