Really rude staff

Arrived here today mid morning - what rude staff in the restaurant. We were refused coffee told that ALL the tables vacant (and there were many) were reserved - no signs saying reserved mind you. The lady with the dark long hair think she’s named Tracey has a real chip on her shoulder and told us we “had” to go down to the farm shop to get served even said she had been down there and told him he had to serve us. Their loss as the whole coach load got the brunt of her attitude and we didn’t bother with the myseum either. Staff in the farm shop and gift shop very polite and agreed with us. Her attitude has cost you Jamaica Inn I would get rid of her. Staff were standing round could easily have done a few coffees for thise that wanted them. All becsuse she got out of bed the wrong side ! Poor show I was looking forward to the myseum having not been for years. There were only 23 of us on the coach do that could easily have been 4/5 car loads anyway . She may have lost her employer £250 do well done her as we all virtually walked straight out !!

What to say about our stay

From the start of our 4 night stay, the staff were wonderful, the food was absolutely delicious & our room was perfect. Honestly cannot fault the place. We have stayed once before & will definitely be staying again. Ann on reception was so helpful & welcoming, Bridie was a wonderful hostess who was so polite and accommodating. Thank you to all at Jamaica Inn for making our break away so wonderful.

Sunday lunch was an awful experience

We had Sunday lunch today and it was an awful experience.

We had previously stayed at the hotel and had a great time, so thought we would enjoy lunch there, but we were really shocked and let down.

We both ordered the two meat roast, beef and lamb, and the lamb was disgusting, fat and gristle and barely any meat. The vegetables were warm and Yorkshire puddings dry and brittle. We were also unable to order a hot drink.

I asked for a refund, as I didn't want my meal replaced, and was given one. However, because my husband had eaten the beef on his plate didn't receive a refund.

The staff member wasn't rude but equally wasn't too concerned that the food was inedible, or that we had had a poor experience.

Other tables had left their food and gone.

What a shame that this was such an awful experience.

Amazing place, ruined by staff!!

Great place to go and visit and look around, amazing history. However, we stopped for breakfast en route to Cornwall the service is dreadful staff are beyond rude and unhelpful with simple requests, terrible attitudes. Waited a while but the food is quite nice. Staff in the gift and farm shops were really lovely and helpful. Overall, well worth a visit but don’t bother with eating here.

The Horror Experience Of The Jamaica Inn

All that is missing at The Jamaica Inn was Basil Fawlty ; horror experience! We turned up after a very long journey only to be told we could not check in due to staffing problems .left until almost 7pm with no room!! we were told to go away and come back in an hour . we paid £200 for a room that had towels that were not even cleaned which was evident by the smell. not one member of staff could correctly take an order without getting it wrong. we specifically wanted to enjoy a steak supper that we pre booked only to be told they were out of steak , so no steak was available for the guests that had paid for a room. went outside to calm down only to discover a stray cat lapping at the plates of the customers left overs that had piled up on the tables . " Serious Hygiene issue " . was this The Jamaica Inn ? more like Fawlty Towers ! absolutely shocking . the bar staff tried to short change me out of a tenner but that was not the highlight of the Jamaica Inn . whilst we were ordering are food another guest came down to complain about using the toilet in his room without any Toilet Paper. He could not even find a member of staff to want to help him. Please avoid this place . Its a Shambolically run business .

Not worth the stop

Overpriced pubgub. Food was underwhelming, and lukewarm. The service was slow and once seated no-one even made eye contact. No checkback by staff to ensure satisfaction with the food. Customer service is clearly not a priority. We even left the restaurant without as much as a goodbye. We will definitely not be back.

Staying one night

Staying one night and the room was not ready. We were offered free drinks as a way of saying sorry. The room is lovely and a touch of class from the housekeeper by leaving a handwritten note.

Nice enough place VERY disappointing Sunday roast

Went for Sunday lunch as my sister who was visiting hadn’t been to Jamaica Inn before but had always wanted to visit since reading the novel.

Jamaica Inn itself pleasant enough sat where it is in the middle of nowhere. Unfortunately the Sunday dinner experience fell far short. I had ONE slice of beef & two out of three of my roast potatoes weren’t cooked through & my knife had to be forced through the potato. I will say the beef was well cooked & very tasty. My sister enjoyed her THREE slices of beef!

At the end of the day I do not believe my meal was worth almost £20 & I won’t be returning with visiting friends & family in the future

Very disappointing, we won't trouble them again.

My wife has wanted to visit for some time so we booked for lunch. Long story short, it was a very disappointing experience.

Vegetables were cold but my meal had been under a heat lamp and was all dried out. We were in a draught and were unable to take our coats off. We were obliged to pay for food and drink as we ordered rather than having a tab.

There were plenty of staff but few actually serving.

I emailed the manager and the head office with my observations but no one has bothered to reply. We will not only not visit Jamaica Inn again but we won't trouble any other hotels in the group either.

Very, very disappointing.

Subsequent to this review the manager has been in touch and we arranged to revisit. My wife and I had an excellent, complimentary, lunch. The outer door has been fitted with a very efficient closer mechanism. We strongly recommend a visit to the shops and interesting museum.

Very good experience, thank you

Great day visiting the Inn and museum

Great day visiting the Inn and museum. I'm a huge Daphne du Maurier fan hence he trip. Enjoyed a long stay in the bookshop and then a lovely meal and coffee. Food was very nice, service was good and I enjoyed my time there. Will visit again when next that way.

Jamaica Inn, Don't believe the hype

Was really looking forward to visiting after hearing so much about the place. I have to say I was disappointed. My drink had to be sent back due to looking like dishwater and the sandwich I ordered was over priced.

Great meal for awkward customers!

We had been before, but this time there was a new menu. The quality, choice and service was very good.
We were a very awkward party, with two of us unable to eat gluten, one dairy free, the other yeast, rice, meat and almond free, yet the team at Jamaica Inn checked with the chef and we all had a beautifully presented meal! The portions were generous and tasty and perfectly cooked!
The serving staff were so helpful and the ambiance very smugglerish!
Stop here on your way to Bodmin, we think you will be pleasantly surprised.

We booked this for New Year’s Day lunch…

We booked this for New Year’s Day lunch for party of 6. When we arrived there were hundreds of people, cars everywhere difficult to park. When we booked before Christmas we was not told that every New Year’s Day The Brown Willy run takes place . Although shoes had to be left outside the toilets and entrance were very muddy. We ordered the roast dinners, which when arrived the waitress had to take them to a window to see what meat was on the plate. Everything apart from a few vegetables served separately were dumped on the plate drowning in gravy no presentation . As these meals have to be ordered and paid for at the bar, there didn’t seem much point in complaining. Had we have been presented with a bill after the meal we certainly would have challenged payment. Had we been made aware at the time of booking about the event being held we would have chose another day. Also gravy should be served separately not everyone likes their food swimming in it
A very disappointing start to the New Year

Terrible Lunch for 6

Lunch for 6. Very busy 2 ordered ham egg and chips. Both arrived with rock hard eggs and funny red coloured fatty sweaty ham. As took so long eat the chips and part of eggs. Complained and argument about quality and resolution. Spent over £120 and eventually got £14 back for two awful meals. Not good customer service.

The Inn with rustic charm

We stopped in on the way to our Cornwall destination. We ordered 2 meals and 2 drinks on a thursday evening around 6.30pm. The barman was new, and still learning so whilst amiable enough, we did have to prompt him a little through the ordering process as he looked a little flustered, but nothing of any great concern - no-one is knowledgeable about everything instantly. The food arrived promptly, was hot and suitably tasty, and reasonably priced with about right portions etc (i'm quite hungry person, so would've liked a few more chips!) The staff were friendly. The inn has lots of character, complete with mannequins and a distinct rustic charm, although we had more driving to do, so we couldn't stay longer, in other circumstances we certainly would've stayed for longer. A good spot to stop for a meal to break up the journey.
