Unprofessional

Unprofessional, rude, and sold me a dangerous, unroadworthy car.
I recently purchased a vehicle from J&I Car Sales Limited, and it has been an absolute nightmare from start to finish. Like most places, they were as nice as can be when they were trying to sell me the car. But the second I actually bought it, that's when the trouble started.
The vehicle they sold me was not even road legal. Immediately after taking possession of it, I had to completely replace the entire front-end suspension—the whole lot. On top of that, the gearbox has completely failed.
When I reached out to J&I to get these major issues sorted, their attitude completely flipped. They refused to help or take responsibility. They are incredibly rude, unprofessional, and offer zero customer support. Because of their absolute refusal to resolve the problem, I have been forced to terminate the agreement on the car.
I am now in the process of seeking formal legal advice from my solicitor and will be taking them to court. Avoid this dealership at all costs. They sell unsafe vehicles and have terrible customer service.

They don't like the word no.

I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt after reading some reviews but, how right they were. Pushy isn't the word. Whatever you do, don't start talking to them when they approach you as they'll not leave you alone and before you know it, they're leading you into the office to buy a car without even seeing the extra charges including the £149.99 admin fee! No joke. If you leave, they'll bombard you with calls and emails until you get fed up and call them to ask them to stop calling. Then comes the passive aggressive patter. I wouldn't buy a car from there now if they knocked 90% off. I'm sure there are plenty of happy customers or they wouldn't have been in business this long but, they don't like the word no.

J&I sold us a £12,000 death trap—and…

J&I sold us a £12,000 death trap—and then blamed us for it.

If you value safety, honesty, or basic decency, avoid J&I like your life depends on it—because in our case, it nearly did.

My partner, a trainee nurse and mum of three young children (aged 8, 5, and 3), bought a Grandland X (REG: YH18 WCZ) from J&I. Her only requirements? Safety, space for the kids and their gear, and reliability to get to placement. What she got was a dangerous, unreliable wreck.

We made it to the end of the road before the engine light came on. Took it straight back. They ran diagnostics and claimed “no fault.” Wrong. Then the central locking failed. Sent to an auto electrician—supposedly covered by J&I. Nothing was fixed. Couldn’t even leave items in the car overnight.

Then it wouldn’t start. They blamed the internal light being left on. Turns out the light turned itself on and off due to an electrical fault. She missed placement. They offered a courtesy car. It overheated to 130°C and started smoking on the A38. They asked us to drive it back. We refused. They asked us to recover it—still no replacement offered.

We got our own mechanic. Faulty battery. Jump-starting didn’t work. J&I denied everything and tried to make us pay for recovery. Then came the mansplaining: “The battery was just unplugged.” False. The car barely ran. Rejection refused. Third-party diagnostics confirmed it was completely unsafe.

J&I still argued the car wasn’t faulty. Either they believe their own lies or they’re legally and morally bankrupt. Possibly both. If you’ve had the underwhelming pleasure of dealing with them, you’ll understand the need for a shower after any interaction.

Avoid the Grandland X, REG: YH18 WCZ. Avoid J&I full stop.

Go to Motor City instead. They’re everything J&I isn’t: respectful, honest, and safe.

Bottom line: J&I put a nurse and three children at risk. Repeatedly. If you care about your family’s safety, leave J&I in the 1950s where they belong. Nobody needs a BTEC Del Boy when buying a car.

1 star is even too much!

1 star is even too much!

Do not under any circumstances get drawn in by these people! You will think these types of reviews are wrong when they 'sell' to you but once you have departed with your money, they are friendly no more.

Our car from them was nothing but trouble and dangerous. They try to refuse to fix it even with a warranty, but stand your ground. But, tbh you may as well not let them bother as they will tell you they have fixed it but it will most likely come back in a worse state with warning codes deleted!

Luckily, we had finance as they had to answer to them and not just us. Our car had an independent investigation in the end, the report came back that this car was dangerous at point of sale.

Finally, after months of 70+ calls, which of course they would never return any of, this car went back with only a comment of, no hard feelings!

Beware, this car is back on the forecourt! Hopefully you won't choose it!

Good luck if you do choose to buy from them. Any issues, as within your rights, get it sent back within the first 30 days, before they are able to refuse.
